"PlayStation 3 Promo Sale Mania
With the strong performance of the Wii (more than 4 million sold worldwide already) and the continued success of the Xbox 360, Sony will want to move as many PlayStation 3s as it can. To do so, I expect the company to go into "Fire Sale Mode" by late spring/ early summer where it will begin to unleash a number of new initiatives to justify that $600 price tag.

To start, Sony will announce that it's phasing out the 20-gig version of its system and stick to a single SKU (which makes sense considering that any compatible hard drive works with the console anyway). The 60GB model will probably see a price drop as well (to $549 or so), and multi-colored versions (like the shells shown at E3 2005) will hit consumers before the end of the year."

Since the 20 gig is the only one it seems that is selling, that doesn't make to much sense (Bolded). That is just one section I picked out. I think there are 10 predicitions.

They will most likely start including extra items like a game and/or movie or something before they drop the price of anything.

I don't put much faith in IGN. I mean christ, on their top ten games we're looking forward to on the PS3 the three editors listed God of War 2 in their 3, 2, and 1 spots respectively. I understand that it'll be a great game, but christ. It's a fuckING PS2 GAME!! Furthermore, they all omitted Virtua Fighter 5 from their list. Ugh, my hatred for IGN grows every day.

On a related note -- BioWare/ Pandemic, Blizzard, and Valve Software will become such huge creative entities that no outside company will ever be able to buy them... ever.

Does this person know the Blizzard is owned by Vivendi? I guess his outside company theory is flawed.

The rumble rumor has been all over (PSM mentioned it too), so I'm thinking that may come true (don't really care though).

I think part of the problem is, many ebay scalpers went for the 60GB models, which caused Sony to ship more 60GB models to stores (since they were selling first). But since that, there seems to be an even distribution of people who want a 20GB model instead. The problem seems to be, Sony is shipping more 60GB models than they should, and not enough 20GB models (although EB/Gamestop seems to have a 20GB model now, I haven't seen one at other retailers for a very long time).

The numbers don't lie, the PS3 is getting destroyed by the 360 and Wii. I think even if they could have shipped an unlimited amount of these systems, nobody is buying them because of the price and the weak launch lineup. Sony seriously needs to do something to get the PS3 to sell. Dropping the 60 GB price closer to the 20 GB price is a start. But still its too damn expensive for a game system. I'm think its too late for the PS3, it started slow out of the gate and usually that doesn't bode well for the future. The Gamecube never fully recovered once it fell to #3 in the USA and never really look to give the Xbox a serious challenge for #2 during its lifetime. The more I think about it the PS3 reminds me of the 3DO.

Yeah you're right, the PS3 is doing far worse than the 3DO.

Sorry, couldn't resist. ;)

But they're sitting on the shelves, OMG!!!! EVERY1 WANTS A WII!!! SONY SUX!!!!

Seriously, some of you act like PS3 is the Philips CD-I.

PS3 has already outsold 360 in Japan in just over a month, so it's not really doing bad at all. Europe is Sony's strongest market (360 isn't even doing too well there, except in the U.K. region), so if they top MS there sometime this year, they're doing fine. The U.S. will be the country Sony has the roughest time, mostly because the 360 is a western console (very well suited towards the U.S. and MS gets better respect in NA),

Like many said, most people just look at the PS3 having Resistance, and that's it (although I feel there are other good games out, and they're good downloads currently). But once more games come out (which are good), sales will increase. People want either a big game or a few to make them drop $500 or $600 for a PS3.

I agree that Metal Gear will probably get pushed back to 2008.

And I wants me some pink Dualshock 2!!!

Seriously tho, the PS3 is NOT going to fail. Yes its starting off slow, yes its expensive, yes the games out now suck... but soo what? a year or two from now NONE of that will matter. The price will drop and the games will get betterm and people will start to buy it.

I predict that IGN will be even greater shit in the year 2007.

And yes what's really keeping me from buying one is the fact they don't come in cool colors! I would so waste $600 on a shity console that has no games I want because it comes in a different color!

New colors could help spur sales. Nintendo was been taking that approach to its Gamecube and Handhelds for years. Maybe Sony should do the same.

The difference is people that bought different colors for Nintendo products wanted those products. It's clear few want a $600 PS3, nevermind what color it is.

I predict that IGN will be even greater shit in the year 2007.

Piggybacking that, I predict that they will vanish even further into EA's back pocket and will make even greater use of a PSP-licking hottie 'journalist' to divert attention away from their ever-augmenting shittiness.

I'm sorry, I know that's all far-fetched, but something just tells me it's true!
