I have an unopened copy of Fallout 3 GOTY for my PS3

Should I try to exchange it somewhere for the 360 version? I have heard that the PS3 version is full of bugs and nearly unplayable.

I don't have a receipt because it was a gift..

What are my options.

In terms of options, the problems you have will vary. I've never had any real issues with Fallout 3 on my PS3. Others have had big issues. It's weird like that. I've talked to people who have had big issues on PC and 360. And others do not. It is sort of the Fallout 3 way... supposed to be worse on PS3... but again, works fine for me.

Try to exchange it if you feel the need. Good luck regardless. :)

I dont know where you hear such things, I have the PS3 GoTY and have played through the entire main game including all side quests, Operation Anchorage, Mothership Zeta and about half of Brotherhood of Steel (my savegame says around 75 hours of gameplay) and I have only had the game crash on me five times. I have also experienced a few graphical glitches but nothing that really marred the experience or forced a restart.

That said, if you still are concerned and the stores dont allow you to do an exchange you could always try the CAG Trading Forum. You will probably get more bang for your buck if you do a direct trade in the forum instead of taking it somewhere like a Gamestop.

I've had several issues with the GOTY edition. Everything started off okay but after about 10 hours or so I started to get the occasional freeze here and there. This was right around the time I did the first DLC Operation Anchorage. As the game went on the freezes happened more often. Now at about 30 hours I can't walk more than 5 feet without a hardlock. I am stuck in Point Lookout. Totally unplayable. Of course Bethesda is ignoring the situation so if you have the opportunity I would probably exchange it.

The game played fine for me, but the DLC is so horrible I stopped playing all together constant lock ups. This is on a launch 60 and on my slim PS3. What a shame though I loved this game.

It really just depends on your luck. Some people have been playing with no issues at all, but the majority has these issues. Before the DLC's came out, Fallout ran flawlessly for me, but after the DLC's came out it wouldn't even start a game. I exchanged the vanilla Fallout 3 I had for another used copy and it worked flawlessly again w/ the DLC's.

+1 to Xbox 360. I always get third party games for my Xbox 360 because of reasons like Fallout 3 (or recently Assassin's Creed 2's draw in and poorer graphics to the Xbox 360 version).

Note there is always a way to exchange for the xbox 360 version.

Completely false. Even unopened, you need a receipt.

It depends. I've done it with gifts before without too many hassles (they will log your ID to make sure you aren't doing it constantly) but other times I've been denied. YMMV.

To your credit (or the OPs credit, can't remember his name atm), if all you're trying to do is swap one format for another (not changing the game and/or wanting cash back), you might have a better than average chance.

Just go, politely explain your situation and see if they'll help you out.

All that aside, the PS3 version isn't terrible. I went...

Fallout 3 (360) ----> Fallout 3 (PS3) ----> Fallout 3 GOTY (360) and didn't notice any glaring differences. Fallout 3 on PS3 didn't crash for me at all.
