Illinoisians Rejoice! (Gov. Blagojevich taken into Custody)

My dad is definitely dancing a jig today at work. Now we can just hope the charges stick and he isn't the only person they are going after

You'd think after knowing he was under investigation for so many years he would try to keep a low profile with that nonsense. That bastard was so cocky he thought no one would touch him. Now if we could overhaul the rest of the corrupt members of local, state, and federal government, we could go back to being a prosperous country run by folks who work FOR the people. Maybe Daley is next in line?

I want to know what idiots reelected him?

I love the phone call where he is talking about selling the seat but doesn't think they should talk about it on the phone because everyone in the world could be listening. I mean honestly, think about how they can be listening, but then talk about it on the phone anyways?

I voted against his motherfucking ass. Didn't work. And he is as clumsy as he is stupid. He knew there was heat on him for being corrupt, and he kept doing it.

And definitely do not talk on the phone about it. I'm glad he did.

I hope he gets what's coming to him, and doesn't weasel his way out of it somehow.

I voted against the dumbass as well. In fact, I honestly don't know a single person who voted for him (at least the 2nd time around). I think there is enough shit on this guy to nail his ass to the wall for a long time.

NEW NEWS!! Jesse Jackson, Jr tried to buy the senate seat!!!

According to the FBI affidavit in the case, Blagojevich "stated he might be able to cut a deal with Senate Candidate 5 that provided Rod Blagojevich" with something "tangible up front."

Jackson said this morning he was contacted Tuesday by federal prosecutors in Chicago whom he said "asked me to come in and share with them my insights and thoughts about the selection process."

Jackson said, "I don't know" when asked whether he was Candidate No. 5, but said he was told "I am not a target of this investigation."

Jackson said he agreed to talk with federal investigators "as quickly as possible" after he consulted with a lawyer.

The congressman, a son of the famed civil rights leader, denied that anyone had been authorized to make payments or promises to the governor on his behalf.

More from Brian Ross and the Investigative Team

"It is impossible for someone on my behalf to have a conversation that would suggest any type of quid pro quo or any payments or offers," Jackson told ABC News. "An impossibility to an absolute certainty."

"Senate Candidate No. 5" played a key role in the governor's efforts to obtain something of value in exchange for the Senate appointment, according to the FBI affidavit.

According to the affidavit, Blagojevich threatened to appoint Senate Candidate No. 5 if President-elect Obama refused to help get his wife on "paid corporate boards right now."

"If they feel like they can do this and not f-- give me anything then I'll f-- go [Senate Candidate 5]."

The FBI says that during an Oct. 31 conversation, Blagojevich described an approach from an associate of Senate Candidate 5: "We were approached 'pay to play.' That, you know, he'd raise me 500 grand. An emissary came. Then the other guy would raise a million, if I made him [Senate Candidate 5] a senator."

On Thursday, the FBI says Blagojevich "was giving Senate Candidate 5 greater consideration for the Senate seat" because he might "get some [money] up front, maybe."

Blagojevich is back to business as usual working in his Chicago office today, which is his 52nd birthday. "The day-to-day operation doesn't change nor is it affected. There are still critical state issues that he wants to address -- things like dealing with the current financial crisis, looking at ways to keep people in their homes and finding ways to create jobs -- and will continue to do so as governor," said a spokesperson. Meanwhile, Obama and Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) are now calling for the governor's resignation.

Meanwhile, a top aide to Blagojevich, Illinois Deputy Governor Bob Greenlee, resigned today. The reason for his resignation wasn't immediately clear.

Meh. What's new is old. Our previous guv is already serving jail time so this is business as usual. Maybe the next governor will surprise me and actually be a decent person.

Not gonna happen soon.

They weren't exactly the same thing but the point of the matter is that they were selling stuff they weren't legally & ethically supposed to so I think my previous post stands.

Oh I know, it's the same charges of corruption. But my post was to just point out the level of elevation. It's like they are setting the bar for corruption for the next guy.

LOL, your post stands. I wasn't trying to contradict you. I never said it didn't.

My bad.

But yeah, it does seem like they're escalating the corruption level.
it's amazing how this dude just defies to feel any guilt
He's not resigning. I got a bad feeling about the outcome of this trial...

Did anyone listen to the broadcast of Rod contesting the charges? Or more to the point, failing to contest the charges and instead saying they have no proof so they can't impeach. Glad he spent all that time on The View with Barbara.... That really helped his case.
You fuckers had to one up us. Its not enough we get a Mayor sent to jail. :D Free Kwame!!!
Being from Michigan myself, I sort of get the "best of both worlds".:D
