I suck at console FPS games. More specifically, PS3 FPS games. I can't aim, I can't strafe, I can't duck, I can't pull the trigger correctly, I can't switch through my guns. I just fucking suck.

This is a problem because I love playing FPS games on my PC, but I feel so helpless when I can't clear the first level of Resistance on easy or even the first 5 minutes of Killzone. It's even worst because a lot of the great games on PS3 that I want to snag are FPS games.

Can someone tell me how they mastered aiming correctly with the dual analogs. Practice makes perfect? Or is it something that one should have at least a handle on right off the bat? If so.. I suck at console FPS games.

I've heard that FPS games on PS3 are not as good as the ones on Xbox? Could be true because I don't completely blow playing Halo with the roomies.

I suck at console FPS games. So bad.

I've noticed if you predominately play on the PC then your console FPS will suffer. If you play primarily on the console then your PC FPS will suffer. It just comes down to what feels natural to you.

id say practice is all you can do or try and modify the controls to something you feel comfy with. i sucked at them too when i first started being i was more into action/platformers but i have to say im pretty good now. best way to get used to a game is to play the single player game a few times and then when youre ready go online and get ready to lose alot in the beginning. over time youll improve.

The PS3 controller is difficult for me to adjust to when playing FPS games. The 360 is better for that style of game, IMO. God I hated Killzone 2's controls.

It takes time stick with it and you'll get better. I'm a old school pc fps guy and I feel your pain as it's night and day control and accuracy wise when you first start playing.

That and the PS3 controller sucks ass, the sticks and triggers are horrible. If you have both consoles and want to use your 360 pad on the ps3 try this: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/blog.php?u=13981

I suck at RTS... So, just stick to what you like doing.

Anyway, $hady that doesn't help. It still FAILs because you have to use the bumps on the 360 controller rather than the triggers. PS3 just FAILS all together on FPS...

I have a Cross battle adapter if you want it too.

I rape on 360, and I used to be really good at CS and other PC FPS back when I played.

I'm decent on PS3, but the controller is ass, so that might be your problem. Also, like everyone else said, practice. If you have just started playing console FPS this generation, that's also part of the problem.

The bumpers aren't that bad. Also, how much are you looking for; I might be interested

I used to be great at PC shooters, but now I can't do it. I can barely do it with the PS control stick layout. I have to have it like the Xbox one, with the left thumbstick above the d-pad. That's what I get for playing too much Halo with no Unreal in between.

Curious what you mean by you have to use bumps? I haven't tested every game obviously but the few I played I was able to make them just like the 360 controls. Which was what I was after since I hated the controller and wanted to play against my PS3 friends. Some of the games wont let you remap buttons so you might run into trouble of not using the actual trigger to shoot but rb/lb instead...

I agree with you about PS3 shooters (and the LOOSE sticks) sucking though lol. I didn't like Killzone and Resistance online they seem rather bland and can't touch COD.

EDIT: oh duh, you mean bumpers not bumps..... Yea some games won't let you remap buttons, I forget what game I tried that was like that and I fired with a bumper instead of the trigger...

I tend to suck on the 360 and ps3 fps also. Hell I'm even getting bad at 3rd person shooters. Just picked up ghost busters for the 360 and suck at hiting things in it. I rather have a shooter on the pc but punkbuster does not work well with vista and the makers of it wont fix it and keep telling me it is on my end when in fact if you look it up their is an issue with it.

Yeah, sorry Bumpers. Now that you mention that some games they don't let you configure the controls it changes my mind. I'll keep it around... and hope the games I do want let you configure it with the triggers.

Thanks

Any other game besides... resistance?

Either way, I can't actually play with a keyboard/mouse anymore... stupid carpel tunnel...

Please... no childish comments. :\

It just takes practice. I play PC FPS (Elite Force, Quake III, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, Sin Episodes), and console FPS (Halo 3, COD4, COD5, Half Life 2).

Simple solution, guys: Dreamgear Shadow Wireless. Buy it. Trust me. Picked one up for $40 hidden away at the local supermarket's games department and it was almost as if a light from heaven was shining down on it with a chorus of angels singing in the background. I've looked all over the place for a 360 style PS3 controller and literally stumbled on one after I gave up hope.

EDIT: Has concave triggers...yep, real triggers! No motion sensing though...understadably, uses a USB dongle. My only issue with it is that the PS3's controller auto-off feature can cause headaches when it turns the controller off, because you have to walk over and bush a button on the dongle to re-sync. Not a problem though, really. Newegg has it for $30. Meijer.com sells them too (I originally found this at a Meijer store).

Trigger add-ons definitely help. But it's the analog placement of the DS3 that irks me. Inline analogs don't have the subconscious separation that offset analogs have. You have better independent control over L/R analogs if they are not parallel to eachother, plus it's just better ergonomically (the Shadow controller solves both of these problems). Ergonomics are the one thing Sony seems to have totally forgotten. PSP Go functions as Exhibit A.

I guess I'm not the only person having problems.

I went to play more Resistance for a while. And yeah, I still suck, but I got further in the first mission than I did before. Not much of an achievement.. but I suppose I'll stick with it.

Poop.

[quote name='VipFREAK']The problem isn't so much the controller... it's that the damn configurations don't allow you to use the R/L 2 buttons... I have Real trigger add-ons which might make it better, but I can't even try it...

I saw those at my local Gamestop earlier today sitting on the counter. Started to pick up a pair but held off. I'll probably pick some up next time I'm in the area.
