Okay, i'm stressed out because i don't want to get the wrong thing so i need help picking a computer that will be able to run the games i want to play, First off, i wanna play games like Cod4, F2p mmos, And just anything i find that looks interesting.

These are some computers that i have picked out, i need opinions, and if it's not good please show me one that is better for under $1000 because i'm not that good at picking out PCs.

Here are the two i have looked at:

Configure Your Edge™ Z5 - Velocity Micro™

Please give me your opinion or show me a better one,
Also if you give me a link to a better one make sure it isn't on a black friday/cyber monday sale because i'm not able to order it untill December 4th.

Thanks in advance.

I Think i'm gonna go with the one from Velocity Micro, is there anything wrong with the specs that i should know about?

Looking at them both, certainly the cyberpower looks like a better deal specswise, but I think Velocity has a better reputation. The video card for the Velocity is kind of oldish, but besides that, everything looks good.

Another CAG member PM'd me with a dell Dell Studio XPS 7100 with these specs:

Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64Bit, English

AMD Phenom™ II X6 1045T
ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB

6GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz - 4 DIMMS

1TB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache

And it came out to $989.99
Is that a better deal?

I built my own, but I can see why some people don't want to do it.

That is a much better deal then the other two, especially with that video card. I would jump on that.

I agree that this is a better deal than the other two choices. While the cpu isn't as good as a Core i7. The PII X6 cpu's are pretty good. And the gpu is far superior. I think it's a shame that companies stick htpc cards (like the GT430 or HD5450) in a rig and call them gaming machines. The lowest gpu I would ever use for gaming would be a GT240 or HD5670.

The dell is a good deal. It is used though. I also prefer Nvidia cards only because of folding@home (google if you're interested)

I made my own configuration at Cyberpower which I think is better more balanced, only $8 more:

The problem with your config is you spent too much money on a fast processor + X58 platform

For $1000 budget I would go with a P55 platform and only an i5. That way you can get 4gb of memory, a nice GTX 470, a high quality PSU, and Civ 5 for free. My config is actually extremely similar to a tomshardware build:

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/build-a-pc-overclock-components,2735.html

So you can see some gaming benchmarks. But keep in mind they overclock their build so look at the "Current $1000 build" numbers.

Finally, what monitor resolution are you going to connect your new PC to?

+ 1

When I built my first computer 4 years ago a bad part caused an extremely frustrating, troubleshooting and RMA process. I've learned a lot since then, and built 4 computers, but some people would rather not go through the hassle.

I figured I'd bump this thread rather than create another.

I've got a budget of about $700. The PC will mostly be used to play WoW Cataclysm. I know it's cheaper to build yourself, but I'd like my brother to have something he can game on for Christmas and upgrade later. Which of these do you think is the best value?

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7007444&CatId=1886

At this point, I'm leaning toward the iBuyPower from Amazon or the CyberPower from Newegg.

Thanks for the help!

Yeah, I definitely agree that the ones from either Amazon or Newegg is the way to go. It's a tough call besides that, one has a weaker video card, but the other one has a weaker processor. I personally would go with the Newegg one and upgrade the video card later since I don't think either video card is really all that great to game with.

Go for a quad over a dual core system as many console ports seem to need a quad in order to run smoothly these days.

You can blame the lazy programmers for that one !

I actually recommend more of the custom PC's that are built by many of the companies that advertise in PC Gamer. The systems are optimized for gaming. It's sort of semi-custom built, and you really get much more bang for your buck. You can do really well with $700, if you don't factor in the monitor and extras.
