So my gaming has been (and will be till next week) a little slow.

My copy of Wings of the Goddess did show up. So I pop the disc in and fire up the ol' PlayOnline viewer. I register the expansion and go to download the patches. Its been a while since I've played any MMO's regularly, but I've never seen one that requires you to have the subscription (Or in FFXI's case, the content ID) to actually get the updates.

So I reactivate my old one and start downloading the updates. 4 hours.

It says its going to take four hours. So I let it download, verify, and whatever else it feels like.

Around 11 PM, it finishes. I go to load the game and I get the follow error "Failed to Load Expansion Data. New content unavailable".

I completely fucking forgot to install the actual expansion disc, which no doubt would have reduced my download time from 4 hours to the 15 minutes it takes after I installed it properly.

I start it up and it hard freezes the 360.

By this point, I call it a night and will try later.

Later arrives after I get home from work yesterday. Apparently, there's a new patch to download. Though I suspect the patch the previous night didn't actually download properly, hence the freeze.

I start it, delete my old character and start fresh. I'm able to get up to the point where I'm actually put on the server and...you guessed it...hard freeze again.

I've given up on it for now. Maybe after my project is finished up.
 
GAF is fine and dandy, but mostly for the ridiculous amount of information available. Pretty much too big to have any sense of community. Unless you're obnoxious, hilarious, or a statistician, or just plain been around for a few years you tend to not get remembered by anyone.

that place is too hardcore for me.
I still like kickin it with my ggters.

NeoGAF has wayyy too many posts. Keeping up with new posts requires an investment of several hours from me.

Read the prologue of the Mass Effect book last night, pretty cool. How does the game handle this info-dump?
 
Sweet. Can't wait to play that demo. Then I can figure out which platform to buy it for. Too bad there's no PC demo yet. I'm leaning that way becasue it will probably be $40 when it comes out.

I think I'm going to back off here and mainly descend into lurker-ville. I'll still log in, and PMs will be responded to, I just don't think I'm going to be posting much if at all from here on out. Gamestop has it listed as $40 for the PC, so yeah, it'll be $20 cheaper. And if Lost Planet is any indication, it'll look better.

I'm playing KOF XI right now, working on my death squad of Tizoc, Eiji, and Oswald. Just killing time until I practice mah drummin' soon. Not Rock Band, BTW. I'd like to play that game, but it's a little expensive.

The only way to leave the GGT is seppuku. . .

Finally finished Half Life 2 today (on the orange box). Took me four days: 10 hours and 19 minutes of gameplay according to my save file. Spent an hour yesterday on Ep 1 getting through the first couple chapters (got stuck in a room with no idea what to do, finally just reloaded it when I realized the game was failing to load a scripted sequence... which happened many times in Half Life 2 as well).

I'm renting the game (got a free rental from Family Vid), so I only have today left to finish up Episode One and Episode Two.

Good lord the legendary edition Halo helmet is huge. I had never seen the box before and thought it was a little something I could have out, but good lord I'm the nerd king with that thing in my tv room.

Wonder if I can unload this "behind the scenes/extra content" disk.

Tell me about it. I had never seen a legendary edition till I saw one when I was picking me wife up from work. Its roughly the size of a 360 box

I honestly don't blame you one bit man. I am thinking of going the same way myself since I haven't played anything for like a week. I just get off of work get on the net until I go to bed. Rinse and repeat and wasting too much time on the net, and trying to catch up on on the GGT posts is a bitch. Especially when you jump like 8-9 pages a day.. :shock: Anyway take care D and occasionally pop in to let us know how you're doing. You're definitely a cool guy and will be missed.

you stole my thunder, I was going to make a similar post once my Wii deal gets settled. :lol: I was kicking around the idea of requesting a month long ban though, since my will power sucks. put plainly, I'm on here too often and I have a lot of interests that get neglected thanks to my internet...addiction. that includes actual gaming ;)

Yeah, the whole internet addiction can be a huge time sink. I fell victom several years ago, and it happens without really realizing it because the time just skips by.

I've found that short 10-15 minute stints online every 2-4 hrs works just fine with me. I always hit up CAG and usually check the GGT, but I don't read all the posts, just skip to the last page and see if you chaps are talking about anything I think is interesting. Every now-and-then I'll throw out whatever I've been playing. I don't got any of the new-gen consoles, so I can't really weigh in on many of the games that are being discussed anyway. I do enjoy reading all your posts tho and listening to opinions about these games.

So, long live the GGT!
 
On the bright side of GGT things, this thread hasn't even been active for a day yet, and we're about to hit 200 posts. That's gotta be a record.
