I was able to get tickets to an early screening and let me just say the movie is fantastic. Also I have to tell you please try to avoid spoilers for this movie before you see it. I knew very few plot points about the movie going in and loved it that way. There is so much lite humor in the movie that it really makes the movie enjoyable.

It feels like this movie was made in the 80’s after the original superman movies and just has modern CGI. I like that, but some people seem to find this distracting. Also the movie is a bit long, it didn’t really feel like a super long movie, but you are aware of it. And it’s so far beyond xmen 3 it’s crazy. And I liked xmen 3.

You should really try to see this opening day so that you can watch it in a packed house and hear the people cheering for superman when he does something heroic. No I don’t work for WB but I just have to tell you this movie is that damn good. Believe the hype. .

I’m not sure where it stands in my top 10 super hero movies. I’m sure I’ll have to watch it a few times before I decide how it stacks up. But I have no doubt I will watch it again and get the DVD when it comes out.

If you have any questions let me know.
The question I want to know is it worth watching in 3-D?
Is the IMAX version in 3d ? I may be willing to see the movie in IMAX format, but I don't think 3d will really add anything to it. I think you should see it normal then see if 3d would be worth it to you.

From what I read about the Imax version, it only has like 20 minutes in 3D because it was too time consuming or something like that. I'm probably just going to watch it in a regular theater. For me to go to an Imax I'd have to drive into the city then pay for parking on top of the extra $3 for the ticket.

I will be watching it on Imax on Wednesday. I will probably see it on a regular screen as well later. This is really the only movie I want to watch this summer so it will be worth it.

I think they will have it in both normal imax and 3-D.

Hmm... I just read that only 20 minutes worth of footage will be in 3-D. Maybe it isn't worth the extra drive/money.

There are both regular and 3-d Imax prints of Superman.
The 20 or so minutes of 3-d where hand picked by Singer himself, so apparently only the best parts are in 3-d.

I'll be seeing it at the midnight showing on Tuesday so I can get the comics ready for Wed. and get some (very little) sleep.

OP were you a superman fan going into the screening?
I don't hate superman. I only really like the movies from the 80's to be honest. But I still want to see this one. I might catch the bus to the Imax (don't want to drive 30 mins) to see it one day when I have nothing to do.

I'll be seeing when it comes out... got myself some free movie tickets.

I can't wait, Superman II is still bad ass to this day.
That MOVIE looks like it might be a really good MOVIE. If you're into those kind of MOVIES.
What the fuck are you talking about?
The two trailers I saw looked like shit. Poor effects, poor acting, poor dialogue. I'm very wary about this movie.
this is why we've never had a woman president.

Yeah, I have free movie tickets too. But I still think they miscasted the characters except for Spacey.

I have heard that supposeldy the plot revolves around Lex trying to make his own continent. Which alone sounds so goofy stupid I'd like to see how they handle it in the film.

Wow, I'm greatly encouraged.

I have to say, from the trailers I have been very concerned that this movie was going to suck. Superman is definitely my favorite of the superheroes. Thanks for the early review (and thanks everyone for keeping the spoilers out of it).
That's not a very good plan. He should stick to taking cakes.

So, this just proves my theory: X3 would have been awesome if Singer had directed it and been given the script and budget he needed.

What's a villian to do after Supes gave all our Hostess Cakes to aliens in exchange for sparing the earth.

Superman surrendered our Hostess Cakes? Now I remember why he's such a dick.

caught Kevin Spacey's interview on Jay Leno the other night. Spacey said 'Returns' takes place right after parts I & II; and they just ignored III & IV. Sounded good to me.

Not only that, because he basacially think we're all ass backwards except for our Hostess cakes, which is the one technologically advanced thing Earth has made according to Superman.

Then he bills himself for the cakes, too? He's fucking Superman, he should have told that clerk to shut up, at least he's not getting destroyed. With friends like Superman who are going to bill you for thousands of Hostess cakes who really needs enemies? How the hell is he going to explain to anyone why he's getting billed for all these Hostess cakes?

Superman is like the guy who gets up to use the bathroom every time the check comes at a restaurant and leaves you to pay it.
Yep, Spidey 3 trailer is attached to Superman. GF watched it at her theater last night...NOT FAIR!!!
Huh? Spidey 3 trailer already out!!? Best news today!

I was a comic fan in the 90s. But I was more of a Marvel fan and I like Batman comics more the superman comics. But I have enjoyed some episodes of smallville but I've only maybe ever owned 15 superman comics. I'm not the kind of superman nut who has a tatoo or wears a T-shrit of the big S. But there where plenty of the those there are the screening.

Also I loved the first superman movie. I haven't watched the 80's superman movies completely because I hear they stink and I hate to waist my time on a movie I know will suck.
I hear the Spider-Man 3 trailer is attached? Is that correct?
No Spiderman trailer at my screening. There was only one trailer and it was that Mermaid movie by M Night Shamalan.

Admiarl Ackbar I can tell you if your correct or not. But let just say Lex does have a land scheem like in Superman part 1.

if anyone remembers that movie SUPERGIRL, the part where that which gets the omega hedrom moves it around the car and the radio says something about Superman going millions of miles away on some mission in space? Well that would explain it. Superman went away, Supergirl came , got her ball and went back home, then years later superman came back (superman returns). 3 and 4 are ignored.
Spiderman 3 trailer!

Edit: Hrm...is it fake?
looks fake, as it looks like they recycled some old footage from the first movie, changed the color of the green goblin to a yellowish tint from the scene in the first movie where they first fight. Trailers tend to recycle old footage from the first movies on "early trailers"...the Venom stuff...hmmm could be faked but with all that compression hard to say...

The trailer was VERY new. They werent even sure it was going to make it on Superman. The only reason my GF saw it is because her theater will be having the Detroit premiere and they needed to DL the digital print to make sure it worked.

...of course, im trying my hardest to see an after hours screening...
The two trailers I saw looked like shit. Poor effects, poor acting, poor dialogue. I'm very wary about this movie.
I dunno about poor effects because the plane and the bullet into the eye look cool but I'd agree on poor dialogue and poor acting. The "what is that? a bird, a plane" and then Clark enters just looks horribly cheesy. Also the scene where Lex is getting Lois to say he'll stop you and Spacey yells out wrong looks pretty lame too. Those 2 scenes are pretty much the only part of the acting and dialog we get to see from the previews but they look pretty bad.

The only special effect that I've seen that looks bad is the scene with Lois and Superman on the top of the Daily Planet where he lowers himself down feet first. I don't know why but it just looks off and unnatural the way he comes down. That reminds me though, the cheesy look that they give each other when he's standing there is another one of those bad acting moments.

I dunno maybe there's some better scenes but I just turned down midnight showing with my friends because I just don't feel like seeing it, especially at full price.

for those who saw it already, was there a dedication before the movie started to Christopher Reed and his wife like the director SAID he would have a dedication infront of the movie?

I know there was one in the credits, it was pretty big and kinda hard to miss. The people Clapped at it when I saw it.

yes it is confirmed, its on the credits, :( but atleast its there.

i had a crappy crowd mostly of highschoolers and college kids.

I think im the ONLY on in that screening that noticed and enjoyed his final flyby the camera over earth scene to pay homage to the movies. it put a big smile on my face when i saw that. Only two people clapped at the end. Good movie though.

not interested in this at all - superman is lame.

best day of my comic geek life was when i read batman dkr and watched bruce kick the living crap out of clark.

worst day of my comic geek life was watching superman come back from the dead in the worst costume ever.

See, that's what I don't understand. Superman comics have been selling well forever basically and yet I don't know anyone who actually likes him. I have DKR and haven't read it but now that I know that scene happens, I'll be reading this afternoon.

well basically, there's a huge old fan base and the comics draw a strong fanboy market.

i have read a new superhero comic in five years - and DKR is the only thing that really stands out in my mind, and it pales in comparison to Watchmen.

Those are really the only two superhero comics that have lingered with me.

but DKR is fucking awesome.
