I needed a new Dual Shock 2 and Memory Card, and had a $50 gift card from this incident.
Both were $19.99 at BB.

I must say, the cashier wasn't exactly too thrilled to have to deal with this and it was a bit embarassing for a 30 year old man to going to such lengths to save $5 on video game products.

I guess it could have been worse...I could have tried to use 1 coupon on each item. I think the future Mrs. CheapyD would have died of embarassment if I tried to pull that one off.

LOL.

CheapyD 0wNz!

I feel ya. I would've done the same thing...except used both coupons...even if I'd have to leave the store and come back in 8) !

This was your first time using it? Seems odd...I mean, you're the Head Cheapass and all. Haven't you bought a game from Best Buy in the past year? :D

Then again, I still haven't used a GGC myself...

Only online, and those games were less than $19.99.
The Best Buy's in Manhattan have a pretty bad selection.
;)

If I know I'm going to buy something there anyway and I can't find it cheaper elsewhere, you damn well better believe I'll use it, regardless of how much "trouble" the employee finds it.

That $5 is better off in my pocket than in theirs.

Besides, the way I look at it, they've wasted way more than $5 worth of my time in the past when it comes to trying to sell me unnecessary PSP/PRPs and SI/EW subscriptions, so I might as well recoup a little something if I feel the need to shop there.

I agree completely.
the best buy gamer gift card always seemed like more trouble than its worth to me.
Thats because, like me, you live in NYC...the land of where cashiers project the attitude of "im doing you a favor just be ringing up your purchase and you are lucky if I even look at you".

I use the coupons all the time and so far every cashier I've had has just laughed and happily applied the coupon. (Though they have to manually take off the $5 every time LOL)

One cashier was even like, "Yeah man this is a good deal, a lot of people don't know about those coupons."

The 'worst' thing I've done was ask them to let me use the $5 GGC coupon on a price match I did with the EB president's day ad. The CSR didn't even bat an eye. Then I paid the ($15+tax) total with 3 $5 gift cards and some change.

I guess we just have nice cashiers in VA :D

Shoulda did 2 of them for 10 bucks off.
:)

I still havent done the giftcard thing only because i work there and they dont less us use them with our discount. :(

A while back, I tried to save my friend $5 off when buying Nightfire for $14.99...

I had previously put $20 on the card, and since it was his birthday a few days ago, I had to give him a belated birthday gift. I grabbed a copy of Nightfire for $19.99 since he was a James Bond fan and all. So there I was in line, and a cashier called me up. I guess she was also training a guy about cashering as she said things to the guy like what to do and say to customers. I gave her the card, and the game. It rang up for $19.99 and she took the card. The final price was $21.69, and she used the card. I told her to use the card and the $5 coupon, but she must have misinterpretated what I meant and said the final price is $21.69. I felt so stupid to reason with her that I was to paid the tax of $1.69. But then I told her to wait a sec, and grabbed a F-Zero and Donkey Kong Country strategy guide for a penny each. As I left the store my friend then said I should told her to scan the upc coupon code. Well I guess at least the guides made up for it.

I guess I won the battle with the cashier after all.

should just do what i do, walk out of the store with like 4 or 5 gift card cases at a time, they dont care. dont even put anything on them, as a matter of fact, the store manager told me too.
