crap >_< which one should i play first?

play SH and be disappointed at SO3's story, or play SO3 first and disappointed at SH's graphics and gameplay?

I haven't played the 3rd one, but part 2 is very very very good. It's probably my favorite RPG for PS1, followed very closely by FF7.

2 was better cuz the killer moves were so much cooler (especially with the link combo) i mean seriously they had tear gas for chisato and mirror slice for Claude and OMFG TRI-ACE FOR ASHTON!

Where as in the SO3 battle system u got these weak o moves like side kick and ethereal blast psssh baby stuff. and cp is gay! bunny shoes r gay! But it was still enjoyable. BTW it takes like 5 hours to get into the game so don't give up too early.

My suggestion is u play SH first and then watch SO3 blow it away in comparison.
 
I got both for around 20 each...so rush to sell it here.

started playing SH, the graphics is...well, crap since it is a 5 year old game, but im loving the story already. 2004 was great, Square enix got lazy so alot much better rpgs poped out, shadow hearts series and tensei series

SO3 is longer than SH. Dunno if that makes any difference to you. I've beaten SO3, but I've been at the end of SH for ages. Just can't bring myself to level up more.

That's one thing that SO3 definitely has on SH: battle system. SO3's battle system is real time and awesome to play, but SH's is just regular old turn based RPG fare with the addition of the Judgement Ring. A lot of people seemed to like it, but I really didn't think it was that great. Original, yes, but not exactly something I like to do in every battle.
 
I actually just beat both of them. SO3 is definitley the longer game. SH took about 30 hours and SO3 took about 45 hours for me. You really have to level up your characters in SO3. Didnt have that problem with shadow hearts. I dunno. SH was the better game for me. I would play it first because the story is forgettable in SO3 and you can pick it up at any time.
 
Play star ocean. Although I think its a love it or hate it RPG. I still think its one of the finest RPGs made in the last 2-3 years
