freakin mo!!!

has anybody ever beaten this game!!

it's hard as butt!!

I mean, not as hard as Battletoads (nothing is)

but harder than Ninja Gaiden!!

dat must make it like, the 2nd hardest game ever.

I mean, there's jus soooo many cheap deaths,

and with some of the enemy patterns,

stage memorization is just not enough to get by.

regardless, I vow that I must beat this game!

(thank goodness for unlimited continues btw)

Which one are you playing?

G&G one of the hardest games I've ever played especially if you want the true ending. You're probably aware, or going to be soon, that you have to beat the WHOLE game over again once you beat Loki the first time. And, best part, it's much harder the second time.

I've been playing that game in spurts for about 15 years and I can tell you I've never got the true ending. Without save states you are looking at a serious marathon - a marathon you are going to be running with frayed-ass nerves for many hours on end.:bomb:

A tip I've passed on to G&G players, is to play with a friend and alternate lives. This helped us beat Loki the first time. We started playing at about 8pm and finished at 4am. That's when we were told "You need to get the ring/circlet" or something to that effect and we were kicked back to the first world. No girlfriend is worth that, sorry.

I've found that cooling off for a minute or two in between deaths (cough, or two seconds) really helps with the need to punch something.

G&G for the PSP looks awesome - too bad I don't have a PSP.. hope it gets cross-console release.:D

G&G hands down for me is one of the best. I really just love the seris and how damn hard it can get a times. Like the above poster said you will need to go back though once you beat the last boss again to really beat the game, but I found it not to be that bad back in the day. Though if you think this game can piss you off with cheap deaths, you should really fight the secert boss for Demons Crest, which was a spin off of G&G for the SNES, now he pissed me off to no end.

yo, Im actually playing the Genesis version.

that is, on my PSP with save states

and regardless, the game is still a bitch.

but... Im definately gonna tough it out

(Im playing it coz Im excited for the new PSP version!)

once I finish dat, I can update my PSP to lose all homebrew

The Genesis version is Ghouls'n'Ghosts. I didn't find that one too difficult. The original Ghosts'n'Goblins on NES will seem impossible initially. For a game with unlimited continues, not many people will see it through to the end, or even halfway.

I heard the original jpn version had no continues....and some people were still able to go through it from start to finish. That scares me.

Yea, you're playing the EASIEST one, with SAVE STATES! Save states changes the whole dynamic - the whole "go back to the beginning of stage, and, scream into a pillow".Count your blessings. Try that spit without save states... it's insane... Check out the SNES version, the original NES and the arcade version too.

PS: I hate to say it but you might have the cutest damn avatar on the whole of CAG.

I don't think it's humanly possible to beat the original NES version - it is way harder than Battletoads, IMO.
Was Ninja Gaiden that hard? I passed it and never had a problem with it.
No. The original Ninja Gaiden could be beaten (not easily but defintiely doable). I beat it back in the day and if I can do it I'm sure other can... Never played the new Xbox one though - I hear that one is a bitch.

The one game I had problems with was the first Ninja Turtles. I got up to Shredder, died, started at the beginning without the 99 scrolls I had collected for each turtle and said fuck it. I did beat it eventually though using save states.

There were so many hard games back in the day... Snake Rattle & Roll comes to mind. That level 7 is a bitch.

I do not care if you believe me or not but my older brother who was probably in his early 20s then beat it twice in a row on NES to get the good ending. He could also beat Contra without losing one life.

haha. yeah last nite I jus actually realized

"wait, Im playing "ghouls and ghosts" not "ghosts and goblins"

and I even made some considerable progress too!!

the fre boss was actually real easy!

but Ima definately play the NES version after this one,

I have to.

Strange part is that some people actually talked about Ghouls and Ghosts...

The final boss is a cake-walk both times you fight him, and in the SNES version there are some good cheats to help you through it. I never finished mine, once I realized you had to beat it again AND it doesn't save your score.

yeah, I finished ghoul n ghosts

and then an old man and a lady were like "u cant beat loki! play again!"

and when u start over, the games seems so much more easier!!

I dont feel like playing rite now, but I should beat wave 2 sumtime this week.

then that should prime me enough for the real shit,

ghosts n goblins

I never really had a problem with Ghouls N Ghosts, though I have to admit I never beat the last boss the 2nd time with that shitty bracelet weapon.

The original Ghosts N Goblins, though, holy crap. I never made it past stage 3 I don't think.

The biggest pain about the NES one is the jumping sucks. I've almost beaten Super G&G once, but that's it.

Ninja Gaiden was doable, but I never could beat the last boss. Battletoads never beat that either.

Agreed.. the jumping is really rough in NES G+G.. that was one of the first NES games I owned (along with Popeye and SMB). The part with the dragon.. somewhere around the end of level 3 if I'm not mistaken. He's on a bridge... super hard. I rarely would make it past that part (even with an hour of effort).

yeay~~~ jux beat "Ghouls n Ghosts"

dat final boss was a big pussy, I only died on him a few times

(coz I kept falling off the platform!)

anyway it's soon time to start "Ghosts n Goblins"

same save state rules apply:

only save at respawn points (i.e. save when u die)

and if u get a new weapon, u MUST save once u die, no matter how much u liked your old weapon better

(since this game has jacked up movement physics, I learned to kill myself if there's an item dat's too hard to avoid if I dont want it)

I've done that with Contra before, it's a lot of fun. In that run I cycled the game about two and a half times before running out of lives...good stuff, good stuff!

But when it came to Ninja Gaiden and GnG on the NES...ouch. I could make it through Ninja Gaiden and just BARELY make it through Ninja Gaiden 2 but GnG was nothing but repeated lessons in absolute brutality. It didn't stop me and I kept getting further and further but, man, the game is like running into a brick wall repeatedly. Sure, you may make it through one day, but just how many bones are you going to break before common sense kicks in?

I just love NES difficulty, though...there's just something about games that are legitimately difficult and challenging without being completely cheap that's just nostalgic.

alrite this game is fucked up.

Im on the 2nd level, and ure in sum kinda building thing w/ ladders.

each floor has one or two big ass monsters,

they take HELLA hits to kill, and once u hit them u cant stop,

otherwise they'll run straight for your ass and kill you,

and u gotta hit them as soon as you see them or they'll throw a bowling ball at you.

so there u are, hitting away at them, when either:

1. a freakin blue bird comes up from behind u

2. another monster above you throws a bowling ball at you.

you cannot stop attacking the pig thing otherwise he'll run up on your ass

but that means u cant dodge the incoming enemy / projectile.

in other words, your ass is dead!!

and even if u get past dat part, when u die u start again at the beginning of it!!

(or at least I havent made it that far yet)

so now it's official, this game, while only on level 2, has surpassed battletoads.

it's also official, you aint no gamer unless u fuck with this game.

if u arent down with ghosts and goblins, might as well stop playing games now.

word up.

The first TMNT was awesome. I could never beat the damn thing without cheats. I mean, I could get up to the Technodome (SP?) without fail, but once inside, holy shit I got my ass kicked.

I haven't played Battletoads in years, but I don't remember it being as hard as everything says it was.

Ha ha... Jekki welcome to Ghosts and Goblins. Are you still playing that spit emulated/with save states?

I think the a$$holes you're talking about are called "big men".. can't remember been too long. Yea, they are hard, especially sometimes when they know you're beneath them and there isn't really a way to get them to "reset" their wandering. You're pretty much screwed at that point. Daggers, daggers, daggers m'boy. That's all you can do.

Wait until the next level. It gets better. Er, I mean, harder. Much.

Way back in the NES days, my best friend told me I HAD to get this game (He told me and my mom what games to get; I was the rich kid, and his parents were my parents best friends).

He was a video game nut and freak of gaming nature. He was like the Wizard from, well "The Wizard" but not mental nor sick (although...)

I remember watching him beat it, no joke. Of all the games he wouldn't let me play, and I watched him beat, this one probably stands out the most. The other one that stood out and I remember well was Metal Gear, but that wasn't nearly as hard, just fun to watch. I remember him beating the first TMNT too. I loved that game, but never beat it myself. Anyone who says that game sucks, doesn't know what they are talking about.

aiite, so Ive been stuck on the same damn part for 3 days.

and Im thinking like, wtf...

why,

WHY?

why the fuck do all these birds gotta come and fuck u up all the time?!?!

I mean, I got the damn stage down to a science,

and I can even get past the part now, but not without getting hit once,

and it's always coz a bird has to come outta nowhere and mess everything up!!

I mean, Ive already convinced myself why it is,

I bet if u actually look at the programming code of this game,

the appearance of birds, bats, or whatever is a random function!!

and I also bet the developers put it in there as a big joke too!!

they were most likely like "yeah lets fuck with these players!"

yeah, fuckers, as if this game was hard enough.

and why the hell do those "big men" take like 10 hits to kill?!?!

and to guarantee me a safe passage, I gotta kill like 6 of them,

and I cant hit and run those bastards coz they run WAY faster than you.

in "ghouls n ghosts" enemies never took less than 2 or 4 hits to kill (except for flying demon things)

yeah this game is insane...

o and yeah, I use save states but only at the places where u come back to life.

that way I can jus pick up and play rather than play it thru entirely

(which would most likely eat up important time and drive me insane)

aw hell yeah I finally beat that damn part!!!

halfway thru stage 3 now,

and I only wish I had a different weapon...

Over here in japan, I sat and watched someone beat this game on ONE

FRICKIN CREDIT! And I learned quite a few cool glitches too. And yeah, Ghouls

and Ghosts was not as tough, but the STATUE TONGUE LEVEL was a biatch.

Good luck on your quest.

PS, I remember a couple other seriously difficult games. How bout The

GUARDIAN LEGEND? That game was insanely hard. Or SECTION Z? Man... But

perhaps the most difficult game of all time is the TRANSFORMERS game for

NES. It never got a US release, and the reason was because it was essentially

unbeatable. It was a side scrolling shooter, and 1 hit would kill you, and you

only had 1 life! NO CONTINUES! And your guy was huge and the

controls sucked. If anyone has beaten this game, well then, you seriously

need to get out more!

i d/loaded transformers for an emulator to see what it was all about. maybe the worst game ever?

to get back OT though, are they going to release the new GnG (PSP) for any other systems?!? It doesn't look that way and I think that's just weak.
