Look, im sick today and I did this last night. I tried to install xp on a freakin emachines that came with vista.

Vista sucks, no doubt about it. So I really wanted to downgrade.

I installed xp and completely formatted my drive and guess what. Cant get drivers to work. This is some generic motherboard that I cant find out the make or anything.

I need the drivers for the internet and such to work. I know that it is a nvidia chipset (6150SE I think)But I cant get the drivers for XP.

Am I SOL? Will I have to buy a new mobo? WTF do I need to do?
its a emachines T2530. Please for god sakes dont try to tell me "you get what you pay for" because with some extra parts this thing was great until I had the genius idea to install XP...

I also tried to install vista back but I get fucking errors when I do so.

PLEASE help by telling me what I need to do, not what I should have done.
And if I will have to get a new motherboard(only have about 50 dollars) then will I be able to just plug everything in and go?

edit. I will probably have to upgrade to a new mobo but need to know what I will need to do for that..

What drivers are you talking about? For your Internet I think you need to install the Ethernet driver. If you are using the on board Ethernet make sure it's enable in the BIOS. You might also need to install something that your ISP provided you.

It was onboard ethernet. So I need the full chipset drivers. But I cant get any of them to work on xp. And I cant install vista/dont want vista.

Chipset doesn't use driver....and be specify exactly what problem you are having. SUCH, ANY, THIS, THAT does not help us understand you.

PS: onboard ethernet doesn't need driver. You just need to turn it on in the BIOS. And any ethernet card you plug into your computer should be automatic recognize by windows xp.

That is not true. Onboard ethernet on MOST new motherboards require you to install the drivers from the included CD. Windows XP do not have compatible drivers for many of the new ethernet cards (such as the gigabit ones).

OP, are you saying the drivers from eMachine's website didn't work for you? The link crystalklear64 provided you should get you somewhere.

Squirrel, your not SOL unless there is something else we are missing. As for downgrading/upgrading to XP, it should not require a new motherboard.

First off, you system, unless I am missing my guess is not a T2530, but a T5230. It is running an Nforce 430, with an integrated 6150. So you need to tackle the problem is two parts, a) the Nforce 430 and then b) the 6150.

A) Here are the latest Windows XP drivers for an Nforce 430, it is a legacy device, so I would not expect to much support but, this will get your onboard systems up.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_nf4_winxp32_8.26_11.09.html

B) Here are the latest drivers, for a 6150 that are Windows XP approved.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_162.18.html

The order is not terribly important, but if it was me, I would install the motherboard drivers before the graphics drivers. Also, take these downloads, burn them to CD or put them on a flashdrive, for future use.

Good luck, PM if you need anymore help, I will see what I can do.

I dont want to switch operating systems.

lol. The irony is thick.

I'm just playing with you. No harm meant by it.

How will I be able to get the drivers for unbunto anyways??
The install CD/DVD will almost certainly have your drivers working straight after the install. Their "out-of-the-box" ethernet driver support is top notch.

Dang DW thanks a lot man. I had tried a couple of 430 drivers earlier but I guess I needed the latest. I still need to get my video drivers set up and my sound set up but atleast ive got the network for now :D
