I was wondering about that.
Is there a big difference when you switch to Optical Audio Cables? And the 360 doesnt have an Optical Audio port does it?
ALSO, does the Onkyo have two ports for OA? Or do you use a splitter?
Thanks. I switch between my consoles and TV ALOT so I constantly switch. I have the worlds shittiest switcher and they all use the red/white plugs. Its cheap plastic and just switches between my 4 devices (soon 5).
I'm assuming there's some sort of difference when you use Optical Audio Cables. The Onkyo HTIB I described earlier is my first surround sound system ever, and I currently use it for my PS2 (PS3 later), 360 and Wii. The ease of use between switching through consoles is a breeze and it does everything I need it to do.
The 360's optical audio port is located on the component cable plug (the part you plug into the back of the 360), and the PS2's optical audio port is in the back somewhere. The Onkyo does have two ports for optical audio (you won't be needing a splitter), and since the Wii doesn't support optical audio, all you really need is two. In addition, for good measure, the Onkyo system has 3 component video inputs which you could potentially use for the Wii, PS3, and 360.
Optical audio cables aren't a necessity, but it makes connecting everything a hell of a lot easier since you'll only have one cord running from each console (with the exception of the Wii) connecting to the Onkyo receiver.
Oh and if anyone is considering on picking up the Onkyo S590, there's also a
$5 pricegrabber rebate.
