I got an email from expedia saying my name has been drawn and that i won 1/4 adventure trips. Did anyone else get this or I really won? I found out that I got in the contest when i registered in the 1 in 6 wins promotion and i probably will turn it out down because i don't want to go on a vacation right now

You did not win, it was a scam. Do not reply to them because they will ask for personal information and then you will be a victim of ID theft.

Really!?

If you don't want to go on the trip, ask them for a cash equivalent if possible. If that doesn't work out, give it to one of the CAGs or a relative and let them pay the taxes on the prize :)

Definitely ask for cash instead, although it would probably say in the rules whether that is allowed or not.

If it isn't, I'd really recommend going. How often would you be able to take a trip like that?!

Congrats dude!

But seriously, don't throw something like that away. I am sure you could find someone who wants to go to one of those places. I would love to go but I can't really afford a vacation right now.
Go on it. You will regret it for the rest of your life if you turn it down
I agree wholeheartedly. Good job winning and enjoy :D

Just for the sake of quantity I'm going to chime in that you should definitely go. The taxes are going to cost nothing next to what you would have to pay if you ever decide later to go, especially with how the costs of these trips are going up and up, usually much faster than inflation.

Unless you make good money, ala $75,000+ a year and can afford your own holiday, take it. It's almost a free vacation except for the taxes. There probably isn't a firm date of when you have to go, so you probably have a choice of when the trip will be, no reason not to go.

If you seriously won this, do not "give" it to someone. A free trip to Egypt is a once-in-a-lifetime thing, I agree with some of the other guys, find a way to take that trip. Unless you're really strapped for cash, in that case, take the cash equivalent if that's possible.

Or if you wanna be super awesome, do a raffle on here and randomly give it to a fellow CAG.

you only won a quarter of a trip? what the hell is that? transportation to the airport is free but you have to buy the airfare both ways and hotel fees?

I think your all being taken and falling for it hook line sinker and everything else he throws at you. Think people, I really don't want a vacation at this time? I'm just going to turn it down.

If I won, my family would be clawing down the door to go, if I said I won, but didn't want to use it.

Think before typing people, makes things go much smoother.

According to the promos website the drawing won't be until after 07-31. Also the value for the trips are all under $3000 so taxes on that are nothing. Also since the OP is clearly being scammed or lying who cares.

Oddly enough, as I read this, I am drinking a bottle of Dr. Pepper, and read the label.

Game ends 11:59 PM PST 7/31/08

It's great to see a CAGer win one of these things. It sort of gives us hope that we might win one of these 1 in a million contests sometime. Anyways, congrats.

Ok, I have some experience with this and I don't like to brag but I recently won a Wii from Nintendo Power. The email will likely say "potential" winner, don't let that throw you off, you have been picked as the winner. There will probably be instructions and you will have to follow up with them either responding to email, calling them or some other thing. If you have entered your phone number in the contest form look for a call from the sponsors soon. I understand that some contests are email only which makes it hard to differentiate from a scam since you have to respond to the email or else they pick someone else as the winner. They will also have to send an affidavit of some kind, and you will most likely have to get it notarized so be prepared to do that. The affy's usually come snail mail but sometimes they can come in email although its rare. There should also be email/fax information at the end of the email for someone from the sponsor, and the email should be in plain text but not necessarily. If none of this is happening then its probably a scam.
