last night i finally saw the film "how's your news?" and i would like to know how many other people have seen it and their thoughts on it.

for those who do not know, "how's your news?" is a documentary of sorts where a group of 5 people with various mental and physical disabilities travel across the country as reporters interviewing people on the street and occasionally casinos, bus stations (air ports?), garages, beaches, and canyons. the reason the movie works so well is because it's hilarious, but you're never laughing at the reporters, instead you are laughing with them.

i loved the film. it was really funny, and the theme song preformed by the cast is totally brutal (which you can download here:http://www.howsyournews.com/mp3/01_HowsYourNews.mp3). so yeah, i suggest that if you haven't seen this already, you do so the first chance you get. you really need to see the dvd, too, because the special features are worth it, especially when ronnie finally gets to interview chad everett from medical center.

it's on dvd now. i'm not sure what kind of theatrical run it had. my friend told me about it roughly a month ago, but never brought me the dvd until a few days ago.

it's something i would clasify as a "must see".

I hate to resurrect an old topic, but I finally watched this today. I really don't think it was intended as a comedy piece. It may be wrong, but my friends and I didn't think that the interviews were the funny part. I was expecting it to be like Jaywalking, except with mentally challenged people asking the questions. Overall, I was disappointed.

the movie wasn't what i expected, either. personally, i think that's a good thing, because i don't think an hour and a half of "let's laugh at the retard" would really be worth it. i think that it's definitely meant to be funny, but i think it's also intends to offer something other than just laughs. i don't know. i liked it a lot, but maybe i have weird taste.

I didn't want an hour and a half of "let's laugh at the retard", I wanted an hour and a half of "let's laugh at the stupid people who can't answer the retard's questions".

I noticed (rather, my friends pointed out) that the woman seemed to be a lot like Jimmy and the guy in the wheelchair was a lot like Timmy. We didn't pay any attention to it, though, until we saw the credits. Matt Stone and Trey Parker were executive producers. Are Timmy and Jimmy based on real people? It's an internet information hunt, everyone!



EDIT: They claim that the characters are not directly inspired by How's Your News?, but I still believe there was some influence.

3. How did you come up with Timmy? Was he from “How’s your news?” or someone you knew personally?

Trey: Timmy was simply a prop to help pull Kenny's tooth out in the Tooth Fairy epsiode. We liked him so much we called Comedy Central and said we wanted to do a whole show with him to which they promptly said "No." They were afraid of doing a whole show about a handicapped kid. Well, we fought for it and won and the rest is history. Timmy is a real gem. He is not directly inspired by "How's Your News".

Matt: Although he's not based on anyone we know, there is a hint of Marshall Mathers in his smile...

Finally watched this movie.
Its soooo good. I laughed, I cried. It was better than Cats. I would see it again and again.
