Title says it all. All the games that are only available via Orange Box (TF2, Portal, and HL2 EP.2) won't adjust to widescreen. Everything else made the switch just fine, but for some reason, those three games do absolutely nothing when I change them to 16:9.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Oh wait it doesn't change it? Well then I don't know.

I set mine to 16:10, and I run it at 1440x900. It seems to work. I don't know too much about widescreen gaming though, so maybe someone can correct me on this.
Yup it should be 16:10 on your computer LCD. 16:9 is for HDTV.
I'll give it a try. Or course, I can't do anything right now, because Steam won't connect for some reason...

God damnit. I tried changing the the configuration on Portal, and my TV is telling me "Mode not supported", which would be just fine if the damn game would automatically reset beck to it's old settings. But it's not. So now, I have to uninstall the game and reinstall it :bomb:

(Just for the record, 16:10 didn't do anything either. I had to play around with the screen resolution).

Wait...are you playing on TV or a PC monitor? If it's a TV set, then you may have your aspect ratio set wrong on the TV. Is the game retaining the widescreen settings after you exit the menu? Does the picture look vertically stretched ina 4:3 frame on your TV? If so, then it has to be your TVs ettings. If it's a Sony, you'll want it on "full", which will autodetect the aspect ratio signal sent by the video card. Other brands have their own terminology.

Are you using a nvidia card?

Go into the Nvidia Control Panel, in Display category change Flat Panel Scaling to "Do not scale"

Yeah, I have my computer hooked up to my HDTV. It's not stretched. The screen is autodetecting everything except these three games.

Also, I just uninstalled Portal, then reinstalled it, and it's still saying "Mode not supported". Why did it save the configuration? I deleted everything :bomb:

Mine doesn't have the "Change flat panel scaling" option....
One more thought..."mode not supported" might be an unsupported resolution. Try reducing your game resolution down to the maximum supported by your set.
That's what I'm currently trying to do, but I can't get into the game to change it because, every time I load up the game..."Mode not supported"

Ok tell us, what is the current resolution you're running in Windows? Try changing the game into the same resolution. If your HDTV is only a 720P, you cannot go any higher 1366×768, but I'm sure the game wouldn't display the resolutions that your TV cannot support. Also, can other games (non-Orange Box games) run at the same resolution you're trying to change into?

1360x768

I can't get into the game. Every time I try I get "Mode not supported"

Yes.

I had an issues like this you do not need to reinstall everything to get it working just fine. One thing id like to know is the type of hdtv that you are using right now for the pc. Open up steam right click on the game you want to launch and click properties. The click launch options and use this -
-width [pixels] -height [pixels] most 720p hdtvs do not support 1280 x 720 for pc mode so just use the max res of 1360×768. I had the same issue with the tv saying mode not supported. If you have any other issues ill gladly help you.

That helped. Thank you. I've got the game running again.

I'm using a 32" LCD. Dynex brand. I don't really know much more than that...

I'm assuming that last bit means I can't run these games in widescreen?
1360 X 768 is widescreen ;)
But my game doesn't have a 1360x768 option. I've tried all the options. They either do absolutely nothing, or give me the "mode not supported" message.

My HDTV won't support widescreen VGA either it will only go up to 1024 x 768 .

Try connecting with HDMI if you can .
