Humble Bundle Mojam 2-17/2-19

It's a really cool idea but especially for the "game" that was picked to make, don't see how they'd make it remotely interesting or balanced in that amount of time. Not saying it still couldn't be fun, just that as an actual game can't see how it would work. Look how "simple" Minecraft was, and how long that took to make and come out of beta.

IMO they should have done a "60 DAY" game...

I missed this before, but in the typical HB video at the bottom of the page, they said if they reach 1mill, notch will shave his beard.

Normally I'd say I hope they wouldn't reach 1mil to make a 60hr game...but since it's going mostly to charity can't really argue with it.

Please note that it took that long on Notch time. (The Mojang equivalent of Valve time. Slow as hell and lacking content.) >.
so, RTS, Shoot'em-up, steampunk in Ancient Egypt? eh, what the hell, chucked in 6 bucks.
I really wanted a FPS in ancient Egypt...
Is there a minimum or beat the average incentive?
If there isn't right now, then you can pay whatever and still get whatever extras are added on. Or that's how its been my experience.

Yep, that's how Humble Bundles work. If incentives are added after you've bought it, you get the extra content.

Also, I happened to see the live stream at just the right moment...
Notch's new name is Lord Lard, and Jens is The Ginger with Soul. :p

pitched in $3.00. I hope they do a Minecraft discount this week to go along with it. My brother has been wanting to pick it up.

hm, quite laggy stream now they're playing a flash game vs.
put in a buck.

stream seems to be better again now

a real-time strategy shoot 'em up with a steampunk ancient Egypt theme
Why does this sound like Stargate SG-1 meets the Halo Wars? Definitely in for this one, even if it's pointless.

I chipped in but I can't say as I'll ever play it...RTS and me...we don't get along. As usual, worthwhile efforts though, and a good way to raise money for charities.

I'm not sure how a RTS shoot em up would work. Aren't those two completely different things?

Also, didn't they say that Oxeye was going to make a game with the second choices being a post apocalyptic WWII dungeon crawler beat em up? That sounds awesome.

That sounds extremely awesome, actually!

They just posted via their twitter: "We'll also be contributing to the #mojam with a game of our own! It's gonna be a Dungeon Crawler Beat 'em Up set in Post-apocalyptic WWII"

Look up Powerslave for the PS1 (sorta...)

According to the humblebundle twitter, build #1 of "Catacomb Snatch" is available if you donated already

Heh. I would have called it something else but they are Swedes and probably don't get some of the, ahem, alternate meanings of English words.

LOL, I wonder if they have a "Snuke" weapon?

This is the first indie "bundle" that I've bought for $1.00 instead of paying a larger amount. I don't have much confidence in the game itself but idea is neat. Too bad people voted for such an awfully boring combination. Rather have seen a dating sim/beat 'em up in candyland WWII personally. RTS games put me to sleep.

And it is horrible. I hope this isn't the "steampunk" thing... it's... not steampunk.. at all.

It looks pretty awful so far... just little crab things running around shooting balls... I guess this is the shoot em up aspect of it? I hate RTS and the way this looks so far I might not be donating much.

yeah..i figured it would be crap..and people really cant get mad about it being crap being that its all for charity.

It's also only about 15 hours into the 60, give it a bit of time, and what Drabelincoln said, at least its for charity.

I think it is more so because people didn't know they were taking the most and least voted things in each category. I know I didn't know that until right before they started working on it and I voted way before then.

And to everyone saying it looks bad... Really? Might this be why games take a year or more to be made and not in 15 hours (thus far)? And I really think anyone donating for the purpose of getting a game is an idiot. This a game that is being developed in 60 hours. That includes EVERYTHING. They have to figure out how the game is going to work and what it will do and then actually make it do that in 60 hours.

Here's the thing though, we could donate to any of these charities at any point if we wanted to. So the reason we are donating to these particular charities at this particular time is because of their project/promise of a video game. They certainly wouldn't call the people donating idiots even if the sole purpose of their donation is to get whatever game is churned out after 3 days.

I think we all would ideally love to have a great game come out of this and for those of us who enjoy Minecraft we know these guys are capable of making a great game without all the flashy graphics, etc.

That said, no one is expecting anything deep or particularly good looking, but we definitely reserve the right to base our donation on what we feel the worth of the game is.

BTW They also added an unnamed game by Wolfire Games, so we got 3 games to be developed this weekend!

Guys.... it's a game jam. If you're a geek with any interest in building games, then these are talented developers sharing their craft with you. That's worth a donation to them and a charity in and of itself - regardless of the quality of the game. If you're just a consumer, then yeah... maybe not so much. But give em a break and give em some time and money.

The game is looking a lot better now than it was yesterday - there is actually a man character and collectibles it seems. I see no steam punk yet though.

Every time I watched they were pretty much just fooling around. Maybe they were hamming it up for the camera or maybe that's just what they do but either way I can't say it was very interesting to watch.

I'm not going to complain about giving money to charity, but as far as the live stream functioning as either informative documentary on the process of producing games or entertainment it fails at both for me.

Um, has Mojam made ANY progress on the egyptian shooter in the last 24 hours? I swear it plays just like it did yesterday morning, except it is a bit glitchier and less stable.

Watching the live stream, they've made a lot of progress on the game. They haven't updated the playable build on the site for a while now though.
Crap. I was just about to donate.
You can still donate if you want. At the last moment I caved and decided to buy a copy.

Look for "The Mojam is currently over! Missed it? You can still get it here while the developers are finishing up! " next to window where the embedded feed used to be.
