If I could have only one thing for Christmas it would be General Gaming Thread #18

Everything that's either popular or has a niche following has its zealots; those people who get pissed when you downplay or slam what they love. Here's a personal opinion about 2 popular games right now, Rock Band and Guitar Hero. Rock Band and Guitar Hero seem like cool games, but I think if everyone who plays them would just start playing real instruments, and devoted the same amount of time into it, they'd be rewarded more in the end. I know that not everyone can afford decent instruments, or they don't have the space for a drum kit and understanding neighbors that would let them practice without calling the cops, but that's how I feel. Maybe that's because I'm a drummer. Now while I feel this way, I won't shit talk Rock Band or Guitar Hero, but I have played them at least.

I love fighters and RPGs. I'm a fighting game nut. I'll play them until the day I die. No one will ever get me to think differently, but I will respect their opinion, unless their opinion is blatant trolling. I also dig FPS's but I don't kike Call of Duty 4, and I don't like Bioshock either. Ninja Edit : I do like Crysis, Halo 3, UT3, and FEAR.

Now, because I love fighting games, somebody slam me for not learning martial arts. ;)

My Name is InuFaye, and I approve of this statement.
Back home. Long weekend for me cause I don't got no finals till Wednesday. So it's Unreal Tournament time. Yeeeuh.
How will that game run on a 2.0Ghz processor?

I really want to pick it up but I don't want it to run like mud on my new setup. (Gforce 8800 512MB, 2MB RAM, 2.0Ghz processor)
In all seriousness though, I really don't think that people who haven't played a fighting game in depth are particularly qualified to make statements on them. It's the level of complexity that fighting games seem to always have now that's cast them into the niche.

People who don't even care for FPSs

What kind of processor? 2 GHz Pentium 4 is a world apart form a 2 GHz Core 2 Duo. 8800 is more that sufficient. Oh, and you'll need more than 2MB RAM.;)

I play real instruments! Though I play orchestral instruments. My main instrument is the clarinet. If they ever make like Violin Hero, I will be ecstatic!

True, because I don't play any fighting games.. at all.

-giggles-

Now that I would buy. Or Kazoo Hero. Or Bluegrass Band.

I'm not sure how well they could do Piano Hero, so... not holding out hope on that one. But if they did come out with it, I'd tear that shit up. Closest I'll get is the Final Fantasy Piano Collection sheet music tho...

which is actually worth listening to.

Oops. 2GB ram :)

Also the 2GHz is a Intel Dual Core like you mentioned. Will it still run the game alright?
Final Fantasy Piano Collections kick ass.
The Piano Collection songs for FFVII are fuckin' incredible.

They also kill you everytime you play them. Just thinkin' about playing the Jenova theme or One Winged Angel makes my hands cramp.

You play piano? That's cool. I took lessons, but I'm pretty mediocre. Piano didn't click with me as quickly as the strings and the woodwinds did.

I think you'll be fine, My friend runs it on his laptop, which is a 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo with an Radeon X1400 graphics card, and it runs fairly well. 8800 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>X1400, so you should be good. Most games are GPU limited anyway.

We should start up a GGT band, for realz. Chac on piano, Rei on 3 or 4 instrumets;), and I'll provide the beats.

Your comp will tear that shit up. Seriously, don't even worry about it not working. And if you're still worried bout it, download the demo and see.
Oh, and you'll need more than 2MB RAM.;)
What what what!? Seriously?

This shows no difference between 2GB and 3GB (although it's GameSpot, so they were probably payed off (CAG needs a "tin foil" smiley)). Or maybe the difference is in load times and stuttering?

Edit: LOL me reading skils are bad.
So on the 1up show they say that the ps3 version of DMC4 is superior.
Warz begin.
It was probably being made for the PS3 first and the 360 version was just an afterthought, so makes sense.

Did they say what makes it better?

In his post, asianxcore accidentally put 2 MB instead of 2 GB, hence my ;). He corrected it in a later post. And 2 GB is still a mountain of RAM unless you're doing something crazy. Shit, Crysis maxed takes a little under a GB by itself, so Windows has a whole GB to play with, if you have 2 GB.

I was thinking about getting the PS3 version anyway. I like the controller better.

But why do they say it's better?

No screen tearing, better textures and the like.
Its not unreasonable considering the ps3 version has had 2+ years of extra dev time.
I'll take better controller, achievements, and Live aware unless the problems are really bad.
I prefer the ps controller for DMC, and the xbox for Ninja Gaiden.
I just played so much of both that I play those games without that controller, hence why I have not finished sigma.
I'll take better controller, achievements, and Live aware unless the problems are really bad.
What's so great about it being "Live aware"?
What's so great about it being "Live aware"?
I dunno, I thought all x360 games were.
What's so great about it being "Live aware"?
So my friends can invite me to play COD4 when they are online, they'll be able to tell I'm online.

inufaye, I meant Live aware, over playing it on PS3 where no one would know I was online.

K. If those things are important to you then go for that version, I just prefer the controller for Devil May Cry 3.
I'll be playing the PC version with a Dual Shock 2.
Oh yeah, I can use a Dual Shock 2... might just do that then.

I've never played any DMC game with a 360 controller so I couldn't tell you if it works better, but I despise the Sixaxis.
I've never played any DMC game with a 360 controller so I couldn't tell you if it works better
That's pretty much what I was going to say.. I don't see how preference can be argued when we don't have the ability to try it yet.
K. If those things are important to you then go for that version, I just prefer the controller for Devil May Cry 3.
Me too because I'm used to the controller for DMC games. Never played it with a 360 controller so I'm going with the PS3 version since that isn't a big enough reason for me not to.

That's weird... My friend who works for Capcom of Japan on the DMC4 team told me he prefers the 360 version... I gotta ask him wassup with that X_X
Should I trade Uncharted and Assassins Creed for GH3 (PS3)?

Is that a good/fair trade?
That reminds me, my GH3 guitar is still in RMA limbo land.

Offhand, I'd say that would've been a good deal for me, if I didn't already have Uncharted. ;)
Should I trade Uncharted and Assassins Creed for GH3 (PS3)?

Two $60 games for a $100 game?

Then again, if this is a internet trade, I'd the person shipping out GHIII is losing out.

All in all, I would skip the PS3 version for the 360 version. Not only is there no slowdown and achievements, but you'll also be able to use the GHIII controller on both GHII & RB. Where as your SOL on PS3 (as is usually the case with multi-platform games).

Then again, I would pick up GHII W/ the Xploder and a game-only copy of GHIII. Then again I hate the feel of the GHIII guitar and I don't mind the cords.

So guys of everything that has been released this year, what are your gems and games you are keeping in your collection? I am sorting through all the shit I got this year keeping the good stuff and selling the mediocre games. It's all about the gems for me as I don't want a lot of shit in my collection. I played some Time Shift today, and I really want to like it but I find myself not interested in the story at all, the game play is okay at best, sound is decent, and the graphics are pretty good nothing amazing but good. I just am not into it at all, and am wondering if anyone else here has played it and liked it? Or is it more along the lines of trade that baby in?

Well... I can't really talk about that subject since I never get rid of any of my games... X_X

But I'm definitely happy with a few titles... Even though Assassin's Creed got blasted by most... I loved it... there's probably a handful of titles this year that I'm going to go back to every now and then... 2007 wasn't as GREAT as I thought it would be back in 2006...

I so hope 2008 IS what I want it to be... (probably will be) :D

Whoa... what's this... could it be???

Then what about... w...ww...nnnaannii?!?!

IMG_1769.jpg

Those are the games that I got in anticipation of my computer.

For those who are retarded, the boxes read:
Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts, Crysis: Special Edition, Gears of War, Neverwinter Nights 2 LE (inexplicably beat up box for a new copy, but whatcha gonna do when it's OOP?), Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer, Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance, and Unreal Tournament III: Collector's Edition.

but wait... if I opened all those, that must mean... must mean that...

Apologies for the semi crappy pic... the camera isn't very good and the mirrored case likes to fuck with it. Yes, it is a mirrored case. No flashing lights, no windows. Mirrored. It's pure class. But what are the specs:

Antec P182 SE Case
Corsair 750W PSU
Asus Maximus Formula X38 Special Edition Motherboard (I yell Maximus Formula at people now. It's my new thing)
Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 (Quad core) processor
4 GB (2 X 2 GB) PC1000 G.Skill DDR2 RAM
MSI Factory OCed 8800 Ultra (AFAIK, the fastest Ultra)
Hitachi 7k1000 1TB HDD (yes, excessive.)

I didn't get SLI coz I would've had to get a shitty motherboard and I needed the extra VRAM that you get from the 8800 Ultra. Anyway, it's a relatively effective computer for writing papers.

In addition, I installed some games, but not too many (just the ones I have):
IMG_1775.jpg

Now, this isn't the most illuminating of pictures, so for those truly devoted to k-nowledge, the games I have on my computer are:

Bioshock: CE, Chronicles of Riddick, Command & Conquer 3 CE, Company of Heroes CE, Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts, Crysis SE, Deus Ex: GOTY Edition, Divine Divinity, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Elder Scrolls IV: Knights of the Nine, Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles, FEAR: Director's Edition, FEAR: Extraction Point, Far Cry, Gears of War, Heavy Metal FAKK 2, Medieval II: Total War, Melty Blood: Act Cadenza Ver. B, Neverwinter Nights 2 LE, Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer, Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast, STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl, Supreme Commander, Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, Tomb Raider Anniversary, Tomb Raider Legend, Unreal Tournament III CE, World In Conflict CE, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War GOTY Edition, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: Dark Crusade, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: Winter Assault.

So uhm... that's my big purchase for a while.

You never do? Even the shitty games that we all purchase and then regret later on?
So how much did that PC cost you?
Yeah Chac, spill it! ;)
