last night was working on my sister in laws computer around 5am started to walk out while playing FF3. I turned out the lights and my shoulder rammed a dresser causing the DS to fly out of my hands. I heard the sounds of plastic pieces and knew that it must have been the hinges breaking off. Stunned I turned on the light, found out that the game was still going and the system was fine minus a little mark on the corner of the top panel that hit the floor first. What I heard was the stylus getting jolted out of the system and then tumbling all on the floor.

My biggest fear about the DS was the cracked hinge, but after being flung against a hardwood floor, I'm a little more confident in it's durability!



I generally keep good care of my systems, with the exception of the DS accident and another that had me drop my SP on the pavement..which also was fine.

I'm pretty sure only the DS Lites had the "cracked hinge" issue.

As far as system abuse stories... the only time video games ever made me violent was during a match of WCW vs. nWo Revenge on the N64. I was beating the snot out of the CPU, when out of no where the CPU puts me into a grapple and somehow knocks my ass out. I was so pissed that I picked up my controller and slammed it to the ground. I broke the bitch in half.
 
The only video-game related issues I've had is with the PS2- I forget what set me off, but I pressured the controller on the sides and it popped open. :lol:
 
Now that I think about it, I dropped my lite on the carpet floor from a decent height once....and my DS cart poped out, but nothing bad happened to the DS.
 
Only thing I've dropped accidentally (and repeatedly) has been my Creative Zen, hardwood floors, concrete, it's hit them all. 4 Years, and still running tho - I'm more than positive that if I had spent the extra $100 at the time for the same thing with an Apple name on it, that it would have been long broken. ;)

I've used and abused my 'pod more than any sane man should. I can't think of a product whose durability I've ever been more impressed with.

Not to mention, I once fell on a 10-month old iPod (skating with it in my back pocket)... Apple overnighted a prepaid box to me, two days later a refurb arrived on my doorstep.
 
I've dropped my DS fatty more times than I care to admit(on concrete, on tile, you name it) but it takes a licking and keeps on ticking. Nintendo just makes products that work. I saw EGM did this thing on the GBA where I flushed it in a toilet and dropped it from high distances and it still worked.

Ive had the Zen Nomad for 2 years, thing weighs like 100 lbs so when it hits the ground it hits hard. I have dropped it soooo many times and the top pops out with the battery, but its still workin fine, although scuffed up and dented all over the place.
 
I was watching a DVD with some friends a few years back, on my PS2, and I didn't have a remote. Of course, one of them tripped over the controller and pulled the system down 2-3 feet on to the floor. Amazingly, it was fine.

I've dropped my DS Lite on tile once, it clattered and shut off, and the game popped out and slid across the floor. I was horrified.

But, of course, it still works. I think I'd have to submerge that thing in water to make it not work. Or run it over with my car.
 
So you have a black DSL right....is it just me or do these DSL get scratched to hell? I am a neat freak with systems and my DSL is covered with scratches! It's really annoying. Plus it's constantly covered with fingerprints and such. Am I the only one with this problem?

I dropped my DS on the cement one time because it fell out of my pocket. It got some scratches, that's about it.

I dropped a GBA when i was little onto cement. It hit the screen and the screen cracked in 3 places, and what looked like battery acid clouded it over so you could only see 1/4 of the screen.
 
Dropped my white Dslite on my wood floor a few days ago. It was halfway open when it hit, but nothing at all happened to it.

No it's not you it's the DS Lite. I just got a new Onyx DS Lite, am extremely careful with it & it's already covered in very fine scratches. Not to mention fingerprints. I even wash my hands before I pick it up & it still gets scratched up & covered with fingerprints. I don't get it. I was really surprised how quickly the touch screen gets scratched by the official Nintendo stylus! What's up with that?

I've had a GBA for over 5 years & treated it with general disrespect (dropped it I don't even know how many times) & it looks almost as good as the day I bought it. Go figure.
 
My cousin dropped his DS in water and it still manged to work, most of the time. One of my younger cousin drop his DS lite bad enough that the R button got stuck, but other wise everything works fine
 
I have dropped my blue ds phatty on concrete about 5 times and the thing still works perfect. Too bad the battery only lasts about 4 1/2 hours since day one.

Oh, that sucks. I should have gone with the white DSL. Does it have that same problem?
 
i did a similar thing to the OP, I walked into a table corner while playing Dawn of Sorrow. this gave me a charlie horse, my DS went flying (fat one) hit the hardwood floor and broke the hinge off. The DS still played great though, i put some tape on it to keep the upper screen from moving and kept playing it for a few months. eventually i sold it on ebay, still functioning for $45
