Humble Bundle Thread

I feel the same about Strike Vector. The thing that's keeping me from pulling the trigger are reports from the Strike Vector Steam forums stating the online population is low, and a lot of players that ARE online are veterans, so expect to get your butt kicked.

That said, I tend to do pretty well in these types of games, so I'm still on the fence. Wish the game had bots.
The online pop right now is probably the largest it's going to be until it catches attention by going cheap (and featured) on a big steam sale.

They've done that for a lot of the past weeklies. Kind of odd, I'm not sure who's buying it on the store when they didn't buy it when it was running, but I'm sure there are some people who will.

Does anyone know if there is a way to download all the comics from a humble bundle at once?
I got the dynamite comic bundle and had dl them all one issue at a time.

Download all the torrents, then select the torrents where they are stored and press enter. That's as good as it gets, as far as I know.

There are download manager browser extensions that will scrape a page for a file type and download them all. They may work for the humble bundle key page.

And is that why they no longer sell the original game on Steam, then? The only places that have the game are third party resellers like GreenManGaming. How convenient that this version of the game also doesn't include the DLC stuff that's already bundled with the DC.

They should have plainly said "later releases of the original game via bundles will not include the DC" but since they pulled it from sale on Steam, well.
They seriously cannot win. But lets look at the history, shall we?

Developer releases QUBE DLC for $$$ that is received very poorly and as a cash grab. Due to negative pressure, developer decides that all existing users would receive the DLC for free. It is important to note here that the ONLY people that felt slighted were those that had already purchased the game.

Now the developer has a choice to make:

Scenario 1: Release DLC free for all existing users.

Existing users: Happy. "We supported the game from the beginning and the developer is showing us love"

New users: Content. "I know they released a directors cut but instead of buying that, let me try out the base version first."

Developer: Content. "We lose any potential revenue from our most loyal fans but any new buyers will already know that the DLC exists and won't feel slighted."

Scenario 2: Release DLC free for everyone forever

Existing users: Content. "I didn't get treated special for supporting them from the beginning but free content is free content"

New users: Happy. "The game comes with a free upgrade to the director's cut edition. Score!"

Developer: Unhappy. "We don't get any additional revenue from anyone even though the new users were never slighted to begin with."

The point here is that the reason they released it for free at all is because a certain population of users felt slighted. THOSE were the people that were given free upgrades so that they would not be so negative and ruin the marketing. Any new users should not feel slighted since they already know the DLC exists before buying the base version, although clearly people on this forum still do.

Doesn't take into a account that you can no longer even BUY the original QUBE on Steam. It's a discontinued, outdated version that they're doling out to bundles in efforts to pull people into buying the current version that they should be getting in the first place.

Any developer can do anything they want, but that doesn't make them exempt from judgment from customers. What they're doing is a cash grab, and I don't respect them for it. I'm definitely not alone in that sentiment.

In the end, their actions have burned two things into my mind. 1. Profits are very high on their list of priorities, and 2. Their game isn't really that impressive and borrows too much from other games to stand on its own. The entire game, not only the company's actions, scream cash grab to me. I won't be buying any games of theirs in the future unless they happen to be in bundles where I want the other games.

The thing about being an indie developer is that you do pretty much have to whore yourself out with free games for votes and/or bundles to make a name for yourself. Thing is, doing this is going to get your game into the hands of lots of gamers, and a lot of them are going to play your game and see what you're all about and what you can put out. If they like your game that they got for free or cheap? Then they're more likely to want to support your future endeavors. This is CAG, so we're a bad lot to show that this is a real thing, but gamers do support indie developers if their games are good.

QUBE's devs are just trying to leech every penny they can out of a weak, forgettable game, and they continue to put a bad taste in the mouths of people. It's just pretty shitty all around. The only wise decision they've made (to give previous buyers the DX for free) was ONLY done because of the raging storm of hate that resulted from their actions. Hell, they originally were trying to sweep a clear "YOU WILL GET THE DIRECTOR'S CUT FOR FREE IF YOU OWN THE BASE GAME NOW" under the rug and say never mind to that.

This dev is a dick, not much more to it than that.

The biggest problem that I see is that there's no upgrade option. If you buy QUBE via a bundle, then you're forced to rebuy the game to get the DC content. They could solve all of that by at least offering a discount for the new version.

Selling an inferior version that is no longer available -- and which has no incremental path to upgrade to the latest -- is a bit shady, in my opinion.

It's very shady and also very calculated move, director's cut have been in other bundles, of which two is active now (BundleStars, Indie Royale, Kiss my Bundles), yet they chose to provide only old version to Humble, likely due to how popular it is.

I'd bet that DLC won't ever sale, and someone who wants to play whole of the game, has to effectively rebuy it.

But you're wrong too, there is upgrade option, you will get -35% off Director's Cut when you own older version.

QUBE is actually a good game, the problem is most of the additions to the DC aren't very good.. it's obvious that it's a cash grab. All that was added was voice acting (which was good, I was surprised), a crappy story, and a few puzzles.

My only real complaint about the game itself is that it's short.

Uh... the discount isn't gone. QUBE owners still get 35% off the DC, so there -is- a discount so you can get the new version.

Skeeviness aside, at least they still offer that option. Unless this discount is no longer working with the version on Humble?

Yeah, you all are right. I give them credit for offering a discount. But that still makes it a $6.49 upgrade, which is a bit much for what it is. Paying 65% more to "upgrade" to the only version sold on Steam is asking a lot.

To try and look at it from a positive point of view -- it offers a rare +1 to those obsessed with collecting unavailable games.

Why do people even care about directors cuts/special editions? Usually it's just some mp3s, wallpapers, and some negligible changes to a game most of you probably haven't and never will play anyway.

If I'm going to backlog a game then I want it to at least be the full experience.

I personally almost never care about music and artwork. If I really like the game (or think I will) then I'm tempted by exclusive content (or a more complete edition).

QUBE DC is a little more than that though, as new content and narration are among the changes. It doesn't make it a completely different game, but it certainly feels like it belongs in the game.

Is the precursor, AaAaAA!!! - A Reckless Disregard for Gravity, worth a buck?

Probably not. That katamari rip-off looks cool though.

AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! for the Awesome is a semi-sequel to Dejobaan's award-winning 2009 title, AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! -- A Reckless Disregard for Gravity. The new game brings you 82 remastered levels from the original and 43 brand new ones that are twice as fast!

It's a really good game, but the controls are wonky and it's also really old so it might not work right on some PCs.

And one of the last levels is quite difficult.

Oh and then there's the Wonderful Big Bladder achievement - delete your save game and complete the whole thing in one sitting. @_@

It'd just make me want to play Katamari on my PS2... honestly that trailer looks lacking. It lacks the rolling mechanic or exactly where stuff got glomed-on, also the level design looks uninspired. ...and the music.

That's not too bad if you like the game. I was hooked right away, so I completed the whole thing in one sitting on my first playthrough. But then, I loved Katamari.

TWiW is kind of fun. I've never played the Katamari games, so the whole idea was new to me. It looks sort of sloppy, but that was part of the charm, to me.

Is Monster Loves You! any good? I have a hard time seeing ponying up almost $5 just for that in the BTA.
And if you did Drunk Robot Pornography would be only $3 away...

This feels like one of those all-in or just dollar-it bundles.

It's decent enough for what it is (a sort of choose your own adventure / non weeaboo visual novel for children or children at heart) but I always get the impression that you and MysterD want knights and drama and riveting storylines so somehow I don't see it being your thing.

It's a nice change of pace from generic 2hard4u indie games though I don't know that I would recommend it for $5 to someone on the fence about it.

Who needs a big bladder when you've got diapers.
The Wonderful End of My Potty Training?

Sounds good but it also like it's in the wrong bundle. I think I'll stick with the potty training simulator for $1 and wait for this to turn up in HIB 12 or 13.

Probably not. Awesome is one of "those" sequels that has everything from the first game and more.

Although it's not without it's issues. From what I remember, the game is harder (mainly due to increased fall speed) but they didn't bother re-balancing how many points it takes to unlock new levels, making the later stages of the game a huge grind.

I'll put in that Drunken Robot Pornography is excellent. That is all.

QUBE is actually a good game
We'll agree to disagree on that one. It just wasn't fun. The visuals were interesting for a little while and then became horrendously boring and repetitive, the whole thing just felt like a bad Portal inspired slogfest, and the story only added to that. It's playable, but it doesn't make you want to keep playing it unless you're a total puzzle junkie.

who shall be jinxed for tomorrow today? (EU time is correct, get over with it)

HiB 12?

Humble Ubisoft Bundle?

Humble Bethesda Bundle?

Like they gonna have two three big AAA-bundles back-to-back. So HiB 12 or even a break?

Haven't we had two semi-decent ones in a row?  This one will be bad.  Re: Monsderp Loves You.  It's a cute little Choose Your Own Adventure with mild stats sort of 'game' that you can 'win' in about an hour or so.  Replay value is there but... not very enticing.  Good for kids.
