Ok, so I sold a cd on ebay to a buyer in Canada about 2- 2 1/2 weeks ago. I gave the package to my mom to take to the post office and told her to get the lowest priced shipping, but she didn't know which shipping she purchased or how long it said it would take. She also did not get a DC #. Now the buyer says he has yet to recieve the package and he is complaining to paypal. Is there anyway without the DC to find out where the package is or any other info on it?

there is no DC for international shipping for USPS unless you use global express, which is definitely not the cheapest shipping rate.

The chances are she did airmail. Airmail takes about 2 weeks

She can't find the receipt or something?

Hey man I feel your pain, Im a big seller on ebay. The people go NUTS!!!!!!!! when they notice you dident put tracking or DC on it, I got screwqed once and now all packages I send are with DC#.

A seller said he has not recieved my package, and complain to paypal, and their like with no DC you cant do nothing and have to pay the buyer back even if he is lying. I then ask the buyer has he recieved my package after 2 weeks and I used via priority. He then said if I refund him 30$(he paid me 65$ for the items at close of auction) he will suck up the lose and withdraw the paypal report. So i gave him refund via paypal.

Note: Paypal will basically tell you to suck up the lose and move on(complete 100% refund to Buyer.)

No, the lowest cost shipping is ground, and it can take 4-6 weeks if it doesn't get hung up in customs. Hope you enjoy the negative feedback, and never let anyone else ship things for you unless you give them specific instructions on how to send.

And there is no way to track it either or get DC to international destinations unless its express mail.

By the way, how exactly did your mom go about sending this? USPS should have made her fill out a green customs form, which I'd think she'd remember some of the details from.

If you didn't get the buyer's protection and no delivery confirmation, you are screwed. Paypal will take the money back and you will be out the loss.

Always, always, always get delivery confirmation and buyer's protection. Make sure that its a requirement that the buyer's pay for it. Its really the only way to cover your self with Paypal....otherwise you will get screwed.

The bottom line is that Paypal isn't going to take the loss, so you will. Here's the kicker...the guy could have received the item, noticed no delivery confirmation and decided that he just wanted the money back. Paypal will side with the buyer since you didn't get the DC or buyer's protection and you can't prove that he ever received it.

Sorry.

He couldn't - the package was to Canada. Never use Paypal for international transactions - you expose yourself to a 100% guaranteed loss on any Paypal chargeback/dispute. You can have a video of the person opening the package and you will LOSE. Only accept international postal money orders or Bidpay or whatever, just no paypal outside of the US.

Dave

This is why I never ship to outside the US anymore.

I'd just tell him to give it another couple of weeks and then bite the loss, funny that he's asking paypal for a refund so quickly isn't it?

I think its safe to ship international, and international bidders can boost your auctions a bunch. Just only take international postal money orders, then make insurance mandatory - airmail parcel post allows for insurance.

Dave

I love how two posters mention (correctly) that you can't get DC or tracking to Canada without spending an arm and a leg and somebody still comes in and says that you should always get DC

I'm in the same boat with zion, don't ship outside of the US (even for trades on here).

Though I probably should look into it. The weak dollar means you can make a good bit selling to Europe I'd imagine.
what's buyer's protection ?
Its pretty long and detailed, but the gist is that if you ship to a confirmed address with proof of delivery (ie Delivery or Sig confirmation) you are protected from buyers doing disputes or CC chargeback. I'd go educate yourself at Paypal, as there are a LOT of details about their seller and buyer protection policies that can fuck you if you aren't careful

Dave

i am a power seller on ebay and i will never ship out of the usa. it is impossible to get a confirmed paypal add. therefore even with dc you are screwed. just refund him and hopefully save yourself a negative.

I've been shipping internationally for a year now (almost ALL of my international payments come in via PayPal) and I've yet to get burned. I ship about 5 international packages a WEEK and none have been lost or charged back.

Even if I do get burned, I don't think I'll block international bidders. They increase my sales WAY too much to merit excluding them. As seldom as a chargeback may occur, you should consider it a cost of doing business. I estimate I make an extra $500 a month by allowing international bidders to participate in and bid up/win my auctions. If I were to get a $100 chargeback once a year, would it really make sense to give up the $500 a month?! Doesn't seem like good business to me.

Do you do straight up worldwide shipping, or do you limit it to Europe and the Americas, or something else?

Another reason I don't do international is to avoid having to make a trip to the PO (customs forms)

Agreed. Having a clearly defined T and C section for international bidders in your auctions also deters a lot of would be scammers. At least it weeds out problems - Just today I had someone wanting to BIN but wanted to pay through paypal and find a way to lower the customs form value. After about 5 emails back and forth, I allowed him to pay via paypal, just because its my feeling that a scammer wouldn't go through that much email correspondence to scam me out of a few genny games :)

But for the less intelligent - you cant track international packages without EMS, so if you ever get in a paypal dispute you will LOSE. If that doesn't worry you, ship away.

The delay is probably due to Mother's Day. Try to buy yourself another week and it'll probably get there.

What's EMS? Did a couple searches, but nothing looks likely.

When shipping out of the US, never use USPS. Use Fedex or one of the big shipping companies. It might be a little bit more to ship, but a DC number is included with it and it'll get there a lot quicker. USPS just takes their time when getting packages out of the US. I sent a box of 45 issues of EGM last year to someone in Canada and it took 5 weeks for it to get to them.

Accept money orders as payments, it'll save you from some disputes with Paypal(but make sure they do it in U.S. currency).

The cheapest USPS does with Canada is ground, so the person probably hasn't got it yet. Just tell them that it was shipped the cheapest way and that it takes time to get up there. If they keep their crap up and still want the money back, just leave a "is impatient with international shipping and refuses to wait for package for arrive" feedback with him. That way international shippers will know what the SOB is like.

USPS Express Mail Service. pretty expensive, but you'd have a better shot of winning the lottery than getting one of those lost. It's like a federal emergency when it doesn't arrive on time.

Uh, it depends on what his auction says if he's justified in leaving that comment. I don't think any international buyers expect to get ground shipping when they win an auction - that shit just takes too long, and for a CD airmail would have been maybe .50 more

just had a problem with some japanese bidders winning an auction, clearly stated that i would only ship in the us, so log in to your account, go to my ebay, scroll down on the left side, go to ebay prefrences, youll see seller prefrences, and a little under that buyer requirements, here you can block countries you dont ship to, block buyers with negative scores, block buyers with unpaid items, or block people without paypal. i wish i had looked for this sooner because it would have saved me trouble... now i have to figure out if i can get my fees refunded because of the moron who didnt read my auction description... can anyone help me with that?

Yes. When you file the NPB, list the reason as "seller is not in approved shipping country" or whatever the menu says and you will immediately win the NPB dispute, get your fees back and they get an unpaid item strike.

sweet, thanks

I auctioned off DDR Koniamix and Bust-a-Groove to somebody and sent it USPS media mail. They calimed they never got it and filled a claim. Wether they got it or not I don't know, but I know for damn sure I shipped it. She didn't want insurance or anything else, so once it hit the mail bag it was out of my hands.

It order to be covered under PayPal's Seller Protection Policy you have to ship to a confrimed address and provide tracking information among a few other details. Without that the only way to stop the claim is to convince the other person to close the dispute.
