I have a moral dilemma

I need advice. I feel guilty, and am interested in your opinions.

Would you go back and pay for a Mario Party 4/Wavebird bundle that the K-Mart Employee put in your bag without scanning?

The Whole Story:

I went to K-Mart to take advantage of the 50% off sale today (about 10 minutes ago); I was planning on purchasing three things: Wavebird Bundle, Baten Kaitos, and Viewtiful Joe 2.

The first thing I found was the Wavebird bundle. I asked if it was on sale, and he called a supervisor. While the supervisor was on the way, I found Super Monkey Ball 2 also on the 50% off rack (it turned out to not be on sale, I didn't press the issue)

The supervisor arrived, and checked the price of MP4/WB with a portable scanner. He confirmed the sale, and then the employee rang me up.

Between the voiding of Monkey Ball and checking, long story short, they bagged the bundle without charging me. I was in a hurry and didn't check the price, as I was on my lunch, and didn't notice until I got back to work.

Now I want everyone's opinions.

WWCAGD?

personally, i wouldnt, but im not the most moral personn on the planet, if it bugs you, go pay for it, if it dosent bug you, free wavebird ^^

Just because they f'd up, does not make it not theft. I recently purchased floor tile from Lowes, they rang up 20 piece boxes as single tiles. When I realized the error (around a $800 error), I immediately went back and paid the difference.

Its all about having some morals.

WEll, I'm a pretty moral person, but I figure it was their own screwup. It's not like you did anything wrong, except by not correcting the matter, but is it really worth the gas ;-)
Seriously, K-mart is a big company I wouldn't lose sleep over it. and if you are asking moral advice from CAG, you know the answer... what's the cheapest way... which is just keep it for free. Call it a loyal customer bonus.

I would most likely not return it, just because of the hassle involved.

But, it would be morally correct to return it.

(my Kmart had 5 Baten Kaitos this morning at opening. Don't know if they have any left, but if you'd like me to check for a trade or something, PM me. It's about a 5 minute drive for me. They had 1 VJ2, but it's probably gone. Too bad I already owned both!)

I would say go back and pay for it, but it's all in how you feel. If you feel guilty, most likely you should return to K-Mart and show them their error.

If it bothers you return it, if you have to ask the question then return it. It's taking advantage of their mistake as far as I'm concerned, it's different than taking something without giving them the oppurtunity to charge you.

I would return it, unless that store gave you problems before, or you just hate the company's ways of doing business (bad business ethics). If it was a bundle at Best Buy, I wouldn't even mention it, they give me hassles.

interesting dilemna. For some reason I judge things like that depending on the emplyess/service I get.

About a month ago I bought a ton of games from EB and they accidentaly put some games someone had traded in with the stuff I bought, and since I'm cool with those guys I immediately returned them.

Other side of the coin, Walmart.com sent something and it didn't arrive within 2 weeks and they sent out a replacement and they were going to upgrade my order. The original item showed up 2 days after i called to get a replacement, and i was going to return it, but then my 2nd order came and it was also screwed up. I was pretty pissed by then so I ended up keeping the first item as well.

Pretty arbitrary way to decide things I know, but what the hell

I basically am. Have you voted in the Poll yet?

:D

Quit being a Pus*y about it. Keep the item and thank k-mart evertme you are buying gun ammo and games. What if you waste your gas all the way out there and the person says so what keep it, or they say thank you 37 whatever bucks. Then you walk back to your car and are they going to give you gas money for being honest. I mean being honest is a good thing but this is America no one cares. This is the country where all major corporatoins are all about geting over on the consumer while trying to act like they care. Fu*k K-mart the alabama of retail

You shouldn't feel guilty IMO, but since you do you should probably return it. If you don't though, I'd like to buy MP4 from you, for cost + shipping. *actually, I really am looking for MP4*

ok id like to carlify my last statement, i am moral, but i am not moarl enoguh that i woudl return this, or it would bug me to have it.

just a couple weeks ago i sold something to someone here on cag he sent me the MO and i was about to send out his package, and i get a PM from him saying hes sorry that he didnt send payment and wanting my address, and i told him that i already got his payment, and was shipping soon, when i easily could have just taken an extra 10 bucks. so dont think im some kind of monster

Would that be K-mart's cost or "fanskad" cost cause if it is "fanskads" cost then you only have to pay shipping and his gas money.

If K-mart costs then you owe 35 + shipping

I think if it's a hassle to go back to Kmart, just keep it and give the money you would have paid to some charity of your choice.

Yes I have and you should keep it. Fate has choosen you and your one lucky sob, so just keep it. You can't go against fate. Besides this is kmart, one item isn't going to hurt them. People make mistake all the time and kmart knows that to. Kmart make mistake too, like price error that they will honor and so forth, so just keep it. If you really feel guilty just keep the game and with the money that you would have spend go back and buy more stuff at kmart so in a way your helping them.

As I read that, I heard the Gingerbread Man's voice saying, "You're a monster!"

Anyway, I agree with cornfedwb and the others who say it is wrong, anyway you look at it. And if you have to ask, then you probably already had your answer anyway. You know what's right. You decide.

I can't believe the "No screw them" is winning. Wow, I hate America.

I have an experience like that. I bought THUG for ps2 when it was still $50 from TRU. This was during one of their B2G1 free sales. I was buying a bunch of games and the chick (who's number I later got, but ended up being crazy) didn't ring up THUG. Keep in mind that I got her number a later date and not this day, so it's not like she was hooking me up.

Anyway, being a moral person, I went back and told them about the mistake. They told me since it wasn't charged that they wouldn't return it. I did my duty and I felt a lot better about it. You are a lying sob if you say you're moral and keep it.
Wow, I hate America.
Well that's good because we Americans hate you. :p
can somebody tell me how I can change something I have written
Well you've come to the perfect place to ask. A thread that has nothing to do with that. :x

Look at the top-right of the post you want to EDIT and look for the button that says EDIT.

 Helpful and humorous as always.

Back on topic.

I appreciate all the feedback. At this point, I'm still interested in collecting more opinions.

I don't believe one could possibly lie about whether they are a moral person, because morals are an internally defined mechanism. But thank you for your input!

Well my opinion is to keep it since I hate k-mart, but if it seems to conflict with your morals take it back. Either way it's not a huge deal, K-mart isn't going to blink over the loss of $25 and you certainly aren't going to become rich off this.

Take it back. Maybe if they find they were in error, they will just give it to you like what happened with above poster at toys r us...

Agreed. It's no huge deal either way.

I thank everyone for their opinions, I'm going beck to K-Mart on my lunch on Monday. (spoke to the manager today)

I have to confess, I had decided to return in the middle of the creation of this thread, but I wanted it to run it's course and see what the community's consensus was.

Thank you again. The results were different than what I had anticipated.

GO back and buy something else the value of the bundle, this way you are paying for it and getting something atthe same time!

Sweet Deal...and i woudlnt return sh*t. One day you will run in to troubel there and they wont give you a deal so consider this PRE-payback.

I could see returning it if it was a charity or something. I got a rat from a humane society once and they didn't charge me, I was going to leave but I felt bad walking out and when I got to my car, so I went back in and gave them the 5 bucks. The way I judge these things is if I have any regret whatsoever then I go back, you were willing to give up the money to begin with, better to lose the money than have the guilt. I've only had any regret that once, every other time it makes a nice story.

Basically, it bothered you enough to ask the question, you were unsure, then go back and tell them. That's what I would do if I had any doubt.
