Everyone knows about the usual suspects, but how about some crap games that get overlooked? I've even broken it down into categories:
Fun arcade games translated horribly -
(worst offenders)
Time Killers (Genesis)
Pit Fighter (SNES)
Captain America and the Avengers (SNES)
Flight sim games for the NES. A system that had no 3-d capabilities and very limited processing power - that didn't stop developers from giving this genre a shot!
Look, real people! Back when digitized graphics came out, there were games that had terrible gameplay, but developers hoped you would be so thrilled at seeing realistic looking images, that you'll be too stunned to notice - or care! Sad thing is, sometimes it worked. Also see the full motion video phenemenon - which graced mid nineties computer games and other systems, but the worst of the worst was always on Sega CD.
(worst offenders)
The Rocketeer - the NES version was quite good, but they made a new version that recycled environments, eliminated all the cool levels, and replaced them with half baked toss ins, all so they could fit the digitized images on the cart.
Home Alone - This could have been good - Trapt for PS2 had a good run with the theme of trapping and maiming people. But not here. They got a few digitized photos, and slapped together a game to showcase how cool these looked. Run around the house, collect valuables, lock them in a safe, before the "Wet Bandits" get you. Succeed, and you're treated to a digitized shot of Mccaulley's famous scream scene (with accompanying digitized scream). Fail, and you get a shot of the Wet Bandits restraining Kevin. People were so much easier to impress back then. . .
Waynes World - Not only do you get the digitized photos like the others, but you also get them in game! Control a dude with a large digitized still of Mike Meyers for a head, and occasionally run into Dana Carvey and other characters from the film, all given the freaky photo head treatment. If you thought the big head codes in NBA Jam (and most other modern sports games) were lame, you need to see this game in action!
