Well, im trying to see what i can get for around or less than $300. Either another laptop or a desktop pc, for family use, not aiming for gaming. Bang for buck and would prefer a laptop out of the two.. I use to pc game but that was a lifetime ago.
You can surely game on any Laptop made after 1992 with little to no problem. The type of games you can play would be the limit.
For example I have Asus Netbook 900HD that I got for $50.00 back in 2009. It has over 9,000+ games on it from Platformers, Fighting to Shooters. Only 27 of those games are 3D and those games are using engines made prior to 2005.

Also - I do a lot of volunteer work for non-profits that have small budgets for tech. Every week I pick up 5 to 10 PCs and Laptops for free from
http://www.craigslist.org and
http://www.freecycle.org/.
This is what I picked up last week:
1 x Toshiba Satellite A45-S120 Laptop - Used - FreeCycle.org
1 x HP Pavillion Dv6700 Laptop - Used - FreeCycle.org
4 x Free Used Computers - HP Pavillion a710n - FreeCycle.org
4 x Free Monitors - 2 Used, 2 Unopened - HP mx705 - FreeCycle.org
1 x Free Used Printer - Canon MP495 - Craigslist
With the first 2 laptops the only problem they had was lots of spyware installed. They also needed a good dusting. The desktops had bad HDs but everything else was good.
