You know.. Dance Dance Revolution and its millions of forms.. I knew my cousin was huge into it (which is odd, since he was a pale skinny kid to begin with, so it's not like he's doing it to lose weight).. I went over his house after graduation yesterday and he had something on his PC called "Stepmania" where he uses the arrow keys for DDR.. now that, I can live with.. not to mention that I downloaded a 'Video Game Remix' pack, which included original themes and remixes from Chrono Trigger, Castlevania, MGS2, Parasite Eve, Mario, Mega Man, etc..

So tell me.. is DDR this much fun on the consoles? Stepmania is pretty much DDR on the PC.. if it's this fun, i'll consider getting.. well, probably not DDR for the consoles, since you really can't customize it the way you can on PC.. is there a pad for the PC? Will the console pads work on the PC? (I figure if the PS2's connects through USB it should be able to connect to the computer)..

Gah, so i'm hooked. I'm downloading a holy ton of song packs right now.. is anyone else hooked or trying to avoid the trend?

I'm still fighting the urge. So many people play it, and at the mall on weekends the line to play it huge, but I'm still fighting.

For I have the power.

Yeah, you can use a pad on the PC with the help of a ps2 to usb adapter. At one time I bought the adapter to do the exact same thing you're wanting to do.

stepmania has some crazy ass button combos that i don't think you could ever pull off on a dance pad, unless you have 4 legs

This game will take over my life. I can feel it.

I started out fast with Parasite Eve and got murdered. I went over to Halo and aced it.. just takes practice, I guess. My cousin's crazy with it, he had a 208 combo on Parasite Eve going, and that song is insanely fast..

Maybe you missed the CAG picture thread but Scorch is a giant spider. A "brown recluse" spider if I recall.

omggg that is CRAZY..WTF?!?

And I have a question to everyone: Why is everyone "fighting the urge" and not wanting to play...cuz it's 'trend'? That's silly. You should try it--if you like it, then you do. If not, then at least you can say "Hey at least I tried it". It's an insane game :(

I've got a XB to USB adapter, think that'd do the trick? Are there any specific XBox pads out there?

I always saw the same dumb looking kids in Aladdin's Castle (Namco sponsored arcade) in my lcoal mall back in Illinois playing this. I had never tried it myself, not being able to dance and thinking the game looked dumb. I ended up trying a knockoff at this arcade in Georgia, and I hated it.

In September of last year, I got Donkey Konga. I never realized before that how well my loves for music and games could blended together. I also saw several devoted friends playing in arcades, and it was an incredible site.

I got my Xbox in November, and in February, a couple weeks after getting live, I bought DDR Ultramix 2. DDR is very fun, but you must practice a ton to be any good. Unfortunately, sleepiness, business, laziness, and playing a bunch of other Live games has prevented me from putting much time into DDR, but I plan on playing it more and getting good at it soon. It's definitely addicting, and that may be part of the reason I'm somewhat avoiding it.

My wife and I play DDR Ultramix 2 for Xbox, and we love it. We've had a couple of parties and our guests always enjoy playing it, too. Xbox Live has some dl content for the game, too, but they're $5.99 for 5 songs.

Just stick with Stepmania, and get a ps2->USB converter for a pad. There's many more PS1/2 pads out there, especially if you get really good and dedicated and you want to get a hard pad. If your computer/laptop has s-video output, you can hook stepmania up to the tv and get something sick going.

Like so.

The console games are pretty hit-or-miss when it comes to song selection. Keep your eye on www.ddruk.com for official song packs when they get back online.

And stay motivated! Don't stop until you can pass every song on heavy, and even then, don't stop! The world of DDR is a good one, don't let any bad reputations get in your way.

Might want to check out Beatmania and Guitar Heroes when they get released in the US too.
im not gay, but this guy can give me a hand job
Dude, I'd be afraid he'd wear my pecker down to a tiny nub. Well... a tinier nub.

When you buy a PS2->USB converter, make sure it will work with Stepmania. Some won't let you hit the left and right arrows at the same time. A quick Google search should bring up a lot of recommendations.

For a dance pad, try to at least get one with foam inserts. As you get better and move up to heavy, you'll find it's extremely hard to do the songs on a soft pad. That's when you have to either start playing in the arcade or buy a metal pad (which can get really expense). If you get really hooked, you can drop $340 on a Cobalt Flux pad.

Could you point me in the direction of these kickass remixes?

I was looking on their site but it's like navigating blind through an ocean of spam.
I seriously doubt that it real. It's like the insane SMB3 video that was floating around a few months back...
Maybe, I'm pretty sure theres a setting that makes it easier to hit perfect steps. Although I wouldn't be surprised if its true, the step patterns were pretty simple, it was just that the song was really fast.

Off-topic i know but, can sumone prove to me how that SMB3 video is a fake?

the thing about ddr is you wont be good at it the first time. so people try it, fail, and say it is stupid and never play it again. once you get good at it though it is very addicting and challenging.

I can't wait for Guitar Heroes. I love the idea and it looks like it is really going to be the game to beat. (beatmania is also awesome and if the controller is not an assload I will definately pick it up).

and if you are looking for an Xbox adaptor that works, check play-asia. the joybox 10/11 work (though make for sure at stepmania.com, I just ordered one a week ago and I am pretty sure that is the name of the one I ordered).
