If I could have only one thing for Christmas it would be General Gaming Thread #18

Sure, this probably doesn't belong here exactly, and yes, this exact thing is posted in both of the Rock Band threads, but I'm pretty desperate for some opinions and thoughts.

One of my dogs chewed the connector for the kick pedal. I basically see two options and I'm wondering which is the best. When I bought Rock Band at Best Buy, I opted for their 2-year service plan. Yes, I know the Rock Band box shipped with that flyer stating not to go through retailers for replacements, but this might actually work out.

During the process of going through the forms and such for replacing my guitar (bad strum bar, of course), I remember reading that they would only replace components that were either genuinely faulty or broke due to normal usage conditions. I'm sure dog teeth don't apply. I know I can just get a replacement pedal sent to me anyway, but I'm afraid they will end up charging me for the replacement after they get my destroyed one back.

So, my options are either take advantage of the BB service plan (which EA says not to do) or take my chances with EA and hope they feel generous. What would you do?

Regardless, I am getting the replacement pedal sent to me through the EA site since I can always just return the new pedal with presumably no problems.

I need to post my November haul, it is rather epic, though not nearly as MarkMan's...

And there are still about 6 things I want, which is pretty bad.
Played more ME last night. This is game is just so addictive, I just want to keep playing. I was pretty tired, but I couldn't stop--everytime I wanted to save and quit, I kept saying "ah just a little further" or "ah, lemme talk to one more person".

I'm
at Peak 15 trying to get to the Magistrate
.
That's where I was!
Geez, I should have picked a different planet first. I'm almost to the Magistrate though, so it's not too bad anymore.

Anyway, I traded my copy of Persona 3, Odin Sphere, and Jump Ultimate Stars for Strell's PSP. I REALLY wanna play Persona 3 again, should I possibly wait for Fes, or just go out and buy Persona 3 now?
I need to jump back into mass effect tonight. maybe after I read Brave New World (Not by choice...)
Thats a great book, I don't know why you wouldn't enjoy it. I know lots of people who aren't scifi fans and loved that book. One of the top scifi books of all time.
Question: If you are playing import games on a Japanese PS2, can you just plug in your U.S. memory card and save or will that be a problem?
I save Japanese PS2 games on my US PS2/memory card.

Hmm...you may have a problem though because of hardware incompatibility, so I guess I can't answer your question.

Dammit DMK, I've known you by your Micaiah avatar more-or-less since I arrived on this site, and you go and change it. Now I always get confused when I see whatever-the-fuck it is that you're using for an avatar now.
Anything worthwhile coming out for the rest of the year?
People might tell you UT3 (PS3), I won't be one of those people.

Yeah CoD4 is all I need in an FPS right now and probably for awhile to come.

Plus my PS3 can't connect to the internet at my school, even though my 360 can.

Someone actually asked me about that earlier. I'll probably switch it out, since its too early to start a hype wagon with no U.S. release date or U.S. title.

Thats one of the characters from Vanillaware's 2D action game for Wii, Oboro Muramasa Youtouden

That game actually looks sick.

Ah, right, right. The only thing I know about that game is that "those guys made Odin Sphere".

The only thing I know about Odin Sphere is that your HP can level up. And that's thanks to Penny Arcade.

Is it? I just started it, I'm 17 pages in, then I have to summarize. I'd just rather be playing Mass Effect. All I need to read is to page 17 by tomorrow, by 34 by Wednesday, etc. Maybe I'll enjoy it later one.
I didn't like 1984... I actually just stopped reading it about half way in

Oh Gunm, what squad are you using on Peak 15, by the way?

Wha? 1984 is one of my favorites.

Played a little more Mario 64 today. Last week of school (woot!).

Been playing a little X-men vs. Street Fighter (arcade) over the last couple days. That game seriously never gets old.
Also, thanks for the band invite Rei, will defintately play with you guys when I'm home next week. I'm a jack-of-all trades in that game, although if I'm gonna sing I'd prefer to play guitar as well. For some reason I feel weird singing by myself, but not singing and playing guitar at the same time.
Yeah, send me an invite anytime. I'm trying to get better at drums. I have medium down perfect, and trying hard. As for singing, I gave up. My voice just doesn't have the range.

Thats funny I am actually reading 1984 right now. I never had to read it for highschool or anything so since I'm a scifi lover I decided to pick it up. Am only a third of the way through, but its ok so far. I would suggest any Arthur Clarke if you are a scifi fan, Childhood's End is one of my favorites.

While waiting for Blue Dragon I figured it would be a perfect time to finally play and beat Popful Mail for the Sega CD. Popful Mail is one of those games that you always intended to beat, and always wanted to beat but never got around to it. Maybe played it for about an hour, thought it was cute, shelved it and and ment to get back to it.

I'm guessing it'll take me around 20-30 hours. Anyone else ever play or beat it. It's actually fun to go back and play a simple Action/RPG.

Once I beat Popful Mail then I plan on getting rid of my Sega CDX. I'll finally have closure since I've completed all the Sega CD games I ever wanted to play.
I got Orange Box in the mail today.. Of course, no time to play it. Maybe this weekend..
Play it now BOI!
Boring night, just played some CoD4. Still have a 1.70 kill ratio.
Yeah really, I just did the other ending to K&L and they are both shit. Both endings = shit. COD4 how is that man? I still have not got a chance to get it and play it.

Kane and Lynch is fucking terrible. The only thing I slightly enjoyed was the multi-player. I liked jacking people on my team at the end of a heist. Other then that, nothing.

I've played so many good games this month it's hard to rate CoD4. It's definitely the best multi-player shooter I've ever played on a console. No doubt. The single player is great, but doesn't compare to HL2 or it's episodes. You should get it for 360. We could own some shit up. My lack of CoD4 playtime is because I hate playing with random people. I'd rather not play at all, you know?

Edit: read your post wrong.. get the game for 360 man :p

Well I haven't got it yet, I was just asking how it was since I value certain peoples opinions higher then others. ;) Seems a lot of people really enjoyed this one compared to COD3, but that was also made by a different dev/team right? I mainly haven't got it due to my back log of crap that I need to play. (K&L for example) I heard single player was really short though 5-6hrs? So that is kind of a let down to me. Since I enjoy a good single player with my multi player games. I totally get where you are coming from with random people online. I hate playing with people I don't know, mainly because they either are 12 year olds cussing up a storm, or they just ruin the fun in the game. I played Resistance online for along time with Cags and had a blast so when I get it I'll def look you up if you still have the game.

It's a short campaign for sure, unless you like veteran difficulty. In which case it's probably closer to 9. It's made by Infinity Ward, same team that did CoD2. Much better then the team that did CoD3.

I won't be getting rid of this game anytime soon. Just make sure you get it for 360, Live makes this game so much better.

Alright. I'll also put the difficulty up to Vet then whenever I grab it. Thanks for your input man. :)

I love me some Mass Effect. I have to say, my avatar is pretty hawt. It's just cool how well they did the facial animations overall.

I'm slow to progress, but I'm so into the game I'm having too much fun to care.

BTW amazon has Beautiful Katamari for $30...is that worth it? I'm probably not going to jump on it because I'm too into Mass Effect anyways.

They also have Calvin & Hobbs Complete for $67. I might jump on that one...

I'm in the same boat as you. I haven't beaten Poful Mail either. Didn't play it very much. Maybe I'll play it too. Not selling my CDX though, even with its broken lid. Just have to hold it up when I put in a disc.

gunm:Beautiful Katamari is not worth it at all. Wait for 20 dollars or sub.

Alright this is what I need to know. How do you guys find the time to play games all the time?

If you are in college where do you find the money to play games?
If you are working I guess time becomes the biggest strain, how do you deal with that?

Im working about 25 hours a week and also going to school, and have a girlfriend.

I tried not sleeping, but it took its affect on everything else I was doing in my life.

What do you guys do to get time?

Working two jobs. Well 2.5 jobs I guess. The clinic doesn't pay much, but I don't consider it a real job.

The strain of not being able to play games? Or the strain not being able to have the time to play games?

It all goes back to time management. I'll sit down with something and try to work my way through. If something new shows up, I'll play that for a bit then go back to the first game. At this point, the game really needs to bring something to the table for me to give up a backlog to play.

Avoiding sleeping isn't a good idea. You can't really play games when you pass out due to exhaustion. Not to mention, the local hospital around here are still using Playstations with copies of Crash Bandicoot.

I'd just map out your week in vague terms. Let's say you work four days a week (I'm guessing between 6 to 8 hours a day). Dedicate one day solely to finishing school work. This would be in addition to attending class during schedule days. Give the girlfriend a whole day of devotion if its worthwhile relationship. Half a day if its not. And use the seventh day for gaming. You can squeeze in some gaming here or there, but just don't slump down on the couch for two to three days a week.

Single also, not by choice. I usually have time because I don't currently have a steady job. I'm looking though, and then I won't have as much time. Since I've had plenty of time lately, I've been gaming like a madman. Just combing through the backlog, since I don't have much money coming in. Also, my weekends are completely free, and I just hang out with friends and play games.

Lately,
Normally on monday and wednesday I have class all day,and tuesday, thursday, and friday I work 8 hours a day. The girlfriend is going to Virginia Tech, which is about an hour away from me, so I normally spend the weekend with her, or bring her back here. I tend to try and squeeze in gaming sessions wheever possible, but it just seems like I cant play 40 mins without falling asleep with a controller in my hand.

I don't really have much time, either.. I can usually try to squeeze in half an hour to an hour of gaming after I get home at night, but a lot of times I can't even do that. Girls, family and like 1.5 jobs are what take up my time. I don't really mind all that much now, because I used to have way too much free time.. I go through phases where I kind of feel bad for wasting my time playing games.

I'm married, have 4 kids, work, and I'm going back to school for my masters. How do I find time? As someone mentioned earlier, time management. I make sure to have some "me" time everyday. If I didn't have that time I'd go crazy.

Oddly, lately I've had nothing but free time to play games (although it's the last week of classes, most of my work was handed in last week or two weeks ago, although I do have a presentation today) yet I've had nothing to play thanks to RRoD.

Oh well, Geo Wars Wii will be here tomorrow and all will be well again

Still working my way thru Chrono Cross at the moment. While I'm digging the story, the combat is a bit frustrating at times. There are also just so many characters to recruit that I'm finding myself using only a select few and not even bothering about the rest. Just wondering if this was okay, or if I'm actually gonna be forced to use the voodoo doll for something other than to laugh at.

Also, is the old RPG Thread officially dead and replaced with the GGT? The third RPGT died out over a month ago at around 445 posts, and I was wondering if there was enough intrest to start a new one.
