Lolololololooolol... Magicka as BTA.  CK2 is a good deal for $5-6 I guess... but oh man.

Last edited by a moderator:
Paradox refers to this as a bundle and not a weekly sale. I'm wondering if it's an actual bundle or, like blog writers and forum posters, everything humble is a bundle to them. I'm guessing it's the weekly sale with a bundle already running and the timing, but Humble has no issue with mixing things up.

It's funny that the paradox guy mentions that the BTA price will be about $6.. when the deal hasn't gone live yet.
The HB guys have said that the initial BTA price is set by the developers/publishers themselves from a fake purchase of 100 (I think...) bundles before the bundle becomes available for purchase. There's no way to have an "average" with zero bundle sales.

I mean I could see it maybe if Magicka was is in the base level and then a pack of all of the ridiculous amount of mostly trivial DLC was in the BTA, but I guess they are pulling an EA and not giving any DLC. Only Paradox has way more DLC than even EA.

Well okay maybe not The Sims but more than most EA games.

How is Warlock compared to Civilization V? Does it feel like a shoddy-clone? It kind of looks like one.
It more or less feels to me like Civ V with wizards and without the tutorials or advisers or a lot of the extra stuff. Still, the magic adds a bit of a different element to the mix as do portals to other worlds/locations etc.

I wouldn't pay full price for it but if you like Civ then it's worth throwing a buck or two at and giving it a go.

It's definitely low budget but it's a fun war-game.  It doesn't really try to be Civ 5 so much as Masters of Magic.  Unfortunately the AI is easily exploited in diplomacy (not that diplomacy is a big part of the game) and can be fairly brainless at times when it comes to macro strategy.  The Armageddon DLC sort of fixes these problems in an oblique way by offering a new game mode where it's you and the other AIs against an extremely powerful invading force.

I think Warlock is basically poor man's Civ, with magic, but nothing close to MoM (ok, some aspects are very similar). That being said, it's a fun game, really, mainly focused on combat

This is the internet so: IMO Civ 5 is a poor man's... something. I hope.

Please tell me that's not the most compelling shit out there.

Note: Don't have new DLC but have literally every DLC other than that.

For Strategy games it's generally considered to be one of the most mainstream/accessible (ie you don't have to have a degree in applied astrophysics and spend 3 years studying it to be able to play).

Strategy games in general aren't necessarily known for being fast paced or exciting, but if you want ooh ahh eye candy well Civ V doesn't really have it and you are better off with Total War Shogun 2 or Rome when it comes out for that.

*Edit and yes before anyone starts I am aware of the difference between real time and turn based strategy games but am just talking about the entire strategy game genre in general.

FWIW Brave New World does add a fair bit to the Civ V gameplay though much of it doesn't really come into play until later in the game.

If Crusader Kings II is the only other BTA game, is it worth it? I haven't looked into it but remember seeing it on sale pretty much every other week (well it's a paradox game...), but I've seen a few people say good things about it.
It is a good strategy game - beware the DLC! There's tons of it. Most of it is cosmetic, but some worthwhile. I guess, as it has already been noted, this holds true to nearly every Paradox game.

This,

Honestly people are probably better off waiting to see if Amazon does another cheap CK2 + all DLC pack again than BTA here because the BTA will not come with CK2 DLC from what I understand.

I'm tempted to throw in the dollar for tier 1 (already own Magicka and no interest in Crusader Kings) but are these games actually backlog-worthy? They all look pretty mediocre, except maybe Europa Universalis III, but that's an old version of the series.

I think I'll pick up the $1 bundle, mainly for Dungeonland. Warlock has also been on my radar for a bit, so even if I don't expect to get very far in it it's a cheap way to give it a try.

I'll get the $1 tier for dungeonland. Already have the rest (except leviathan, don't know it). I'll wait for a CK2 complete version.

Warlock is great.

...already own Magicka...
Wow someone owns Magicka? I'm really shocked, because you know it like never goes on sale or anything and hardly anyone has that game.

I am disappointed for The Showdown Effect showing up in two HB weeklies in a row.
I'm disappointed that The Showdown Effect is a lame multiplayer only game that hardly anyone is ever on.

Pretty much.

#IN4DUNGEONLAND4$1

I'm the last person on earth who doesn't own Magicka ... and I had hoped to change that this morning, but this bundle isn't really doing anything for me ...

I'm just going to assume that:

A: Jazz Boatman doesn't make a cameo/voice over in Leviathan: Warships.

B: If  A == true, that makes me very sad.

C: I now want a Jazz Boatman inspired video game.

Oh well, in for a dollar.

Hrm, I have Warlock and Europa from Indie Gala but am interested in the rest for sure.  Been curious about CK2 for a while, but not sure I want to pay the extra "just in case".

Actually, he does.

http://www.pcgamer.com/2013/06/12/leviathan-warships-trailer-wins-e3-launches-free-jazz-boatman-update/

“In response to popular demand (not that we’re slaves to what’s popular; just doin’ what feels right, you know how it is), today’s update brings the sound of a new jazz music soundtrack to the game, along with the silky-smooth vocal gifts of Jazz Boatman, narrator of Leviathan’s hit trailers, as a new in-game announcer.”

I really wanted Crusader Kings and Magicka but not if the DLC isn't bundled with it. I will pay more just to not have to figure out what DLC's I need. Might just give the $ for charity and toss out the keys.

Was kind of interested in CK2 if the average dropped to under $5, but a locked average? fuck that noise. They would have raised a lot more money with a moving average than locking it up, with Magicka to boot.

Oh wait...CK2 has cards? I'm in.

Did Amazon have a CKII DLC-only pack?  And if so how much was it?  I wanted to try CKII for a while, but I don't want to buy it here and then a good bundle has the DLC only with the game.

Most, if not all, of the DLC packs omitted whichever "new" piece of CK2 DLC had just been released. Since there is a Paradox wormhole that spits out an endless supply of DLC, if and when you decided to get that "complete" pack, it probably will never be complete (heck, the EU3 Complete in this bundle isn't complete). Various internetual rumors hint at potentially 2 more years of DLC development for CK2.

It's not for everyone, and $6 is a rather decent entry price to see if you want to get sucked into another Paradox funnel.

No but some of their packs in the past even with the base and DLC together were still way cheaper than just buying the DLC on your own.

Of course Amazon has kind of sucked lately too and their current sale is mostly a big meh except for apparently some $1.25 DRM GTA ripoff.

I'm disappointed that The Showdown Effect is a lame multiplayer only game that hardly anyone is ever on.
I saw the fine print after I hit the buy button. I was hoping against hope that there would at least be a way to play through by yourself - even if on an empty server.

I got CKII as part of an Amazon Paradox bundle for around $10:

Crusader Kings II [Download]

Crusader Kings II: Mongols DLC Pack [Online Game Code]
Crusader Kings II: Ruler Designer DLC [Online Game Code]
Crusader Kings II: Songs of Albion DLC [Online Game Code]
Crusader Kings II: Songs of Faith DLC [Online Game Code]
Crusader Kings II: Songs of the Holy Land DLC [Online Game Code]

Magicka Collection [Download]

Magicka Vietnam
Magicka Wizard Survival Kit
Magicka Caverns and Marshlands

Majesty Gold - HD [Online Game Code]

Victoria II [Online Game Code]

Warlock: Master of the Arcane [Download]

I then got Sword of Islam & Legacy of Rome for $1.75 from the CAG Steam trade thread.

Overall, a much better deal than the current HB.

Edit: Not much point in getting these deals if you can't brag about them afterwards...

Especially if you had that extra $5 off voucher they had going at the time.

ugh, I hate when games do this. I'm not even very interested in it, but knowing that you have to have other people to play with makes it go right in the "never play" list. Who has time to make friends when there are bundles to backlog

In for a dollar. Really want Magicka, but dunno if the BTA is worth it for it.
Probably not. You'd be better off seeing if someone has an Indie Gala Magicka left. I hear there is a CAG that does group buys of those.

I'm disappointed that The Showdown Effect is a lame multiplayer only game that hardly anyone is ever on.
Well with everyone having a spare key to give away, that should change, right?

PAM is the most frequently pimped ghost-town, I think. There have been so many sullenly sullied street-urchins who forwent a month's salary for that POS but, hey, the portion that was donated came back around to them anyway.

In for $1. I already have CK II and Magicka (both from indie and Amazon bundles), and I'm only really interested in Dungeonland since Showdown and Leviathan are both MP games, and Kingmaker is just some DLC for a F2P game.

Regarding War of the Roses: Kingmaker, the packages on Steam are a little weird. Before Kingmaker, there was a free demo and a full game. Now, the F2P game has the demo content, and the full game is locked behind the Kingmaker DLC.

Ah... so it isn't really what I'd count as F2P.
