I just threw up in my SHAQ-FUing MOUTH
The Sonics needed that pick more than any other team. Now, they might actually get to stay in Seattle.
It won't get them an arena built, they've got the worst lease in the history of professional sports. They pretty much have to move. This might even seal the deal on the Oklahoma City Supersonics, they'll have a draw for that new market.
No you're retarded, LOL @ your stupidity and your Celtics though, have fun continuing to suck.
both of you are losers.

I've read a lot about this... getting Durant definitely increases the chances this team stays in Seattle. The reason there was no money from the city before had everything to do with the previous jackass owner.

I love that picture.

The new owner is from Oklahoma City, I think he bought the team just to move it there. The arena can't get built in Seattle because of politics at the state level.
And the Celtics are....? Pierce and Szczerbiak were hurt throughout the season, all they had left on the roster were the kids. When you've got a bunch of kids, you usually finish in last place. Hell, Tony Allen might miss 2 years after what he did to his knee.
dude.. i'd be with you ..but there were times where rivers benched pierce and some of the other starters and started the youngsters...to me that is not actively trying to win games.. you never bench pierce.. now if I'm boston I might trade pierce at this point..

Pierce was hurt even after he came back, he could've played through it if the games mattered, but why risk further injury when you're eliminated? The point where they lost 13 or 15 or however many in a row was when Pierce just got hurt, thats when their season ended.

I'm sure the Celtics weren't the only team that took it easy on an injured starter down the stretch when they were out of the playoff picture.

i think it was either right before or after the all-star game that this happened.. I can't remember...the seasons are way too long...

I did read that too. He obviously wants to bring the Sonics to OKC after the success the Hornets had there. I can't blame him either.

Anyway, from what I've read getting Durant or Oden was about the only thing that *might* save the Sonics from leaving Seattle. No guarantees though. Should be interesting to see how that one plays out.

Personally I'd rather see the Sonics stay in Seattle, don't know why, I just do. Yet I'm also all for the Nets going to Brooklyn.

I wonder if the Grizzlies will be moved (again) soon too.

I don't know why anyone would put a team in Memphis, its not a major media market. Maybe the Sonics moving to OK sets the stage for the Grizzlies to move to Seattle? St. Louis is another major market without an NBA team.

because vancouver was the worst place to put a nba team..much like tampa bay is the worst play to put a baseball team..

I wouldn't say Tampa is the worst place to put a team. I would say, however, that the AL East is the worst place to put a comparatively smaller market expansion team (plus the Rays' stadium sucks).

i wouldn't agree with you if there weren't so many traditionalist and players that don't think baseball needs a salary cap..

Nashville would've made more sense.

St Louis is definitely a city that should have a basketball team, either there or in Kansas City. St Louis along with Pittsburgh confuse me as they have a baseball, football & HOCKEY team and no basketball team anymore. Although I know Pittsburgh has struggled to keep their teams there, so perhaps no sense in adding a basketball team.

Las Vegas has to be in contention for a team too. Maybe San Diego, Cincinnati... I suppose would be towards the bottom of this list of cities.

Pittsburghs can't support a nba team...hell they almost lost the pens... it's not big enough and there aren't many bball fans here.. pretty much you fall into 3 categories in Pittsburgh

1 - Yinzers - Steelers are your main passion, you can give a shit about any of the other teams - 75% of Pittsburgh
2 - blind fans - people who keep supporting the pirates even though the Pirates haven't do anything to get competitive - 15%
3 - all-around - steelers, pirates, pens, pitt - doesn't matter..you are a great fan - 10%

A little late, but still good.

We really should move this convo to the NBA thread though, or have this one merged with that one.

Vegas could support all 4 sports if the leagues weren't afraid of it.

Even Hartford is a bigger market than Memphis. St. Louis could easily support an NBA team, they've got a fairly new arena that can hold 22,000 for basketball, plus they can tap the nearby Kansas City market, for what thats worth.

I dunno about that. I know the city is growing, but I'm not about to spend my time in Vegas going to a sporting event. The citizens might, but even that's a stretch.

I know people that live there... Most of them don't like going to the strip. The casinos don't have the same appeal when you live there.

Its a huge, huge city outside of the strip, lots of residents with lots and lots of disposable income. They've had AAA baseball and used to have minor league hockey, those teams did fairly well. Tourism would be a big factor as well, people would plan their trips to Vegas around when their team is in town. They're actively pursuing an NBA team right now.

Atlanta had a playoff NBA team and a champion IHL team (along with the Calgary Flames). We see how that is turning out for us.

I live in the area with probably the smallest market team in the NBA (thats the Utah Jazz) and you know.. I wish more "small markets" had at least 1 pro team that way you can at least feel good about something.. some markets are flooded with sport entertainment.. like Chicago or NY.. they have like 2 of every team for every sport..

I also don't find it fair that LA gets 2 extra home games a year.. if a team should move its the Clippers..

EDIT: i would also go to Vegas for the 1-2 Jazz games that would happen there..
Nah, it tasted more like "the-Celtics-are-going-to-be-horrible-for-at-least-another-decade" juice.
wait, so who gives a shit about the bucks? The team that was repeatedly bad the past century, and lost because they plaiin sucked rather than throw games to try to get a decent player? Theyre the ones who are screwed.

bogut=bust.. didn't think he was all that when he played here for Utah(utes) at the time I think I would have drafted CP3.. but the jazz got Deron because Atlanta didn't know which was which.
