I live in the worst area ever!

CAGiversary!
I woke up this morning to go to work (my side job of doing deliverys for a gourmet food compay...can't teach during the summer) and guess what...two fucking flats. Both flats where on the same side of my car, and the repair person told me they were both slashed. Now I'm not sure about the rest of you blokes but I drive a fairly awesome car, shit I have/had falken tires...now I have two falkens and some generic bullshit because I could not afford new falkens. I parked much further from my apartment to avoid such bullshit again. I assume its the kids in my area, they always get drunk and break stuff...annoying to no ends. Any advice, I honestly want to catch these kids in the act and get them to pay for everything they have done. Many people in my building speak of random vandalism to their porches, cars and such.

I know exactly how you feel. Saturday night someone chunked a brick threw my dads back window and tried to break out the others. We live in a decent area. Im sure it was just some punk kids with rich parents that have never had to work a day in their lives.

the best thing you can do is videotape them doing it. either sit out there in wait with a camera ( but whose to say when they will strike again) or put a camera in your car or in a surrounding area that links up to your pc. another choice is to have a neighborhood watch meeting of some kind or hook up with some neighbors you know who have had problems with vandals and take turns keeping a lookout. i think you can also call the police about this or contact them and they may send a cop through every so often.

That sucks but thats it two flats? People were murdered up the road from me the other night...

Yeah, slashed tires honestly isnt that bad compared to a million other things that could've happened. The best trick we've done to get vandals to never come near the area again is take a nice quality flashlight (like a sure-fire) and a laser pointer just off from the side of it and light up the person and yell in a loud voice. We haven't seen anybody fuck with our street since. **

**Not very legal, I don't encourage you to do this. This is only for entertainment purposes etc etc.

We get graffiti tags up and down our street. Gang signs, turf tags, and ethinic and racial slurs. On fences, on sidewalks, and utility boxes. New tags go up almost every other week.

Cars are routinely stolen and ditched in our neighborhood. Joy riding is common. My neighbor had his car stolen in the middle of the afternoon; twice they broke into his car.

People race their cars up and down our street. It gets a lot more popular during weekends. We get cars, bikes, and everything loud blasting up and down our street. Oftentimes, they'll circle back and forth.

When police show up, they show up in squads. Typically a minimal of two, but noramlly three squad cars to round up 'suspects' in our neighborhood. Panhandlers are aggressive, and will often approach your vehicles nearly knocking on the windows.

Yowza. He's got you there.
I thought you were gonna say you lived in sub-Saharan Africa or something.
I wasn't going to say that. But I did expect guns and bullets. A person dying or two. This story disappoints on so many levels. Really, sucks that your tires got slashed, but you probably live far from the worst neighbor in your town. Suck it up and have your insurance pay for it.

Actually, I think Liberia is the worst place to live:

How'd you like to look out your window and see that every day?

Why the hell is he wearing a life jacket?!

It's a bootleg bulletproof vest.
In the States, 3 places you don't wanna live in is:

1) Camden, New Jersey
2) Ford heights, IL (The poorest suburb in the Country. Got Carjacked there. Has friends that live there. Don't go there)
3) Joliet, IL.

This is why I'll never, ever pimp my ride. As long as it drives and is all one color, I'm pretty happy.

You're forgetting Gary Indiana. Worse or comparable to Joliet imo.
The last places you want to live downtown are Detroit, Baltimore and Houston. I'm surprised I'm the first to mention them.
Must agree with the Baltimore mention. I'm from Baltimore and I currently live about 10 minutes from it. There are some streets in Baltimore that even the cops won't go down. Just watch the Wire, that's maybe one of the only true to life shows you'll find on tv.

Yeah, Ford Heights sucks.

LoL - for the most part I have it good.

I get annoyed by the little stuff - like this couple in front of me at chipotle who couldn't stop making out in line, and then took 10 minutes to order because they had to have a convo in Spanish about the 10 fuckING ITEMS ON THE MENU. I mean seriously - there are 10 items on the menu - if you don't want a burrito or tacos then get the fuck out of the restaurant!

You could hook up a cheap "surveillance system." Just set up a video camera outside your window/porch and have it pointing out into the parking lot and set it to record while you sleep. It'll stop when you run out of tape (should be approx. 8 hours). Then when you wake up, if you realize something happened (ie- tires slashed), you'll have it on video. If nothing happened, then the next night record over the previous night's tape until something does happen. All you need is a video camera and a blank tape.

I dunno but if I had to move from a nice, sunny island to cold-ass Alaska, I'd be shooting people too.

:D
What the fuck are Polynesian people doing in Alaska?!
Anchorage is weird. There is a large Asian population up there. It's like California, but instead of Mexicans, they have Asians.

What are Europeans doing in Cherokee? Them immigrants is going to take the whole country over!

Maybe I'm ignorant here.. (even though I work OE parts for a living)... wtf are "falken" tires, and are they supposed to be something special?

No one mentions Flint, MI? Parts of Flint are like a demilitarized zone. Saginaw's almost as bad now.

GM's problems in recent years have really hurt this area a lot.

it's even worse if you live in areas near the Mexico Border. lots of illegal activity, many people hostile against united states and people constantly getting shot everyday.
Maybe I'm ignorant here.. (even though I work OE parts for a living)... wtf are "falken" tires, and are they supposed to be something special?
I think they're some sort of street racing tires or something. I see their name sometimes in those tuner magazines.
Cleveland has not been mentioned in this thread. I'm disappointed.
Although Cleveland has its slum areas (as does every major city in the country).. Cleveland isn't overly crime-ridden or downtrodden. Cleveland is really a quite nice city all told.

ill take this one.

Falken Tires are the best all seasonal tire on the market comparable to the Bridgestone Potenza 009s which im running on my mazda 6. Falkens are known to have the best tread life and grip of any tire on the market. They are high in demand and even sears warehouses have a tough time to keep the usual tire sizes eg 17x7 or 16" tires in stock. I had them when i was running my integra and they were great all year round...heavy rain still had alot of grip on the round. Its a very expensive tire just like the bridgestones i have but they are well worth the cost.

Nirvana, that sucks man. I cried when i heard the tires slashed...the only solution i could think of is hooking up an onboard camera and just let it record everynight to catch the culprit. dont ask me how to go hooking up the thing because i dont lol.

PS: Falken is also a big sponser in the tuner world for events like NOPI Nationals and D1 Drift grand prixs. again their tires all around and even slicks are some of the best.

Actually in Anchorage (pop 260,000) there's about 10+% asian. The pacific island community has really swelled lately and brought with them a bunch of problems. The philipinos and hmong seem pretty peacefull, but it seems like all the youth-on-youth violent crime in the past 2 years has been related to Samoans/Pacific Islanders.
Cleveland has not been mentioned in this thread. I'm disappointed.
Cleveland 20+ years ago probably should've been tops on the list. You know, when we were catching bodies of water on fire and such. But now, it's really nice down town. Of course, some areas are kinda rough. My mom does some work with African refugees in downtown Cleveland and those neighborhoods, while not exactly top-notch, aren't anything that I'm scared to be in, or even have my Mom go to on her own.

The rejuvenation of the Flats really helped the whole of Cleveland come up out of its cesspool status.

The worst areas ever:

1.) Detroit, Michigan
2.) Flint, Michigan
3.) HELL (the realm of eternal damnation; not the Michigan village)
3.) HELL (the realm of eternal damnation; not the Michigan village)
LoL - how do you know?

All the pics of heaven are a bunch of whitebread preppies sitting on clouds and strumming on harps.

I'll take hell with the hot-ass naked demon babes and whaling rock guitars!

That doesn't even sound as bad as here. My former roommate has had his first car stolen (cops found it, but apparently the medical papers inside weren't enough to convict the thief) and his second car broken into as he was walking to the parking lot. I know plenty of students and teachers at my school have had problems with theft or attempts at stealing their cars. There was apparently a serial killer roaming one of the main streets (he was named after that street) last fall and I'm sure he wasn't the first killer around here.

I don't feel like I'm constantly in danger around here, but I do try to take the precautions where I can (use the club, park near lights, stay away from bad looking neighborhoods) to prevent what I can prevent.

Where I live there was a shooting at our local mall, three shootings right near me (with helicopters over houses each time), and hundreds of gangs. It is known as the 14th most dangerous U.S. city too. Also the areas you guys meantion are not all bad, there are good sides to them, some cities have nothing but bad aspects.

im in a total suburb area where nothing happens. although we had a chain theft of things stolen in cars...mine was one of them..with my pioneer radio, tire and Jack all stolen when i had my integra, my nieghbors 2000 Civic Ex had its rims jacked using my tire and jack. we were pissed but laughed at the situation. The douchebags got caught because there was a jersey wide APB on them and they decided to take pictures of themselves in public. The camera had pictures of a accident and license plate numbers were on it...the camera matched the description and the cops caught them..i now get a 10 dollar check randomly for restitution. thats the only thing to happen where i live in about 10 years.

I agree with places like Flint, Detroit, and Joliet being on the list. My parents used to (and to the best of my knowledge still won't) refuse to fly into Miami or West Palm Beach, FL. I know that there is some potent gang activity in southern Florida, but I thought most of it was in dealing with drugs.
You're forgetting Gary Indiana. Worse or comparable to Joliet imo.
Indeed. I've driven by and through Gary and it's almost a complete industrial wasteland. Empty factories, storefronts that have been literally decaying for well over a decade, and worse. It's certainly a town I wouldn't go anywhere near during sunset or beyond.

Reminds me of some of the warnings in some neighborhoods around Pittsburgh. It's not as bad as any of the places mentioned in this thread, but there are very good reasons you don't drive around randomly in most outlying suburbs around the city past 7 PM. And if you look like some poor schlub...god help you. You'll probably have a good 40% chance of being on the business end of a semi-automatic.
