Go ahead and post idiotic state and local laws. I'll start the ball rolling:

Weston is no place for getting down on the dance floor.

The city has no nightclubs or dance halls and, thanks to a new ordinance, it never will.

The commission specifically banned those kinds of businesses, and skating rinks, to prevent a temporary rink from being used conceal a nightclub or dance hall, said City Manager John Flint.

Does anyone else think it's kind of surprising that the US government can ban dance clubs of any kind?

I know it's not free speech or anything, but it does seem Puritanical to me.

Edit: Thought this thread title would be more interesting. Thx for the idea guys.

A government within the US is not the US government.

Eh - I believe localities can't violate state law which in turn can't violate federal law.

This is happening in the US. It's not some Islamic law nonsense or Chinese govt crackdown - this is happening in the US.

Government can regulate whatever the hell it wants as long as such regulation isn't prohibited by the Constitution. As far as I know, clubs and ice skating rinks aren't constitutionally protected.

Is it absurd? A little. Don't like it? Vote your city counsel out of office and elect someone with a platform to allow for dance clubs. Representative government at work.

Oppression at the local level.

I wish Paul would just come out and say the union should be dissolved, I honestly think that's what he's ultimately getting at. Even if ti isn't, it would be the greatest realization of his vision. No federal government to "oppress" people, just each state doing the same.
