I'm afraid to shop online.

Afrocious

CAGiversary!
I'm 17 and I've received my first bank card. The money I have on it is my own from the work I do at a supermarket. I want to buy FFIX but I have no idea what sites are reliable and which ones aren't scams.

I'm starting to feel a little bit paranoid about this. I feel comfortable giving my card to a waiter at a restaurant but I can't seem to hit the "confirm order" button.

Well, you can always post here and ask peoples experiences with Site A, B, C and base your decision off of that.

post up your info and we'll shop at the right places for you.

Haha. Pretty much what he said the main retailers. Amazon is great as well.

I think a good rule of thumb is that if Cheapy D puts a link up to it on the main page it is safe, thats what I go by. Almost like the "Cheapy Seal of Approval".

*EDIT* I am specifically referring to the "Links" section he has, NOT the google ads that may show up, I don't trust ANY of those google ads for one second.

Yeah, I would think theres more risk when using your credit card in a retail store, especially when the cashier asks you to hand them the card so they can scan it because it isn't working or something. Entering it online is much safer because only you can see it (just don't shop online at a library or public computer!)

Most credit cards have fraud protection, and if something does go wrong, which it probably won't, you can always do a chargeback and the credit card company will handle it. I have made hundreds of online purchases and have never had a problem.

Sites I've used with no issues...

Amazon
EB Games
Circuit City
NCSX.com (mostly for import stuff)
Play-asia.com (ditto)

Places I'd avoid

Paypal (Long story short, I sold 100 games on eBay to buy my new TV. Someone tried to break into my Paypal account to get at the ~1400 dollars. Cancelled my account after withdrawing my money.)

amazon.com is good. i used to shop at buy.com as well. for stuff like FFIX or any ps1 games online is where youll find em cheap.

i shop online at libraries with no problem. I just make sure no one is around to look and see me enter information. it isnt like they can log back into amazon and order a ton of shit with my credit card.

As for the people who say you are more at risk giving your CC to a restaurant or retail store, yeah you are at risk, but it would just be a matter of time before the employee is caught and you have everything resolved.

the only time i had to do a chargeback was when i got scammed on ebay- the seller never shipped or refunded so i called the CC company and had them reverse the charges.
