So I have different views on the Mortal Kombat Series. Back when I was a kid in 92 I was blown away by the graphics and blood. Then later I got into more deeper fighters (Street Fighter 2 etc). Then the MK series kinda became mundane. Lack of combos (MK:3 and the pre-programed combos was the worst combo system in any game in my opinion). I kinda strayed away from the series, and when Deadly alliance came out, I thought it was a solid game, and challenging at that. I only rented it though, and didn't complete every thing it had to offer.

Anyways, I pre-ordered the new one, and wanted to hear your opinions on how you think it may turn out. I do know it looks like it has great replayablity with the obcene amout of unlockables. If you haven't seen everything it has to offer, go and watch the video "Ed Boon walkthrough" in the media gallery section on the official site.http://www.mortalkombatdeception.com

I liked MK 2 the most and thought MK DA was ok. The combo system was kinda lame since some characters had the same weapon stances, such as Scorpion and Kenshin.

I thought MK 2 was the best in the series. I picked up DA when it was cheap. It was decent; a fresh take on the laggine series. I've got this one preordered too, because I think this one will be what the series needed.

MK2 is still the pinnacle of the series. I own DA, and have played through about half of conquest mode, and I haven't been impressed. The system feels way too stiff and disjointed, cpompared to the other modern 3d fighters (Tekken, VF4, and SC1&2). I think Bo'Rai Cho is one of the worst character designs (between the farting and the puking) ever in a fighter. Deception just seems like they're finishing Deadly Alliance, with the stage fatalities and larger character roster. I'm holding out for the GH version, though. Or at least GH pricing.

MK 1-3 and MK from DA onwards is apples and oranges. It's barely worth comparing it's so different.

As far as "breaking new ground" with MK:D, I don't really think so. I think it'll be a beefed up MK:DA with online play included, and bells and whistles like Chess and Puzzle Kombat.

I'll still probably get it though since I've liked (most) MK games and the storyline of the series is more appealing to me than other fighting games like the SF series or Tekken. I may not pick it up immediately though, I'm not that pumped about the Kollector's Edition and I honestly don't want to support this trend unless the game is monumental enough to warrant it, like Halo 2. Seriously...how long before we start seeing Army Men Special/Collector's Editions? I like the regular MK:D cover better than any of the Kollector ones anyway. :?

MK2 was the best. I hated MK 3, due to the run button and stupid combos and characters. MK: DA was ok imo. MK: Deception looks awesome so i'll be getting it. I wish they had both 1 and 2 in kollector's edition.

I know this is a minority opinion among fighting fans, but I loved the combos in MK3. It was like a new type of special move. Anway the MK3/UMK3/MKT games were my favorite. MK2 had better intangibles, mostly associated with that arcade mystique of the early '90s, but MK3's engine was the best for gameplay. MK4 had some decent innovations, but was too flawed (combo system was FULL of holes, leading to the "Maximum Damage" programming copout) to stand among the MK greats. As someone pointed out, MK 5 was the proverbial "oranges" to MK 1-4's "apples." A different direction for the series... I prefer the 2-D games, but MK5 had a lot to offer. The game did feel a bit incomplete, though, kinda like MK1 did in its original release. In that respect, I expect Deception to be the "MK 2" of the new 3D Mortal Kombats. They seem to be cramming a whole lot into this, and the online fighting in and of itself is gonna be revolutionary for the series. I suppose we'll all find out how it's gonna be in a few short weeks! I got mine pre-ordered and I can't wait.

I think I MIGHT even pick this game up. Some good hype around it. I'm not the biggest fighter fan, but maybe with the LIVE addition, I could get into it. I really LOVED the old school MK1/2 in the arcades and ont he Sega Genesis, so I may just have to pick this up. I'm actually going to GameRush after work today to trade in some games, so maybe I'll pre-order it.

I think that even non-fighter fans will be able to get into this. The Puzzle Kombat should be sweet, as an ONLINE Puzzle Fighter ripoff is a VERY good thing! And chess kombat should be awesome, I could see that sucking a lot of people who wouldn't normally play a fighting game. You have an Archon-like board game, then when pieces fight, it switches over the fighting game engine. Suddenly, some guy who started playing some goofy-looking strategy game at his friends house is dumped into the fighting game. And then he just has to start learning how to fight, whether he likes it or not.

This is gonna be sick!

I'm done buying Mortal Kombat games. I'm boycotting Midway because of what they have done with Deception. My favorite character, Scorpion, is only available on Xbox if you buy it at EB Games. I only have a PS2, so F this game!

What the hell are you talking about? Scorpion is just on the cover that's all. it has nothing to do with who's in the game.

I kind of excited about this one coming out.
The main reason is that it is ONLINE. There are NO Fighters that are online for the PS2. I am more of a Street Fighter fan but I can only beat the computer so many times.

I think someone needs a JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS mat :)

Yes, the special edition are only COVERS that are different. Look at PS2, they are shafted with only ONE special edition cover

I think I know where that guy got his "info"... the EB Email newletter goofed and said that Scorpion was an exlusive character. But they quickly corrected that huge typo in the next email, where they clarified that the COVER with Scorpion was exclusive, and reassured everyone that Scorpion was playable in each and every version of the game. So have no fear, bbfinster, you can lift your boycott!

I understand EB's website used to make it confusing.. but take a look again, they've changed the page to remove the confusing comment. Basically, you're wrong, Scorpion will be in every copy.

I agree with the online gaming.
When I game with friends its usually at their place, I don't often play multiplayer at my house....so fighting games tend to only hold my attention for a few hours. Live is going to be a great feature considering I will always have a decent challenge.

MK 2 was the best out of the stand alone series, but I think Trilogy had the most to offer only because of everything being combined
