Ok, yeah, so I just got my new widescreen HDtv and when I play movies on it they're all stretched out. I'm playing them on a PS2 at the moment. Can someone help me with this?

Are the movies widescreen? Also, change your title. Your probably trying to be flippant, but it's not funny . . . at all

Sounds like your aspect ratio is wrong. Look in your HDTV's menu and find the options for the picture/aspect ratio.

Good luck!

I wasn't trying to be anything, but I'll change the title if its that upsetting. Geez.

Yes, they're widescreen.

I've been through all the aspect ratios and they're all either streching the picture or not filling the screen.

*EDIT*

Shit, I meant for this to be an edit to my last post. Sorry.

does the ps2 have different ratio aspects? i know the xbox does. try looking through the ps2 menus. good luck!

edit: i own a ps2 but i've never cared or checked to see if it has a widescreen mode hehe.

It has to do with your TVs aspect ratio. Sounds like you're trying to watch a 4:3 DVD on a 16:9 screen. Your two options are a "stretchy" picture or a picture that doesn't fill the screen. There probably isn't another way to do it that will look decent.

your TV should have several preset aspect ratios to choose from (like normal, stretch and so on) Keep it on normal, otherwise everything gets stretched out.

Unless you are running progressive scan on the PS2 (using component cables) the PS2 will not output in widescreen. That's your problem I think. It's outputting in 4:3 and your TV is stretching it.

It's not a 4:3 DVD. When I watched it on my old 4:3 TV, it had black bars on the top and bottom.

He didn't mean the DVD, he means you may be using improper cables. Are you using component?
