Huge selection (Even more 5/10) of HD-DVD's $4.74/free shippping on $25+ @ Amazon

von551

CAGiversary!
Probably one of the best HD-DVD deals I've seen yet. Free shipping on orders over $25 and a huge selection (181 movies as of 5/10), much better than Inetvideo's. Orders are fullfilled by Amazon, so orders over $25 get free Super Saver Shipping. I thought I was done collecting HD-DVD's, but this sale made it easier to get some of the movies that aren't must-haves. Getting 11 movies for $65 is nice! LINK

My list:
The Kingdom
Eastern Promises
Casino
Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift
I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry
Mallrats
Hot Fuzz
Deer Hunter
American Me
Happy Gilmore
Traffic
Agreed on Prime, lolwut. Thought about upgrading, but I actually don't mind the slower shipping, plus the longer lead time until shipment is great if I change my mind about an order or want to delay credit card charges for a few days.

It's just the poor tracking and the missed delivery estimate that concern.
Usually they never miss the delivery estimate for me, because they quote it so high that it will come beforehand. The tracking is ass though, I'll give you that.

Prime is good, but I don't think I'm going to lay down $80 when my trial ends. Just start your trial at the start of a good sale (like when these HD-DVDs were first popping up on CAG), and you'll get a month of fast delivery.

The only thing that scares me is it's delivered by UPS, and they just don't give a fuck.
Anybody else seeing their orders delayed in transit recently? Know FSSS isn't all that fast, but my first order from "closeoutmovies" shipped on 1/20 and arrived 1/26.

First order from "traderbora" shipped on 1/27 with a estimated arrival date of 2/04. Nothing yet, however, and tracking still only shows the package leaving Fernley, NV on the 27th.

Mainly just surprised that the buying experience can differ so much, even though both sellers roll up to the same company.
Some of my titles shipped 1st Class. A larger order I placed went Media and took several days longer to receive.

USPS transit times completely vary depending on what they're doing at the time, how much mail is being processed, and so on and so forth. Just how it is. It's like when I sell something on Ebay, ship it within 24 hours, and then the buyer complains to ME about the duration of how long it takes to get there. Sellers aren't responsible for transit times -- and neither are vendors like Amazon. You're at the mercy of the USPS and sometimes it's more effective than others.

Count is down to 167, but a good majority of the titles are now $5 each. I'd say if you're going to snap up a bunch, now is your time.

Kinda wish I had waited, would have saved about $20.

I'm waiting for the $3.00 drop :p

Make friends with a Fry's employee. With their discount, discs are roughly $3.

I only bought 3 so far, but I would definately buy at least 30 more if they were just a dollar or two less.

Me too, I got Unleashed for $3 at Harris Teeter. I truly had no interest in the movie, but for 3 bones, WTF? :D
Amazon's estimate is generally spot on. It's the Governmental people that F your S up. BTW - PRIME = WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks again for all the replies, lolwut and phantomfriar2002 as well. Got both my orders today, with three floaters out of 34 discs, two of which were scratched. Not bad, all in all.

Interesting to note that for "Fulfilled by Amazon" items, only refunds are offered, no exchanges. They still allow you to print a prepaid shipping label for returns, however.

On 1/30 I ordered:

Friday Night Lights
The Warriors
The Hurricane
Bourne Identity
The Deer Hunter

They arrived 2/7. Amazon's estimated delivery date was 2/10.

I'll probably pick up 5 more, unless the price drops more within the next few days :bouncy:
^^ the bourne identity is sucha good movie. too bad i dont see him in movies anymore.
Who, Matt Damon? Do yourself a favor and watch The Departed.

^ I believe that would be called sarcasm.

First it was Universal, now Paramount has been added. I wonder if we can expect anymore studios to be added anytime soon.

I ordered BrokeBack Mountain. I always wondered how good it was plus I was interested to see Heath Ledgers performance. I wish I would of thrown flags of our fathers in my cart. Oh well. For the price of a rental, it isn't bad. I still get a lot of use out of my HD-DVD player. Great quality and great audio just nothing to look forward down the road. luckly there was a ton of great hits released on it. Now if I could find batman begins and Sean of the dead, i'd be set.

I finally checked it out and was absolutely blown away. Not only is it an outstanding movie, but his performance as Ennis is just as good as his turn as the Joker (although, obviously in a completely different way).

Prices are starting to creep up again, I had a few movies in my cart I was debating and a couple jumped from $5 - $7.49/$7.94. :/

I keep (kept?) hoping they'd start dropping some to $4.
oh free shipping with prime, i might have to grab a disc or two.
Forgot that my prime membership was still on. Looking for some titles now..

Knocked Up is now on the list but its $7.99 =(

I still might order but not likely, figure I could wait a year or two at most and get the blu-ray for $10.

Place an order for 6 title on Feb 5th and received them today. $5 a title with free shipping is pretty sweet. I am considering doing the whole village and ordering another 10 or 20. I don't think you can beat $5 a title for HD.

I got BD and have even replace some of my HD-DVDs when amazon ran a special and I got the BD version for less than $8 a title so I know that prices of BD will come down. However, it is really hard to pass on $5 a title even if it is HD-DVD.

I've noticed the Paramount titles seem to arrive with a lot more floaters. Probably has something to do with the type of case.

My copy of Face/Off arrived with both discs missing. Thank goodness for Amazon's return policy.

Oh by the way. I received my order within days via Prime. Both Heroes Season One and The Meaning of Life came in sealed and in perfect condition.

Im very tempted to order more. I don't see the Kingdom on there though. Hot Fuzz is back up for 7.49 dollars and 9.99 for Knocked Up.

Now 8 pages and 177 items for sale.

Mission Impossible individually is about 4 dollars cheaper then buying the box set as well.

Don't know how I missed this the first time. Perhaps I've been scanning the forums to much this week.

Glad to hear that. I had a mild interest in this movie when it came out but kept ignoring it every time I have the chance to rent it from a library I worked at. But like you said, my interest was raised after Ledger landed the Joker role and more so after his passing. Thanks for the serious response. The first response from my friends is always replied by a joke but I have a big sense of humor. I'm looking very forward to it now. Thanks again

I'm glad I stumbled over this post after biting on a HD DVD player for my 360 from Fry's. Thanks for the post about this deal!!

Pick up 5 more titles. I could not help myself. All of these are blind buys.

Tomb Raider
The Mummy
The Mummy Returns
U-571
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

I will probably place another order in a couple of days!

I'm buying titles I really don't want now just because they're so cheap.

I'm guessing now is about the time when every single HD-DVD player on the planet breaks at the same time.

The seller is probably one of those businesses that buys back unwanted/unsold items from stores for super cheap and sells them for a modest profit. I wonder when or if we'll get more than Universal and Paramount.
5 bucks for brand new HD-DVDs? Sounds good to me.
i know right? i still haven't had a chance to watch my 11 movies.

I just picked up 5 more this morning, previously i ordered 26 movies (from various sites). Also i just got the matrix series in the mail. I got myself a nice collection plus i picked up a back HD drive from frys.com..

Just an FYI, 179 titles right now but all of the new titles are priced much higher ($9.99, $14.99, $19.99).

Sahara $19.99
Hulk $9.99
The Getaway $9.99
The Frighteners $14.99
Darkman $14.99
The Untouchables $14.99
The Thing $9.99
Apollo 13 $14.99
The Last Starfighter $14.99
Shaun of the Dead $14.99
The Chronicles of Riddick $14.99

Most of the $5 titles are still $5 but several have moved into the $5.99, $6.99, $7.49 and $7.99 price.

Can't argue with movies for under $5.00 w/ free Prime...thanks OP!! And yeah, the deal has been around for a while but I don't remember anything under $5 even so worthy of a post IMO.
Thanks for the post, but this deal has been around for a number of months now, with prices going up and down quite a bit...

Gotcha, but that thread has been dead for 2 months, and last call the prices were back up. On top of that this is lower than prices were in that thread. PLUS--who the hell keeps track of threads on 3rd party Amazon sellers. . . ;)

Umm...people that have an attention span longer than a flea's?

This thread is completely redundant. You discovered a 26 cent price drop, not a polio vaccine. Get over yourself.

Yep, I wonder how many of us, have a couple of XBOX360 HD-DVD drives extras, just for back-up, when our 360 hd-dvd drives break!I myself have one spare, and I am planing on getting at least 2 more next-week...!!
