ICO - How worthwhile is the game?

Since we're comparing: I felt the horse from SoTC was much more annoying than the girl from Ico ever was.

Also: having played Ico made SoTC so much more fulfilling story-wise. I couldn't imagine playing through SoTC and feeling the way I did about it if I hadn't played Ico first.

ICO is great - just don't play it on anything other than a tube though - 19" or smaller. It is UGLY when you try to play it on a 42" plasma...

ICO gets alot of praise because of when it came out. You weren't gonna get anything like it when the PS2 released. Other games have done certain aspects better (RE4 was a better escort mission type game) but ICO was a great adventure that showed off the PS2 better than any other launch game.

Even though there wasn't any talking you felt a connection between the two characters. It's an adventure game with a heart.
PS: Ico does not sell for $100 sealed. A cursory glance at Ebay shows it still hovering a little above what the prices were when I bought mine about a year ago. $30 for mint, $50 for sealed.

It was going for about Ebay $20 when I bought mine, which I snagged for $15 from a local store.
his copy goes for $100, not everyone else's.

I played it on my Sony 50" LCD rear projection. It looked great.

The game does run in 240p, though, so if your scaler in your TV is low quality, it will probably look like ass.

I own about 20 PS2 games, and most of them, despite being great games, didn't hold my attention long enough for me to finish them or get past that one really frustrating part.

I bought ICO sometime last year, and it's the only game on the PS2 to date that has really drawn me in and made me addicted. I just HAD to keep on playing it. In my opinion, it's the best game on the PS2 and one of the best games of the past 10 years.

I didn't think the fighting was bad at all, it was spaced out enough to fit in with the game and caused a little bit of tension that wasn't present throughout the rest of the game.

It's the only PS2 game I regret selling after finishing; I assumed I would never want to play it again since I knew how to solve the puzzles, but I already want to play it a second time around.

I didn't like Shadow of the Colossus, simply because I'm a picky bastard when it comes to framerates, camera, and responsive controls, all of which were problems with this game. I would definitely give it another chance, though.

Maybe some parts are worse, but so far (I'm playing it now), I haven't seen any obvious framerate problems, and the controls are good. No problems with the controls at all. They seem plenty responsive. Camera hasn't been a problem either.

Ebay prices for it make me wish that I bought the 4 or 5 remaining copies that Walmart had when I bought mine for $15 brand new a few years ago.

One of the best games I've ever played without a doubt.

I can see why people thought it was overrated though, the GTA generation demands non-stop combat and fast paced gameplay.

It's the type of game for a person that wants a beautiful adventure with environmental puzzles mixed in. If you want a combat driven game or just plain fast, non-stop action...well....look elsewhere like SoTC.

I liked SoTC a little better, but comparing them is kinda idiotic for the fact that they're both very different games gameplay wise. They only share a similar art style and developer.

I don't know how far you are but there are definitely times when the camera sucked for me in that game. Nonetheless, SotC is still an awesome game. It was great to have an experience that no other form of media can deliver; I love games that effectively capture that cinematic feel, but Shadow of the Colossus, and Ico for that matter, are only possible through the medium of video games.

Ico is one of the few games that, every year or so, I pop it in for a playthrough.

T o me, I love the castle, I love the puzzles. I thought the fighting was good enough (a weaker portion of the game). I thought it was everything that Tomb Raider should have evolved into at the time.

In fairness, I don't think it's overrated. This is a 8 year old game (came out in 2001). So, obviously, if you have no experience with the game, the graphics won't wow you like they would have. Also, many of the things that were new with it don't feel as new anymore (it's like watching the Matrix now for the first time and saying, well, the slow mo bullet is so boring now. True, but it wasn't when they invented it).

Personally, I think it's a great game, and it'll forever be a part of my collection. I would say give it a try if you are looking for the adventure/puzzle of a game. But, try to remember what graphics were 7 years ago, so you aren't comparing it to games that came out years later.

Ico is wonderful. The graphics, environments and flow of the game all add to a very unique experience. The gameplay is tame and from description sounds rather dull. However it somehow transcends the idea of a game.. it's more like an immersive interactive experience. (cue guffaws)

I heard lots of hype when I played it years after its launch, and it did not dissapoint at all. Truly inspired game. Looking forward to playing it again, this time with S-Video instead of composite :)
