I committed a CAG sin.
While I'm going to be paying near full price for MGS4, I still haven't even considered getting GTA4. Look at the last 3 titles. What GS doesn't have 15 of them on the shelf? It's going to be dirt cheap in weeks.
Dirt cheap? LOL! Dream on buddy. San Andreas took forever to drop in price and same with the other games. Since AAA games like Gears and Halo 3 haven't dropped, I doubt GTA4 will drop sometime this year or the next year.

Because GS has a lot of copies of games that are 3 to 6 years old the new game will be dirt cheap in weeks? All of the GTA games took a long time to drop and I bet GTA4 will too.

It may not take that long considering there are already 6 million copies floating around. That's almost 1 copy for every 2 consoles.

dont feel bad i, almost, did. luckily i have some connections and was able to pay $52 for it. great game. i also almost paid full for mario kart wii, but i paid $45 for it new from the same place. i really didnt see the point of getting the limited edition GTA4 so i didnt even bother. plus it was way too expensive.
I may have to give up my view of myself as a CAG. I did something that is a cardinal rule not to do. I haven't done it in a long time, and I tried not to, but alas, I failed.

I PAID FULL PRICE FOR GTAIV!!! $64 and some change after tax.

I just did it yesterday, I called around and nobody had a used copy, I couldn't find any coupons or deals, and I just caved in. I was thinking of using a CC coupon for $15 off a purchase of $100 or more but I didn't wanna spend that much.

I couldn't wait any longer. Everyone on my friendslist was playing it and constantly sending a barrage of invites.

I'm so ashamed; am I a bad CAG?
No OP you're not a bad CAG at all. Here's the way I view games in terms of "emotional investment;" Will this game give me $xx.xx of enjoyment or entertainment? For games like MGS4 and GTA IV, I am betting and betted that they would/will give me $60 in enjoyment value. There are very few games that I am willing to pay full price for (COD4 and Halo 3 were the only other recent games that I paid full price for) and I expect to be playing them for years and get at least $60 or more of enjoyment out of them. So far I think I have done well because all of those games have given me more than $60 of enjoyment.

There are games that I simply refuse to pay full retail price for (actually about 90% of them lol) and once they reach MY price point, not anyone else's, then I pick them up and hope for the best. Two examples of this were Lair and MoH:A from the Target clearance last week. I picked up Lair first for $14, brought it home excited, and ended up HATING it even though it wasn't much money at all. I would have rather paid $5 to be honest, but hey I took a chance. I bought MoH:A at the same $14 price later in the week when it surprised me on the shelf, popped it in tonight and I absolutely LOVE it. For me I would have paid $30 for this game because I don't think it's worth full price, but I got more enjoyment out of it for such a low price than what I originally expected.

So OP, is GTA IV worth the money to YOU? If so, then you win :)

This should be the new rating system for CAG 2.0: The dollar rating. Great games get the $60 rating. Mediocre games get a $20-40 score and shovelware games get the $5 badge of honor (or less). Great games can also get more than a $60 rating and we'd all never have to argue about how a game doesn't deserve a perfect 10 score.

Totally worth full price. Hell, I've got 85% on my single right now, and as soon as I get 100 percent I am going to play again for under 30 hours achievement. Just started the multiplayer a couple days ago and love it!

The most amazing part of all I haven't even "just messed around" in single player for more than 45 minutes total. And that in GTA game is a game within a game.

So its like 3 games that I would pay full price for, because each faucet of it are all top notch amazing on there own.

i don't know if i'll go back to redo the game again.. (since there are spoilers in anything i say .. i'll just say that it may be privy to do the game a second time) .. because I love the game.. i'm only abotu 22 percent done.. and yeah i love the game so far..

its worth the 60.. to me it feels like its worth the 60.. the only other game I can recommend at that price is The Orange Box.. because its like 5 AAA games in one (well more like 3.. but you get the picture) those two games are well worth the full price tag..

Halo 3 on the other hand.. with a short and disappointing story and not up to snuff mutliplayer (especially when compared to COD4.. although i've never played COD4..) i'm glad that was only a 10 dollar pawn shop buy for me..

to the guy above me.. how is GTA 4 3 games in one?.. i see the single player and the mulitplayer as 2 different things.. do you count single player missions.. then single player just fuck around mode?

You mean like I did yesterday morning just before leaving for my out of state trip? I found a particularly busy intersection in the game world and took it upon myself to beat the crap out of a vehicle till it started to have flames coming out of it.

I then stopped that vehicle in the middle of the intersection and watched other cars pile up around it. Then, I stood there and watched as the car exploded and started a chain reaction which kept going for about 10 minutes in real time. It kept going because other cars kept stopping in the intersection where the recently exploded cars left tons of fire burning on the ground and they ended up on fire as well.

Yes, I would count just messing around as a game on its own. Not in any other sense but just for the fun factor of it and the amount of time you can spend doing ridiculous stuff. Hours and hours and never even play a mission. You could literally pop in the game have blast and do "nothing" for 2-3 hours and feel satisfied.

Google was nice enough to send me a $25 off $75 coupon for Buy.com last week. So that went towards getting the Collector's Edition for $60. It all evens out, though. I just spent more on a secondary market Collector's Edition of Assassin's Creed, since I missed out on it at retail.

You win some, you lose some. (mostly lose)
