So while at work my room mate calls and tells me that after he arrived at our house he saw that basically every possesion I had was gone.My HDTV,PS3,360,PC,entire DVD collection, all my ps2,ps3,and 360 ..EVERYTHING I owned had been stolen.I know sit here on my roomates laptop wondering why me.I know only have clothes

Is there any chance it was an inside job?
Wasn't Microsoft able to help authorities apprehend a thief because he logged onto to XBL using the stolen Xbox?
Yeah.

No..no renters insurance..i assumed that the owner(my roomates step dad) had theft coverage on his homeowners, but no.It feels so weird..i mean my car just got totalled..so im worried about that. Then now this.Right now i own nothing except my clothes.I have no enemies and am nice to everyone and this is what it gets me.

Your roommate better have had his laptop with him or have had it hidden when he wasn't home because if not, that's VERY suspicious.

He had his laptop with him while he was out of town.Yeah all his dvd's got stolen as well.Along with his stereo.I dont know what to do.Some much money gone in a flash. No more games or anything.I came home to an empty house. It feels surreal.

Crappy thing to learn, but ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS have your own renters insurance. Even if the dad had insurance, it would not cover your stuff, only his. For ~$100 a year, you gotta get it, in case of theft, fire, anything.

Sorry to hear of the loss though OP.

I got robbed too a couple years back man. I know how you're feeling. Nothing I can say but good luck dude.

It just is terrible b/c now im gonna have to get a laptop to have something.Im already strapped for cash cuz of the damn car..now this. Its mind blowing

Im still in awe how the hell someone could break into your house (apartment?) in broad daylight and jack an HDTV, Computer, and all your other stuff. Did they steal your dresser, bed etc too?

it is a house.Yeah but they only stole stuff of value so basically all electronics.Oh and I just though they also got my Digital Camera. This sucks. Why cant people just work for what they want.I spend my hard earned money on all my stuff and it was all stolen.People suck. by the way..whats the best store/site to get a cheap laptop?

And nobody who lives around you noticed somebody making probably a dozen trips out to a big, shady-looking van with tons of stuff? Ask everyone in the neighborhood if they noticed anything.
I asked neighbors all around us,but they were mostly at work. The police came, but no fingerprints..so..im fucked basically...
The cops dusted your house? WTF.

Unfortunate. Make sure that you call in as many of the pawn shops around you as you can and tell them to notify you if any of your stuff comes in (in the bundle).

Sorry for your loss man, must be terrible. When I was around 9, we came home from a vacation and found our house ransacked. My most priced possession, a NES, w/ various games, were gone. How I wish, to this day, to find the people responsible and hang them by their balls. Oh so delicious......

Sorry to hear about your incident. I can sympathize with you though, about 3 years ago someone also had broken into my apartment and stole more or less around $2000 worth of things from me. My PS2, 30 PS2 games (all bought new), my custom go-ped, most of my DVD's. I felt like crap afterwards and made me become a lot more paranoid from that point on. The cops weren't much help at the time either, it seemed they didn't really give a crap. Never got any justice from it. Anyways I know it's a long shot but i wish you luck in finding anything.

Check craigslist in your area too. If you find your stuff, goad them into atleast e-mailing you back with concrete info then tell the police.

I was so excited to get Burnout tommorow too..nothing positive from any of this.Im so paranoid now i just wanna buy a DS and always keep it with me.Oh and i posted this on the EGM boards and they are calling bullshit and saying "no one cares" etc.people are jerks

That is incredibly horrible man, I truly hope the culprits are caught and most if not all of your stuff can be returned to you.

The only thing I've ever had stolen was my bad-ass Super Mario Bros 2 wall Clock and a copy of Clerks: The Animated Series on DVD from my old apartment in Chicago. I was angry about both things, but they seem like nothing compared to your loss. It's unbelievable. :(

This is some awesome advice.

Also, just be careful during this whole thing. Really. You can always buy more games and stuff..but you can't get your life back
Please keep us updated with your situation!

Sorry to hear about it, I hope you get it all back.

I guess try to be glad that you're fortunate and well off enough to have had all that stuff in the 1st place.

also try fleamarket and maybe ebay. The stolen stuff have to go somewhere

As for the police there is very little they can or will do unless someone got hurt.

yeah..i got alot of that stuff while still living at home and using my job money to buy.Now that im out on my own..ill never be able to afford it all again.

Is theft not common where you are? I was kinda wondering, you living in Japan et al.

Damn, that stinks >_< I hope you can track down at least some of your stuff, and get this thing straightened out (also, yes, get renter's insurance so you're covered in case something like this happens again). Here's wishing you the best of luck.

i just went through this shit, where my neighbor came in and stole my 360, my 21 of my games and my sopranos dvd sets.

the cops took it pretty seriously cause they know the kid. i came home this morning to find my 360 and games in a bag on my door step. they're going back to talk to him about the rest of the shit today.

keep up hope man. ya never know whats going to happen.

I sure am happy to live on the outskirts of town... though then again my neighbors across the way have been robbed.

Insurance is a good thing.

Slowing skinning thieves alive, and pulling out their toenails one by one with pliers is even better.

As others said, call/check the pawn shops in the area, keep an eye on craig's list. That's about all you can do. Cops don't catch burglars often, and even when they do they don't often recover many items.

*anal alert*--This is a burglary, not a robbery. A robbery is having something taken from your person with force or threat of force--burglary is a breaking and entering (usually accompanied by theft). Sorry for being anal, but I am a criminologist--and you got burgled.

But it still sucks absolute balls, and I hope you're one of the rare cases where you or the cops track down the criminals and most of the stuff!

I've thankfully never had anything stolen. Spent 23 years in WV, were there's hardly any crime. Last 6 1/2 have been in the DC area where crime is very high, but I lived in a nice area for 3 1/2 years and didn't have any problems. Live in a not so nice area now, but in a building that's controlled access where it would be very hard for somone to break in the building door and our condo door without a neighbor noticing (someone's always around do to having housewives and an elderly couple in the other units).
