Haven't played one since the original back on PS1. (OK, I dabbled with Angel of Darkness, sue me). I have one more game for Netflix (I have their super secret VIP service so the CPA let's me borrow his games) so I want something short, sweet, linear, and familiarity doesn't hurt. I don't care if it's easy. Which would you guys recommend? Any of them stand out over the others?

Tomb Raider Anniversary was pretty nice. It is a completely remade version of the original game. New controls/graphics/a few extra things.

If you really liked the original you will love this one. You should be able to run through pretty quickly if you are familiar with it.

Tomb Raider Underworld wasn't bad, especially as a rental. It was the first TR game I played since I got the original ps1 game for xmas many many many years ago.

Also enjoyed TR Legend as well. I have TR Underworld and Anniversary as well. Underworld played about 20 mins of and it didnt hold my attention and Anniversay is still sealed.

I felt the same way about Underworld. I bought it, played the first level, and put it aside. I came back to it and spent another 4-5 hours on it and it started getting a lot better.

The TR:U first level (underwater if I remember correctly was a bad intro to the game) The rest of the levels were pretty fun.

Seems like Legend is edging out Underworld. Anything I should know about the achievements? Probably won't go for 1000 but will get what I can with a week of on/off gametime.

I've played and beaten Legend and Anniversary and loved them both. You can't go wrong with either.

Played the demo of Underworld and didn't get the same feeling. I'm still waiting for it to get cheap so I'll reserve judgement.

Some of the acheivements are tied to Time Trial runs. After beating the story, you can replay the levels in time trial mode and go for speed runs.

I scored 600 points on my first (and only) attempt. Setting the difficulty to max will net you an additional 175. There's an extra 250 points for downloading Anniversary, if you're so inclined.

I'd say check them out in this order:

Tomb Raider: Legend
Tomb Raider: Underworld
Tomb Raider: Anniversary

I think Underworld is the best of the bunch with the massive puzzles, but Legend is probably an easier entry point into the series. Anniversary wasn't very good.

As for achievements, just play on hard on the outset for any of them. The difficulty is only marginally harder and it nets you quite a bit more points. As for the time trials, do some searching, if I'm not mistaken there is an invincible cheat you can unlock and use for them in Legend.

Anniversary was a nice remake of the first game, nothing more, nothing less. The T-Rex fight was a huge disappointment compared to the original, but everything else managed to capture the spirit of that seminal game.

Legend was a good (and necessary) turning point for the series. It's got a lot of fun and excitement but lacks noticeably in actual exploration and puzzles (which longtime TR fans argued was the essence of the series).

Underworld shows better balance overall, and is a competent sequel if not much of an inspired one. I can only hope the next sequel ups the ante and doesn't take the series back to being stale.

I agree with upping the difficulty fromt he start. 99% of Tomb Raider deaths come from falling, increased difficulty really only makes enemies stronger, which is not that big of a deal.
