I think I'm the only person in the city who doesn't have one yet. Now I have to start making some decisions about which kind I should buy... I'm not sire I need the picture one but my CD collection is over 1,000 so I think I want the biggest one they offer... Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? I'm excited to finally get one (assuming I can find one so soon after Christmas...)

i got a 20gb one for christmas and i had doubts, but i have to say that it is worth it and you will probably like it, unless your jewish or canadian.......

.......also got a cd shower radio!!! although, it says in the caution signin the corner very small "should not come in contact with water or humidity"........................................................................................

They make 20 GB and 40 GB iPods. The 20 gig one can hold around 5,000 songs and the 40 gig one can hold about 10,000 songs.

they have a 60 gig too, but you won't need anything more then 20, prolli could hold over 10000 songs at good quality too, i don't get the purpose of a ipod once you have a car with a mp3 player

The 60 gig one is only in the iPod Photo line.

I think you can hold music on that extra storage, too.

Yeah, you can hold pictures and music, but I seriously can't see where someone would need 60 gigs of space. The 20 gig one I have seems like it's gonna take forever to fill. I can only imagine the 40 gig one.
Can I use my iPod in the car with an adapter of some kind?
I'm pretty sure they make an adaptor for that. Let me look on Apple's site.
You could buy a Creative Nomad for less than the I-pod, and get a larger drive at the same time.
... yeah but I'm part of the ignorant masses and I want to look "hip," "cool" and "rad" all at the same time...

You can also get a FM transmitter if you don't have a cassette adapter. Check out the iTrip.

Go with the cassette method if you have the choice though, it sounds much better. If you live in a big city it is sometimes tough to find an open FM frequency.

Get the iTrip. It's much better than any cassette adapter because it's all wireless and all you need is an FM radio. All you do is turn it on and choose an FM frequency for the ipod to play music on. It's even on Apple.com's top 25 accessories for the iPod.

Ah well then go with the Dell DJ, nothing says hip like Dell!

Actually is there any good reason to get an ipod over a Dell DJ or Creative Nomad? I noticed that the price on both of those was quite a bit cheaper and the battery life on the DJ was longer.

The ipod, while looking cool has a very easy to understand interface while having excellent capabilitys. Using itunes, when you load music on to your IPOD, it will automatically adjust songs to better fit the volume of the others so they will sound almost the same which will cut down the amount of adjusting the volume for each song. It also has extras, like a clock, contacts, calander(which you can set dates and importaint events on it and your ipod will inform you about them with a beeping sound, and some simple games that you can play while listening to your music.

you might as well spend the extra money to get a high quality product made by a company that has earned its name. Remember this is something that you can have forever, its a good investment.

I would have goten a Dell pocket DJ, but i heard that it is a pain in the ass if you have a problem with it, you need to send it in and the customer support i guess isn't the best. I got mine from Best Buy(christmas present) and i just need to bring it in to them if i have a problem, it comes with a One-Year warrenty, but i paid an extra 40$ to get the Three-Year warrenty which will also cover the battery if it goes bad which cost about 60$ alone.

I was skeptical about the IPOD but having upgraded from a 5 year old Rio One with 32mb of space, this is like an mp3 heaven!

should have contacted me earlier in the week, i had 15 gig 3rd gens for 100 bucks... deff go with the 40 though (photo or not is up to you)

My CD collection would already fill up 40 gigs and I know a couple people who could fill up 80+ gigs. Of course, I don't need to have every single damn song on the MP3 player, so 20 GB is easily enough for whatever I need to carry around with me.

Okay so better add-on features and much better support, thanks I'll let my sister know. Its interesting that the Dell support is so bad I always found thier computer support to be quite decent.

it might have been the person that they talked to but they have had many problems and it seemed as though they kept getting bad support, it depends on who you talk to i guess.

hmmm... now the decision is photo or no photo... I like the idea of a color screen and to be able to store album art in there while the CD I'm listening to is playing but I don't think I'll ever use it to actually store photos... I'm thinking the 60g photo one will do nicely... $600 is quite a lot of money though...

Hey, if you live in NYC, just go to the Apple Store in Soho, if its still there I assume.
Thats prob the best place to buy one, unless you want free laser engraving (available on apple website) but those come from the factory in Shanghai so it takes a lot longer.
There are also a few stores in CT also, I've test-driven an iPod there. Heck, just ask anyone walking in the streets of Manhattan to check it out.

I have a 30 gig and its almost full with 6.9 days of music...I would recomend getting the 40 or 60 gig if you have a 1000+ cd's in your collection...using AAC (much better than MP3 format) and not too much larger, your space will go down fast. I am no audiophile but I do appreciate music and the more space the more music...

well...its a dollar per gig...which is quite cheap...I paid 500 for my 30 gig...not such a great deal but im living with it and I love it...and Im hoping to upgrade to the 60 soon cuz im almost out of room...I have around 600mb left

The Itunes software is an absolute motherfucking nightmare. Get ready to have 2-4 variations of the same artists name and all their Mp3s scattered between them. Unless you have flawlessly arranged ID3 tags it is the BIGGEST pain in the ass to reorganize your music. I have my collection arranged by Directory. IE: Artist->Album->Song. With each song labeled simply as its same and track number. So 95% of my Mp3s arent classified with an artist OR album. I want a player that sorts by directory! Anyone know of one?

You know that you can just keep one cd in its own playlist and have it upload track names?...Maybe its not the same for windows but when I put a cd into my mac it automatically finds all the info and I can just make a new playlist and import it and it goes like that right onto my ipod...Dont make things difficult for yourself

Just a sugggestion to those still in the market for an Ipod, I would try Staples.com They have free shipping until December 31 and it is usually overnight. That is where I got mine for Christmas.

I have like, 20+ GBs of music, so I'll need a 40GB, I just wonder when I'll finally cave-in and buy one...

40G IPOD

Here she is...screeming come and get me, or you could wait for the new picture ipod. I only have the 20G, but it is getting the job done.
boo id really like to see more people go the iriver route instead of the ipod... imo a far better player.
Iriver is fucking quality.

As for me--I've got a Nomad Zen--which I would take over an ipod anyday.
I trust Creative over Apple when it comes to audio any day. It's cheaper. And it's bigger. What more could I want.
