I'm bored, let's talk obscure genre and sub-genre games...
How about W.T.F. for PSP? I haven't gotten around to playing it yet but it sure looks weird.
I'm waiting for a price drop, but it's high on my want list :)

I def love the weird Japanese games.

It started with the snes. I had a disk copier so I had every game. There were soo many weird Japanese games that I actually got into. Sunsoft made all these mascot games, their mascot was called 'Hebereke' and they had all kinda strange stuff involving him, racing games, breakout clones, and mingame party type games.

I really wish they would port over some the 'Simple 2000' series of buddget games for the PS2. Some of their more interesting titles include:

Zombie vs. Ambulance: Think of the ambulance missions in GTA with the streets being overrun by zombies

Earth Defense force: Fight flying saucers and giant ants while wearing a jetpack.

The girl in assless chaps fights zombies with a bullwhip game.

Giant bikini clad j-pop girls stomp around Japan and you attack them with a helicopter, including shooting them in the breasts and 'other' areas.

I would totally buy all those games if they were released here for $10-20 each.

Ive even been known to play a Pachislot game (Pachinko) once in a while.

I wanted to get a real Pachislo machine.... unfortunately it's illegal in my state.

Anyways, anyone ever play those gravure idol ps2 games? Were those games, or rather just videos with special effects?

Zombie vs. Ambulance is getting a Europe release next year.
Earth Defense force has one of the best co-op mode in any PS2 games. The first one already got a european release, and they second game should be out next year in europe.

That's all I've ever been able to find

From what I've seen, they're not games at all, but they do look fun..lots of different camera effects, scene transitions, and a fair amount of interactivity with the camera..

I'd like them if they were progressive/wide screen

I imported a Japan PS2 last year, and overall I'd say it was an ok move on my part. The only game I really play on it is Pop'n Music, so in that aspect it was worth it. So far have 7,8,(9 in the mail) and 10. (What's funny is, an arcade here has Pop'n, but I'm so used to the tiny home controller that I prefer the home version as opposed to the real thing.)

I also have Zombie VS Ambulance and Oneechabara 2. It was actually Onee that convinced me to import, seeing a chick in a bikini killing zombies put me into a rage. Sadly both games are pretty hard, and I've never really gotten the hang of it. I've learned to just stick with games that have hardly any reading involved, safe games like Pop'n.

Anyways, to get more on topic: When it comes to odd genre games, I'm always on the lookout for anything cooking, and most music games as well. Cooking Mama I thought was terrible, but Ore no Ryori is a treat if you can play it! It's a cooking game on Psone.

Also, Princess Maker 2 is similar to Monster Rancher, especially part 1 if you've played it, the style and training.

Not so much a cooking game, but theres a Yoshinoya game where you work the counter at a fast food restaurant and have to serve curry and noodle bowls to different cutomers. Think 'Tapper' and your on the right track in terms of gameplay.

I think some people here have been watching Cinematech NE....

I remember when it was just the hardcore of the hardcore who used to import games...by MAIL ORDER! And half the time we didn't know in advance how much reading was necessary, so we wrote charts out for "YES" "NO" and translated out dialog character by character if we had to..

I still have my original Mega Drive adapter somewhere..I sold my STKEY some time ago though...

I am thankful to god that importing became so much easier come the PSOne.

the Simple 2000 series really does need to come to the US, or at least be adopted. About 90% of the titles released under the title are games I want badly. So far I've only seen a few in person (the helecopter one and onncheebrawhateverzombiekillergirl).

Eidos tried something similar with their "fresh" line of games with Mad Mistro and Mister Mosquito. Too bad they stopped pursuing that idea :(

Zombie vs. Ambulance is a high want on my list...

here's the euro publisher of the most obscure titles (giant girl and Pink Pong are a few to note that are part of the simple 2000):

It's kind of a shame because "Mad Maestro" is a GREAT game. I've been wanting to get the LE version with extra stuff, the Christmas version AND the sequel. It's just fun as can be.
Simple 2000 games also might do well priced at $15 new here. Personally I think what Eidos did with the "Fresh Games" label is more the way to go except either price them at $20 or $30 new. With the Simple 2000 bit I think $15 is the only fair price to charge since they're being developed with that price in mind.

agreed in every direction.

The closest I've seen the US market try to do something is with pre-gen systems. Once the Ps2 was released the PS1 has been flooded with budget titles, even though most of them are crap.
