How you got your 360 stories

Sirfragalot

CAGiversary!
I wanted to see if someone had amazing stories about getting their 360. My is really amazing (not braging) but I was told that a Circuit City was getting a "shipment". It turned out they where only getting a normal shipment of stuff. Disshearted I got online and looked at the location finder and I was going to call down the line. The first place was an Iris concept store. After getting a hold of the manager I said for the 32 time do you have any 360s I almost hung up then I heared "Yah, we do." Then my spirts a little lifted I asked, "A core right."
The gentelman the said, "No."
"WHAT HOLD IT HOLD IT PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!"
"Ok, I'll hold it."
I arived seeing it on the counter, I was esstactic. I made my buy then the gentelman said, " You know right after I got off the phone with you a guy came in asked, 'do you have any 360s'?" I was shocked, I was greatfull, but most of all I was reasured, " Even after everything, I think people that are really good at heart." This was in December. So post your stories.

I was having a totally bad day, and to make things worse my computer froze while I was doing some homework that I hadn't saved. My temper got the best of me and I slammed down my mouse, and to make things even worse, it broke.

It was around 9 PM and my assignment was due the next day so I headed off to Wal-Mart to get a new mouse.

I go to the electronics section and I see a white Xbox 360 box, and since I hadn't been paying all that much attention to specifics, I asked the guy if it was the "$400 or $300 360." Of course it was the Premium 360 and the guy went on to tell me that it was a cancelled lay-away, and I notified him that I'd be taking it.

As you can imagine, that completely turned my day around (this happened January 24th, I believe).

I got a preorder at EB Games, strolled in around 5 PM on release day, picked it up and went home.

Preorder early and often....it avoids the need for crazy stories.

TBW

PS When all of the stores start taking preorders for the Revo and PS3 right after E3, if you might even consider getting one, get on the list now. It will save you a ton of trouble later on.

Got mine in February. Waited until the initial surge was over. The first time I went in store to get one I succeeded. I went into a Best Buy at opening and ask if they had any 360s. They had just come in that morning and I had to wait a couple of minutes for them to pull them off the truck. I guess it was meant to be.

I'm not proud of what I did. A man will do anything for his crack...:D

Seriously though, I got mine through an inside contact. One of the perks for working in retail for so long.

Didn't really want/need one at launch. During a Meijer 15% off general merchandise sale near the end of January, picked up a core for about $250, with the HD and component cables discounted as well. Bought several games since it was B1G1 for half off, PLUS the 15%. Sold half the games, made back more than any difference than if I had bought the premium system.

And now I'm sending it back for repairs.

Fin.

I was checking out my local TRU for the cheap clearanced Mechassault Live Kits. As I was walking out, I glanced out the corner of my eye and noticed the Prem. bundle behind the glass.

Not having the money on me, I leave and come back an hour later. I double check to make sure they actually have it, instead of just having the ticket. They do and I buy it. The cashier then tells me that they've had two of them for four days (this is wednesday), just no one comes and checks. So after going home and setting it up, I go back for the other one for my younger brother.

A buddy of mine still lives at home (he has weird Psycho-esque parents, especially his mom, go figure) has a huge spending problem. He is constantly running his bank account down (he doesn't have a credit card), and always has to sell stuff to get the numbers back up before his parents see the statement. Well, he had broken one of my guitars ealier (tried to flip it around his head without strap-locks) and ended up chipping the paint. It would have been cool, but he said he didn't have the money to fix it. For the longest time, I never thought I'd be able to get it back from him until he called one day saying he was screwed because he had over drawn his account 8 times (20 dollar free per overdraw) and needed $500 that day to get the account back before his parents saw. I knew he had gotten not only a 360 premium system, but also a 27" widescreen HDTV for Christmas. I offered him $500, my old xbox, and a 27" non-flat screen tv for his tv and 360. He happily accepted. Woot! This was about a month ago.

waited outside of best buy for 8 hours on launch day, they were only giving out 75 360's i was number 76. midnight came by and they screwed over 30 people by forcing them to get Core's and one guy gave me his Core ticket, so i got one :)

It was lunch time, I was hungry, so I made myself a PB&J sandwich. One of my friends told me about the hex168 contest and how to enter so it popped into my head when I was making the PB&J sandwich. I decided my PB&J sandwich would be my entry. I drew the hex168 symbol in jelly on the sandwich, took a photo, won the contest, got my 360 6 days prior to launch, and the rest is just one big blur of drinking lots of Heinekens at Zero Hour.

I downloaded a store locater back in January and got a Premium from Best Buy the next day. Had to cancel my class to pick one up before they sold out. :)

Found another Premium three days later while walking through Walmart and bought it for a friend. (Well, after he begged me to do it, since his bank was closed by that time...)

Preordered the day after it was announced at E3. Picked it up at 8am on Nov. 22nd. No line, no waiting, no hassle.

Manager at EB told me they were getting a shipment in the next day about 2 weeks ago. Walked in the next day, waited for shipment to arrive, walked out with a 360.

Went to Best Buy a few days after Christmas looking to pick up Midnight Club 3 for Xbox which was on sale that week. Then I see one of the workers prancing around with the box since they just got a shipment in. I thought, "What the hell," and I picked it up.

The guys got a kick out of me though. I asked if I could leave it at the security station at the front and I'd pull my car around fearing I'd get mugged for the system (they didn't put it in a bag--it wasn't a bad neighborhood, but I didn't want to take the chance considering the demand for it and it was late at night). So I pulled my car around and quickly placed it in the trunk and drove away.

I'm getting one next week. I will be getting mine by selling off some of my collection and cashing in all of my spare change. I had about $200 in change stuffed in jars.

I bought a couple of mountain dews and put those "code" things in that fancy "website" they had and they sent me this box .

I put a preorder in. I walked into the store and picked up my system...

...Well, that's what would've happened, if I wanted a launch 360. :p

I stood at my window and waited for the UPS man to show up the saturday morning before launch day to bring me my free system from Mountain Dew. It was a very rough morning!

Rewind back to the very first day of the Mountain Dew contest and I won that evening. All the lids i entered (about 100) were from co-workers and prolly half were from the free code email glitch someone here discovered. :D

mine is not amazing at all.

TRU was doing bundle pre-sales. only 8. one set was for around $600+ and the other for $700+. they weren't selling too well at the time after the 4th one, so I bought one of the $600+ ones.

come launch day I worked an 8 1/2 hour shift, then picked up my system.

Logged onto CAG forums, saw Zero Hour contest from microsoft, entered, won, and me and my friend kicked back, watched wrestling and movies, played games, relaxed and enjoyed our stay in the mojave desert as our 360s arrived 11pm nov 21st. luckyyy.

Same here. I saw the contest on here entered then when I was at work I got an email saying I won. So I skipped school and work and drove down to CA with my dad. Played games, enjoyed the other activities that were going on and got my xbox on the 21st then drove home and played it as soon as I got back. A great experience I'll never forget.

i walked into toys r us and the sexy blonde lady in the tight toys r us uniform wasy eyeing me from behinde the Electronics Checkout. I took this oppurtunity to walk over and ask if we had met before... she said she didnt think so, but that i looked familiar, and maybe we could go out after her shift ends in 15 minutes. I told her that could maybe work out, seeing how she had what i wanted and i had what she wanted. I told her i was interested in the 360, and by this time she was deep into a passionate stare, and assumed the 360 was some sort of a sex move... She leaped from behinde the counter tackling me to the ground, my head landing just short of a premium white box... She was ripping my cloths off like a savage when i turned my head and locked eyes on the xbox. I had to push her off like a wild animal, and grab the box and run.. how i made it out alive i have no idea.... whew.. got a free 360 though!

I preordered at EB, paid in full with 13 games. I went to the midnight launch. They had a state cop there with a list of people who were going to get on launch day (only 20 people though there were around 40 people there). When he asked for my last name...he couldn't find it. He eventually found it and at 12:20 am had my 360 and was out the door...only to be greeted by one of the local news channels asking me questions about the 360 as I was trying to get to my car.

Hehe...amusing story.

OP's story was pretty underwhelming and not amazing at all... lol...

Just like my unamazing story of getting it at zero hour. It was just like a bigger best buy line, except for line waiting I just played 360 all night.

Hell if you're gonna claim your story is amazing, somone better have been killed, shot, maimed, or severely damaged =p

Guy returned it to target in early January and my friend works CSR there so he snagged it for me. On top of that he got me a 10% discount so it was about $380 after tax.

A few friends kept me company while I waited for the midnight launch at my Wal Mart. There were only like 16 people and we had been there since about 5 o'clock. Well, around 9:30/10:00 a buddy and I decided to race around the parking lot in our cars. I almost hit a curb I didn't see. Then about 2 hours later I got my 360. Best part of the night, proving to my friend that my Mustang was faster than his Tercel.

Well, I got mine in a funny fashion. Here is the story. I was able to get it two weeks ago.

I walked into Gamerush with my girl. I have been stacking up credit so that I could get a 360. Everytime I have walked in since launch and asked did they have any they told me to keep checking. So, I have just over 400 in credit so thinking they don't have any I let my girlfriend use some of my credit to get Y's for PSP and paid for it. I was about to walk out the door and didn't even think to ask until the lady behind the counter asked why I had so much credit. I told her it was to get a 360 and she smiled then she asked me which one, Core or Pro? I told her with the quickness the Pro so she said she would be right back. To my happiness they got three in that day and 2 were Pro (Premiums) and 1 Core. They had already sold one of the Premiums earlier that day.

So, to sum everything up. The one time I go into Gamerush and didn't think about getting one I was able to get one.

This was in late Jan to early Feb: My friend works at Kmart and knew I wanted one, they got a Core in and he asked a guy to hold it for me. I thought about it and eventually said no, I wanted a premium. He said ok, but he didn't know when they'd get new ones in.

Fast forward a few days to Feb 3rd: I was meeting some friends at a China buffet, which happened to be in the same plaza as the Kmart he works at. I was heading there and my friend happened to just be leaving and he saw me in my car, heading there. He turned around and called my cell and told me they got a few Premiums in, but the guy wouldn't hold it again, after I backed out of that Core a week before.

So we both sped to Kmart and I went and withdrew $420 from the drive-up ATM (on foot, heh) and gave it to him along with my keys and I went and ate. He came in and gave me my keys and after a nice (and free) meal, I was the proud owner of a 360, although with no games, since they didn't have CoD2 or Condemned, although I got both of those later on.

I thought your story was going to end up with you being short by like $20 after getting the game, and then having to choose between her happiness with Ys or returning the game and getting the system. That would have been more dramatic.

Got one about 3 weeks ago. My little bro and I decided that we wanted one so we split the cost. Started to call around the local stores and luckly, my nearest Gamecrazy had a premium in stock. Raced down there and picked it up along with Oblivion CE and the strat guide.

Woke up, checked CC store locator, it was in stock, so I drove down there, waited 15 minutes at the door, and went in and bought one.

if the xbox 360 was a dude you might have something

Got mine today. My best friend fronted me the $460 for a game (Tomb Raider) and a premium system. I in turn will pay him back when I sell my games on ebay. I don't like involving money with family and friends. I feel like when you owe friends or family money the love you have is lost. However, he insisted on it so much that he basically said I'm buying you a 360 and you will pay me back when you can. What can you do when someone shows up at your house with a 360.

A. He feels sorry for you.

B. He's trying to get his dick sucked.

It's one of those two options, now do you want to decide or shall we?

my story:

I went to TRU before xmas to take advantage of the mega $10 clearance they were having. I left work for a while and got to TRU about 10 min before it opened. I thought it was odd that there were about 5-6 people waiting outside. When the doors opened we all went to the eletronics section, where the manager comes out and says that he has recieved 5 xbox360's and asked who wanted them. Since I had not talked to the misses to approve the purchase (too much money to spend without at least consulting her) the other 5 people there all said they wanted one. In addition to buying the system the TRU manager said you were required to buy PDZ and 3 other xbox games.

I called the wife and told he that I actaully got to see some 360's in a store, which in itself (before xmas) was kinda cool. She then says I should have gotten one (doh!). I mill around for about 15-20 mintues and find some of the $10 clearance games I went there to get in the first place. After getting my games I go to the counter and there's still 2 360's left. one was being purchased by one of the original 5 ahead of me, but it appeared that since they were requiring game purchases one of the other decided not to buy it. Since the wife and already green lighted a purchase I said I would take the last one.

The icing on the cake was the manager haad left and worker bee was doing the ringing up. She told me I needed to buy PDZ and 3 other games. I asked which games I had to chose from and she said they just needed to be "xbox" games. I then said will these do (three of the $10 clearance games) and she said "those will work fine!". I think I managed to save $150 over what the others had paid just 10 minutes earlier. The only downside was once the wife found out she said "since you did buy one, that's your xmas present" and I had a wait a couple weeks before I actaully got to play it. Small price to pay for getting one so soon after the launch date!

One funny side note was while telling a co-worker how I got it I found out he spent the night at BB, in the rain, to get one for his son for xmas. He was quite jealous of my story.
