I too am recongnized by the workers in the Blockbuster(s)/GR(s) in my area. I also have become pretty good friends with the guy that works at BB in the media department. And then there is CC, every employee in the Computers, TVs, and Games section knows me because of how much I have been in there lately looking for a computer and tv for college.

Last week one kid even said to me "Wow, you're here again. You're here more than I am and I work here." Come on it was only the fifth time in 8 days.
 
LOL I have had this one clerk in the store in Middletown, NY remember me vividly at least the last couple times I went in there because I was the guy who 'cleaned them out of penny guides'. LOL

She joked with me one of the last times I was there about not having many guides left or that I didn't leave any guides for anyone else.

When I bumped into ShiningSlade at that store about 2 weeks ago or so, we went to that same cashier, who I was going to joke with about 'not having many guides for me to clean them out of' but I didn't.

Anyway, if you are at a store enough times in a short period of time, a clerk may remember you vividly.
 
LOL Someone mentioned about that return policy at Babbages. You should have seen the one at EB, I don't know how they stayed in business so long. I would buy games in the 16 bit era, play them for a couple days, realize they sucked and take them back.

Thing was, most stores had different prices between them and if you returned a game without opening it you got cash back most times.

I must've done that at least 2-3 times a weekend for a couple years. Then, they switched the policy to credit only for games returned, then TRADE IN VALUE credit only.

Needless to say after one return like that, I gave up that routine. But, then again thats because they finally smartened up.
 
My Best Buy (Airport Way, Portland OR) store is run by uptight jerkwads who feel that by any use of the GGC I am somehow reaching into the till myself and making off with all the money in the till. I've had good and bad employees, but one day I tried to use a card that I had purchased earlier in the day and was told that I couldn't, because it could not be used on same day of purchase. Yeah, right.

The manager comes over and says "Oh yeah, he does this all the time," to which I replied, "I have come into this store no more than four times in the last four months, how does this qualify as all the time?"

He frowns at me with a "Don't do this again" look and proceeds to ring up the card/coupon.

I'm totally with Roufuss, putting exact change on it can backfire if you need to return it. At least here in Oregon we don't have to worry about sales tax. At least I put a buck on the card. But I hate to be labeled an abuser when I'm using the very coupon they have for sale, that in no way has any restrictions on it other than it must be used for video games (sometimes computer games, I've noticed that some will ring up automatically and some won't, never mind that some managers think you can use a GGC on sale items, and others won't) that are at least 19.99.

Which reminds me, during the Xbox 360 launch, there was the required line outside of this bestbuy the night before. Before they opened the next day, the store manager came out and told the people in the line that whoever was willing to purchase a bundle would get preference over people that were not. Yeah, that pissed off people enough that the state attorney general began to investigate them. Nothing yet on that action in the news though. Probably because it just affects us gamers.
 
I've been buying two or three at a time with $5 on them since the GGC was available and I've never had a problem. I've also found an easy way to dispose of them is to use them online for $10 clearance games.

me: Look at the wall, it says it as clear as day... (i ask one of the other employees if I am just a blind dumbass and she goes "no, the manager is just wrong")

her: fine, ill price adjust.... but you have to understand youre getting a hell of a deal and I really shouldnt be doing this since its against corporate policy.

me (after receiving my money back on my credit card, speaking to the other employees working service desk): you should really apply for the manager position since your current one obviously doesnt know two shits about your policies/trying to lie to me about a policy not existing that is in clear site right next to me is just wrong....

Well I never abused the EB policy because at most I took 2 games back that I felt wasn't right for me to pay $50 for each considering how short they were. The games in question were "Onimusha" and "The Bouncer".

Because if I have to return a game, I want my money back, not a gift card. I learned that lesson awhile ago, I returned 3 games, and got my money back for one and the other two (around $35 dollars) on a stupid gift card (because I put the full amount on the card), so I had to spend my money there.

I save the .01 gift cards for penny guides to really screw the store over.

So you do it to screw the store over and make them take extra time to go through the cards even though they have so little on them?

Yeah, they were on to me about the penny guides at one Best Buy for a while - they remembered me instantly. And at CC I was known as "price adjust guy" when I kept adjusting receipts for those clearance games back in Feb-Apr or so. And I don't even wear anything out of the ordinary :D.

I just think it is odd that you have to go through all that to use the GGC. I had never used one before this week when I saw a Castlevania DS at Best Buy. Mostly that's because I've never felt the need to pay full price cash on a game when I can get them either on clearance or cheaper via trade credit at GR or EB. Obviously, this was a rare exception.

I found a GGC, brought it up front, said I wanted $5 on it but wanted to use the coupon right NOW for the Castlevania game. No problem - in fact, she didn't even remove the coupon, just scanned it. So I still have it for a future purchase :D. But, I suppose, YMMV on that type of experience :rofl:.
 
First off I don't get why any BB employee would give a damn. The gift cards are set up to work the way they do. It doesn't say you have to put a minimum on the card. It doesn't say that you can't use the coupon the same day you buy the gift card. I've only used the GGC once ever but I don't even think that it says that you can't use multiples of the coupon in a day (if you bought multiple gift cards). So...how can the managers refuse you?

Price adjusting actually wastes employees' time and is annoying as hell. But that is perfectly acceptable under the system BB has set up. They can't really refuse you. If they do you can raise a stink and get the idiots in trouble.

fuck bestbuy! I just went in today and rummaged through there back to school coupons(per the method shown on fatwallet) for the 30% off copies. Got my self a 7600gt OC for $130 originally priced $250. If anything we should have a national CAG holiday where EVERYONE goes into BB and gets $50 worth of penny gamer gift cards.

If I can manage to find one in the store, I take it up to the cashier, say I want to put 5 bucks on it, pay for it, put the receipt away, and then hand the cashier what I want to purchase, hand them the coupon, and then hand them the gift card as part of payment. A smile, a "Thanks much" and I'm on my way.

I've done this plenty of times. The customer service seniors have seen it and one even commented that he should start doing it. (Most notably after the Xbox 360 Marketplace Points no longer required an override.)

My biggest problem is usually finding a store in my area that has the GGC in stock. I've got 4 Best Buys pretty much on my way home from work, and another 2 fairly close. Usually only one of the 6 have any in stock.

And, yes, I am practically on a first name basis with a few different cashiers and some of the Media staff. Same for EB, GameStop, Circuit City, TRU, and Target. But then again, a six foot tall female gamer isn't the norm... ;)

Same thing here for me, though I've seen one BB with the GGC gift card behind the CS counter for some odd reason. :whistle2:s Should making getting one of those an interesting experience.

And yes, I'd wager that 6' tall female gamers are a bit of a stand-out at BB. ;)

Wow flashback..yeah babbages..ahhaa...same boat here...used to have EB & babbages in the same mall..you could buy from one for 20 bucks and return it within 5 min down the hall at the other for 60 or 70...it was soo funny....i also remember reason for returning,filled in:didnt like. Those were the days.... never got zapped on a sticker,you got sloppy and got burned...lol. I remember when they went to 14 days then 7 days return policy......now its super strick, oh well between all the deals through the years I cant even fathom how much ive saved
