I was shopping around the horror movies today and noticed that Bestbuy had about five of the $26.99 Amityville Horror 4 packs in the spot that the $9.99 Amityville Horror dvd was supposed to go. So I took the 4 pack to the register and it obviously rang up for $26.99. I told the cashier that the set was marked at $9.99 on the shelf, and showed her where it was at and got it for that price :)

I saw the original AH on cable the other night, and it really made me wonder how the original film could have done so well at the box office. It was a pretty poor excuse for a movie by any standard in its day, and it hasn't aged well either. At least the 2nd film was genuinely creepy at times.

So you went into the store, picked up an item and purchased it. All you had to do was lie to the cashier since you knew the item you picked up was in the wrong spot on the shelf.....what a great deal. Seems to me like you STOLE from the store instead of getting a great deal.

A lot of trouble for a bad movie.

They are the ones who messed up and put the movie in the $9.99 spot. In some stores it is policy to sell the item. Get over it.

Actually since they did not have a price tag on the actual item itself they did not have to sell it at that price. The clerk was overly nice or overly stupid to give it to you at that price.

I dont think you should defend yourself Rawis, let others do it if they see fit.
I do think you mislead them about the DVDs, she should have checked the UPC#s or whatever to see its the right DVD.
You just got lucky with an idiot cashier.

Agreed it was either an idiot cashier or a cashier who didn't care. I would probably give it to you because I know I wouldn't care.

The problem is that this leads asshole customers to CONSTANTLY BADGER CASHIERS FOR STUPID REASONS to try to get an unfair deal.

Actually Rawisjericho is correct. When I was in high school I worked at a store and I know the store policy there was that if the price on the shelf was marked wrong, that is the price we would sell it for if a customer complained, even if it was a mistkae.

Another agreement - its the stores fault for hiring a less than compent stockboy/girl who incorrectly placed the merchandise.

what keeps people from moving the movies unless it said on the sticker 9.99 4 pack

I only saw the original, and I agree. It sucked so bad. I saw it with a bunch of other horror films (sleepover with my cousin, we always rent a ton of horror movies) and it was probably the worst we saw that session.

This is exactly what I thought. A lot of people don't put movies back in the same place when they are browsing. It was probably just a customer that wasn't paying attention, or didn't care where it went that misplaced it.

Yeah. And of course there are the customers who'll move stock around shelves... I've seen it at Target where I used to work. It was funny. They knew we had to honor it. XD

I didn't know if they would do the price adjust or not, but I figured I'd give it a shot since it was in the wrong spot.

The set includes
The Amityville Horror
Amityville II: The Possession
Amityville 3-D (not actually in 3-D)
and a bonus disc - Amityville Confidential

Good point.. But there was about 5 boxes in that particular spot and it was completely full on the shelf. So it was most likely a employee stocking mistake.

I've done the same thing myself. If they mark the product wrong it's their own fault. People saying this is the same as stealing are crazy.

I don't think its quite on the lines of stealing as it is taking advantage of a (stupid) employee's laziness. Especially when the said company we're talking about calls people like us devils.

Normally I wouldn't defend stuff like this... but in this case of Best Buy... those fuckers deserve it and then some. So great job OP! :D

If you whine enough, you can get pretty much whatever you want. It's just a matter of how far you're willing to go. I've had many, many jobs, and if a customer bitches at me, I'll stand my ground for about 2 seconds, then call a manager, who more than likely is willing to suck the customer off to make sure they don't go to corporate and complain.

If you exploit this simple rule of corporate America, you're probably a total dick. I don't think the OP did anything wrong, though, since he doesn't sound like he badgered the cashier or anything.

Edit: This post was needlessly vulgar to show my utter hatred for customer service jobs, and the typical management associated with it. : (

Here is a rundown of what I did, just so people know.

A new checkout lane opens up and I walk to it. I placed the 4 Pack DVD on the counter and the cashier ringed it up.

Cashier: That'll be (total)

Me: Hmm.. It said $9.99 on the shelf.

Cashier trys to call the department with DVDS, but no one will answer.

Cashier: Can you show me where it was?

Me: Yeah.

I then walked the cashier to the spot that I got the 4 pack from and showed her the $9.99 tag. The rest of the 4 pack movies are still up there at the time. She looked at the yellow tag, and then at the 4 packs on the shelf. She then went back up to the front and rang me up.

I believe this. Those assholes in the "media" dept NEVER pick up the phones here. It takes me at least 4 phone calls to get a hold of them, and I'll let the phone ring about 10 times before I hang up.

I mean, one of the stockers put it in the wrong place, and one of the BB employees was obviously "too busy" to answer the call, I say he's justified in having it.

This all stems from my hatred of the media dept. from when I worked at Best Buy. Those people would never answer the phone, never answer the cashiers when they were paged... they basacially did nothing all day and customers would come over to my section (appliance of all things) to try and get help with cd's / movies / games.

Well, being as how the DVD set itself was marked $26.99, and the shelf tag read $9.99, they really did NOT have to honor the $9.99 price. Its an onbious mistake, and you are taking advantage of it. Now, I'm sure it wasn't on purpose, but if WAS obviously $26.99.
