Huge selection (Even more 5/10) of HD-DVD's $4.74/free shippping on $25+ @ Amazon

von551

CAGiversary!
Probably one of the best HD-DVD deals I've seen yet. Free shipping on orders over $25 and a huge selection (181 movies as of 5/10), much better than Inetvideo's. Orders are fullfilled by Amazon, so orders over $25 get free Super Saver Shipping. I thought I was done collecting HD-DVD's, but this sale made it easier to get some of the movies that aren't must-haves. Getting 11 movies for $65 is nice! LINK

My list:
The Kingdom
Eastern Promises
Casino
Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift
I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry
Mallrats
Hot Fuzz
Deer Hunter
American Me
Happy Gilmore
Traffic

Holy smokes, it pays to keep checking this thread....in for 12

Mission Impossible
Ray
Talk To Me
Zodiac
Top Gun
Hot Rod
Balls of Fury
Beowulf
Blades of Glory
Mallrats
Sleepy Hollow
Coming to America

Dammit, they got Heroes Season 1 back in for cheaper than before. ($12.99 compared to $14.99-- not a huge difference but I haven't even opened my copy I bought last weekend!)

(just noticed some stuff is more expensive than before, too..)

It seems like they got a lot of new Paramount movies in... like Stardust, which has been difficult to find cheap (and is an awesome movie!).

Will it ever end?

I picked up

The Manchurian Candidate
The Deer Hunter
Babel
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
The Big Lebowski
Zodiac (Two-Disc Director's Cut)
Into the Wild

I have a ridiculous amount of HD DVDs now!
Grabbed:

Big Lebowski
Deer Hunter
Carlito's Way
Zodiac
That is a stack of complete win. All those movies look fantastic too.

I grabbed BSG, Flags, and Manchurian Candidate.

Well, my first order showed up today and everything was in great shape. I just saw that they had added more and dropped the price on a few things, so I ended up picking up BSG because for $13 who cares if I don't like it? I also ended up picking up a few of the $5.00 titles that I had been on the fence about.

All in all, between this, inetvideo, and mountainview movies I think I've either met or exceeded all the HD-DVD titles I bought in 2008.

fuck. I've just bought 4 more. I have to stop immediately. At least I've got 2 I've been wanting (and 2 more that I've heard good things about).

Snagged:

Mercury Rising
12 Monkeys
Anchorman
The Warriors

Someone stop me! Just ordered 5 more!!!

Chuck & Larry
Happy Gilmore
Failure to Launch
Waterworld
In Good Company

I caught part of Happy Gilmore on USA HD last night and said I wouldnt mind having this in HD. Did a search this morning and damn I suddenly have 5 in the cart. Ive been wanting to see In Good Company since I caught a trailer for it.

There are a few more in there today. I didn't notice Serenity there when I grabbed my 12 yesterday, and I went through that list 4 times.

Wow, they still have some good ones available and ones I didn't see before. In for Happy Gilmore, The Jerk and Zodiac Directors Cut.

Every time someone updates this thread I end up with more movies :)

Just ordered another 26, to go with the Zodiac, Beowulf and Shooter I ordered on Friday.

Got a few more of the ones I was looking for, Stardust, The Warriors etc

Also had the Impossible Mission boxed set in my cart, but I decided against that.

Good to see more in-stock this week. Some movies went up, but only by a few cents to a buck. I just got my shipment in today and I'm stoked! All were perfect except casino which was a floater and a few scuffs, so i'll watch to make sure it's not affected on video/audio. very fast shipping for free! I'm still waiting for Top Gun from Inetvideo from the 21st! Ridiculous, I got Corpse Bride from VertexPC in a few days...

Yep. They've added more since last night. Serenity definitely wasn't there last I checked, and I would easily recommend that to anyone. I also saw Hustle and Flow today that wasn't there yesterday.

I think I've put in an order every time I've visited that page. Eventually I'm just going to own everything from that list reguardless of if I want to see it or not if I keep going like this. My prime shipping has these coming in two days after I order and inet takes forever, plus I don't have to order $50 worth to get free shipping, so I can just pick them up one or two at a time.

Oh man...Elizabeth: The Golden Age is sooooooo good.

I somehow knew that Craig Armstrong was involved with the score even before pulling the soundtrack up on Amazon.

I just picked up the Xbox 360 HD-DVD player last week from Fry's special of $49.99 with Heroes and Battlestar Galactica as a bundle set and have been on a HD-DVD binge!!! I bought a few last week with the player and the prices are relatively cheaper than their standard DVDs!!!

I just placed an order also w/ Amazon and they just dropped a few more for $5/HD-DVD!!! So much for saving $$$, I just can't stop buying from all these great deals!! I think for a discontinued format, it's definitely worth picking up HD-DVDs, because it's CHEAPER than a movie ticket or the regular DVDs!!!

Thanks OP. I pretty much have everything I want now except for the handfull that are either no longer available or too high new or used. I picked up:

Serenity
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy
Zodiac
Eastern Promises

I picked up 6 more yesterday.

I can't stop buying :hd:s!

Between this sale, inetvideo, and the Blockbuster sale, I ordered 30 :hd: over the past month or so

Awesome! Grabbed so far:

Battlestar Galactica Season One
Dazed and Confused
Serenity

And to anyone who places an order from here on out, it its still available, get Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Awesome HD visuals for the right state of mind. :D

I got tempted and ordered a few more. This is like my 5th order with Amazon in the past 2 weeks..

# 1 of: Serenity [HD DVD]
# 1 of: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas [HD DVD]
# 1 of: Traffic [HD DVD]
# 1 of: The Game [HD DVD]
# 1 of: The Fast and the Furious [HD DVD]

I had to get Fast and the Furious since I already ordered 2 Fast 2 Furious and Tokyo Drift. Then I had to get 4 more to get free shipping. I am done buying HD DVDs for good... I hope..

Count is up to 171 (U2 - Rattle & Hum?). I've noticed that some of the prices have gone up as much as a dollar, but other than that...no real updates.

Anchorman was in my cart. It went from $5 to $7.99. Crap.

Edit: 2/4/09 - Now it's back to $5. I call shenanigans!

Got my second set in the mail today. Everything looks good apart from a small hole in the shrinkwrap along Mercury Rising's spine.

My fucking HD-DVD player needs to arrive so I can watch these mofo's!

I kind of want to get Serenity, but I know nothing about it. I never watched Firefly. Decisions, decisions.

I finally caved at the $5.00 price point. The extra movie (versus $5.94 for 4 plus a filler) pushed me over the edge.

1 "Serenity [HD DVD]" - (Blind buy - haven't watched Firefly YET)

1 "Friday Night Lights [HD DVD]"

1 "The Big Lebowski [HD DVD]"

1 "The Warriors (The Ultimate Director's Cut) [HD DVD]"

1 "The Heartbreak Kid [HD DVD]"

I bought Batman Begins & V for Vendetta at Half.com for about $10 shipped last week too. I might be done with the HD-DVD's unless I find a killer deal on Sopranos Season Six Pt 1 & 2 sometime in the future. All the other movies that I like on their list I already own on SD-DVD and even at $5.00 each, I refuse to double dip to upgrade to a HD format.
A ton of titles have dropped down to $5.00 now.
By George, you're right!

In for 10 more...but like Mick, I think I'm finished. I have a connection at Fry's that can get me the few remaining titles I may want for cheap, but otherwise I'm done.

Thanks!

I'm in for:
The Good Shepherd
Spy Game
U-571
The Big Lebowski
The Meaning of Life

All for $25 even with free shipping!

i'd pass. i didn't watch show either, and it's pretty cheesy. unless you're into the show, you can't appreciate the movie i guess. aeon flux was better IMO, but still not great sci-fi.

Dammit! I just ordered five more. There were actually a few more tempting ones, but I'm going to hold out and see if we get any more price drops first.

Oh, and mick16, I highly suggest you watch the Firefly tv series before watching Serenity. I watched Serenity blind and hated it, but then got the DVD box set for Firefly and watched it all in order and it is now one of my favorite movies.

Thanks for the advice. I noticed that all the Firefly episodes are available on Hulu, so I'll watch them there first.

Anybody else seeing their orders delayed in transit recently? Know FSSS isn't all that fast, but my first order from "closeoutmovies" shipped on 1/20 and arrived 1/26.

First order from "traderbora" shipped on 1/27 with a estimated arrival date of 2/04. Nothing yet, however, and tracking still only shows the package leaving Fernley, NV on the 27th.

Mainly just surprised that the buying experience can differ so much, even though both sellers roll up to the same company.

That's because it's relying on the fantastic USPS. Depends on whose hands your package makes it to. 60% of the Post Offices I've seen that have handled my deliveries don't really scan the Delivery Confirm Label.

Like the guy above me said, USPS. I don't have any gripes with them, but you get what you pay for. I opted to return something to an ebayer via parcel post rather than priority, and it took my package 4 days to get from right outside Hartford, CT to Springfield, MA.

You might not know New England well, but I am not lying when I say I can fucking drive to Springfield in 30 minutes, and that's being generous.

If you want your stuff fast, buy Prime (or do a trial).

Yeah, makes sense. Probably the case. Those recent newsbits about the USPS investigating Amazon sure aren't helping matters either.

I love Battlestar but I my mom got me it as a gift in 07 and paid 100 dollars for season one on HD DVD...

God I feel terrible.

Agreed on Prime, lolwut. Thought about upgrading, but I actually don't mind the slower shipping, plus the longer lead time until shipment is great if I change my mind about an order or want to delay credit card charges for a few days.

It's just the poor tracking and the missed delivery estimate that concern.

Amazon's estimate is generally spot on. It's the Governmental people that F your S up. BTW - PRIME = WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!
