Iced Earth - any good?

CAGiversary!
I've noticed the band Iced Earth always have cool, Iron Maiden style album cover arts, but never got a chance to hear their music. Even heavy metal stations, online or on the air, do not play their music.

Can anyone describe what they sound like before I decide if I should check out their music?

Yep, nice Mercyful Fate avatar by the way. Iced Earth is killer, and I hate Iron Maiden SO MUCH. Check out Something Wicked this Way Comes, it's top-notch.

Thanks for the info guys, I didn't even know they hail from Florida. From the band's name I thought they were a Scandinavian band.

I was looking at their "Tribute to the Gods" CD the other day. Would that be a good starter album for the band?

Been ages since I listened to "Don't Break the Oath", just pulled the CD out again last night. Classic stuff.

From what I heard, DONT GET IT.

Is that the original issue of Burnt Offerings or the re-recording with their new vocalist?

How is their new album, the one featuring a battle scene between North & South on the cover? The Germany import deluxe edition looks really nice.

It's the origional, with Matt on vocals. The reissue is $12. Yeah it's called Gettysburg. and the song I like off of it that I've heard is The Beckoning(Reckoning?)
