My B-day is a-comin' and I was thinking about asking for Xbox Live. Anyone who knows anything, please help me out. I know -nothing- about Live. We're getting Yahoo soon to take place of (ack) AOL. Tell me:

Everything I need for Live
What I need to hook up to what
How much everything is going to cost
Best place to buy all of the Live gear
How to hook up the modem to the Xbox
How to subscribe, how often I need to, and just how.

...and anything else I might need to know. Thanks.

If you have a 2 month free subscription from a Live game, use that first before using the other subscription cards.

BTW, I just signed on last Friday and I suck ass on all the games. Hopefully I'll get better.

All you need is a subscription, headset, and Live game. The headset will be about $30. And i agree with xevious, use the 2-month free first. You'll just put a Live game in the xbox and try to sign into live. It'll put the software on the box and you'll put in all your info using your controller. It pretty much guides you through it. I just did it on Friday.

You're gonna need a CC or bank account debit card to sign up. When you use the 2 month FREE trial card, you won't be charged until the end of the 2 months -- or you can just cancel.

Well the costs and how you hook everything up depends on your connection and equipment, so it'd be helpful if you gave specifics. The basic stuff you need is:

Broadband internet connection
Xbox Live subscription card (comes in the starter kit)
a credit card (I believe it can also be a parent's credit, so long as it's valid)

There's the 2 month card as mentioned...also the starter kit comes in 2 flavors: 3 months and 12 months. The 3 months one has just the headset and 3 month card, but no game. The 12 month kit has a game (Crimsons Skies), the headset, and a 12 month subscription card. You can also buy a twelve month card without the full kit for a little cheaper. The best retail price I've seen for a 12 month kit is around $55 at Costco and Sam's Club stores.

to connect you are going to have to use the microsoft mn-740 adapter, or use a direct connection with an ethernet cable. For extra advice go to xbox.com and then click on connect

Live is the best invest to your xbox.

use watever 2 months free you have left, I suggest you try a few username (GamerTAG) with a few cards. you might not like your username after awhile. then just add your 12 months to watever name u like best. make sure you cancel the others. or you'll be charge $49.99.

Get a faster internet connection. DSL or Cable.

I myself upgraded to a 3M speed cable service.

Starting up could get quite expensive. for me it was.
Cable modem $90
Router (if you want to share connection) $100
cable modem service $50-60 a month
I got a bunch of ethernet cables $30
XBOX Live starter kit $60 (got a $10 coupon for this)

some of the stuff you might already have or don't need, will run you less. but it's worth every penny.

Just to let you know, you don't really NEED a headset, but it will probably make the experience better. I too just signed up for Live, and I too suck at all the games. For me, it really wasn't that expensive to set up. I already had DSL so I just bought a router for $40 and used some ethernet cables I had lying around.

well first of all the thing that bothers me is all the people who start and talk shit for no reason. other than that its really entertaining and fun, its a really good experience. when you first get it thats probably all you will do, its really fun
