On a fluke I was able to get a sweet deal on a PSP. I've never really had an interest in owning one because I can't seem to find a game I want to play. But I'm going to give it a shot...

I like games that you can pick up and play for short periods of time. I pretty much steer away from RPGs because I don't have the time commitment for them anymore.

Also, games that are PSP exclusive are more interesting to me...I know puzzle quest is a great game but I can get that on any system.

So my request is that you recommend me one game. Two if you just can't decide. Get me to love my PSP!

Crush, Exit, and Loco Roco are all great games that you can play for 30 minutes, beat a few levels, and then set aside for a few days. You can find all 3 for under $20 now too. I know a lot of people hate on them, but you can do the same with the Metal Gear Acid games. The Mega Man games are pretty good - Powered Up being the better of the two. If you're a Bomberman fan, that's another great quick-play game.

I'd also recommend Jeanne D'arc - you can play it in 30 minute sessions, 1 level at a time - but the entire game itself could take you 50+ hours if want to see everything.

I still say Jeanne Darc, its THE best game on the PSP.

Short pick up and play? I just got ultimate ghosts and goblins last night and I have to say I'm very impressed. Extremely hard, but difficult without a lot of repetition and very forgiving at the same time. Has pick up and playness and some longevity

As for puzzle games, with the exception of PQ which is like crack, most puzzle games despite "pick up and play"-ness are too trite and a waste of time.

I'd recommend Loco Roco and Worms Open Warfare 2. Loco Roco is a crazy game but practically a PSP classic. Worms Open Warfare doesn't look too bad either and can be played in short bursts. WOW2 is available on both DS and PSP, but they say the screen on the PSP makes it the better system to play it on.

Anyways the neat thing is that both games have free demos that you can try by visiting the PSP website. You can download them straight on to your PSP via the wifi connection and give both games a try for free.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I remember hearing about Loco Roco when it came out...I'll probably hunt that one down. Hot Shots Golf, a racing game (burnout probably) and maybe Lumines should start me off right. Now which one to get first?

Also, how hard is it to play the original PS1 games on the PSX? I'd love to be able to play my copy of Star Ocean or Puzzle Fighter on the go. How does the saving work when you rip the game to the PSP?

Hot Shots should be clearanced at most Sears for around 3 bucks, and Lumines 2 was clearanced at TRU for around 10 bucks, if you can find either of those. You might have a hard time tracking down the original Lumines because of the downgrading exploit, but it depends where you live. I think I remember GS jacking up the price on it also.

IMO you should get Lumines 2 first, since it's very addicting. You probably won't get tired of it. I would probably go with Burnout as a second option, but HSG is great as well.

Checking eBay it looks like Lumines is pretty cheap

Sid Meier's Pirates.
Also, the GTA games are pretty fun. By the way, even the developer of Puzzle Quest stated that his "ideal" version of the game is on the PSP, even though it's on every other system.

In all honesty, PSP games are mostly "pick up and play" type games. Just flip the power switch up quickly and the system will go into sleep mode.
