I'm I the only one looking forward to Oddworld Stranger?

I think it also has some 3rd person action/adventure mixed in too.

I definitely want to play it as it looks unique.

If it lives up to the promise they're making it out to be, then yes, I'm looking forward to it.

I'll be quite disappointed if it does suck.

Its being publised by EA, so it SUCKS!!! Just kidding actually. I think it looks awesome. If it lives up to its promise then I will probably buy it.

I am looking forward to it. I am disappointed though that the PS2 version was pulled. I wonder why!?! I'll be waiting for a price drop especially since I don't have an XBox yet. If I had an Xbox, it would likely be one of my most anticipated games for 2005.

I was hoping it would have Live support, unfortunately, haven't heard anything indicating it will have any. Still looking forward to it regardless. :)
Damn. I forgot about EA publishing this one. There goes my new years resolution...
Mine as well. Hopefully it will fare better than Munch's Oddysee did.

Damn, the PS2 one was pulled? Looks like I'll have to dust off my Crap-Box for this gem.

Of course, it's a decent-or-above FPS--I mean, what to you expect! Don't worry, you can always count on PS2 to have RPG's, Gran Turismo, mediocre online play, and countless budget games no one's heard of!

Get off your high-horse, X-box is third best for exclusives, it has the powere but that's not that important. I will not look back at tthis thread 'cause I don't want to start a flame war

I used to always make fanboyish comments like my previous post before--now I only do it if someone tries to take a crap on the Xbox. I realize it was fanboyish, but I thought it was appropriate in response to SneakyPenguin's post.

I told you I wasn't going to respond if you posted after my post.
Ooops.

Am the only one to not find this funny?
EA buys out rights to publish Odd World, to make it multiplatform and squeeze the profits. EA doesn't have enough time for the PS2 port, and Oddworld is *still* a XBox exclusive. Well, PC port down the road but I've never counted the PC against the XBox, or any system for that matter.

Fun-knee.
I've been waiting for this since Munch's Odyssey
Munch's Odyssey was my first XBOX game.......

I'm looking forward to it and I've never played an Oddworld title before. It seems like this one isn't getting much hype since Munch didn't go over too well. It's a shame because I think Oddworld is a fascinating developer and it's good that they have the balls to take a chance with something that is a little different.

I saw a preview on it on last months egm dvd looks hot alot of different ammo types all look fun the 3rd person transition to 1st person is pretty fast . U guys should check out that preview .

They really need to do an Oddworld movie or series of shorts. The character designs are just too nice to waste on just these games...

I don't think "waste" is the right word; that's rather harsh don't you think?

I'm a huge fan of the series, and think that the Oddworld team benefits even more from exceptional character designs and art direction. I too would like to see short films, etc. using these characters IN ADDITION to their use in the games.

I don't remember the name of the song and can't recall the tune at all but a few years ago in Europe there was a group that used the CG movies from Abe's Exoddus in their music video. They just put all the band members in it green screen style in place of the extra Mudokons following Abe. It was just as weird as it sounds...

I hope you're not just thinking of that god-awful "Blue" music video...
I hope you're not just thinking of that god-awful "Blue" music video...
No, I'm not. I lived in Germany at the time and these guys were even less known than Eiffel 65 (the Blue guys). Like I said, I can't remember their names at all. I doubt the song was even played stateside. I'll look into it and see if I can find out who it was...

EDIT: Found it, and it turns out there were 2 of 'em. I left in 2000 so that explains why I didn't know about the second one.

Oddworld has also co-produced two music video singles; both based upon the Oddworld Universe.

"Get Freaky" by German rap group Music Instructor was a Number 1 hit on the European charts and the single went platinum in 1999.

"Use Yur Imagination" by German rap group E-Pac featuring Jean Beauvoir was released in Europe May 2002 and featured 100% Oddworld CG in the music video.

EGM gave it straight 8.5s

funny, it seems like the ideas would be used in some other game (especially the whole bounty hunter thing, one of EGM's favorite features) but they still considered them original

Live ammo looks like fun though

could this be the game that gets me an XBox?!?

no

I thought this game looked pretty cool until I saw the live ammo thing. I'd be very happy with guns, happy with arrows, hell, I'd be satisfied with rocks! But, live ammo? I'm sorry, but that concept just seems a little too unrealistic and cheesy to me.
I'm sorry, but that concept just seems a little too unrealistic and cheesy to me.
Unrealistic...? The dude's an amalgamation of an ape, a moose, and Clint Eastwood and the countryside is populated by talking fowl. It's Oddworld. Emphasis on Odd, not on scintillating realistic ballistic simulations...

Cheesy on the other hand...well, that's a matter of personal taste so no point in arguing with that. I'm not attempting to defend a game I have yet to play, I just don't think you should expect anything realistic out of an Oddworld game.

Of course, it's a matter of my personal opinion. When I pick up a shooter, I usually want it to be fairly realistic. BTW, I enjoyed Munch's Oddysey for Xbox.

I'm curious, although I've never played any Oddworld game.

Just saw a thing on G$TV.com, Icons, which was all about the Oddworld franchise.

How is Munch's game for XBOX? Is it a good platformer? I'm looking for some good games my fiance can enjoy (she likes Crash Bandicoot type games)

It's pretty good. Not great, though. Unlike Crash games these have an emphasis on puzzle solving. Goes something like this:

Arrive in new area.
Explore.
You can see where you need to go but a gate won't open until you've freed X Number of slaves.
Possess guards to pull switches or kill other guards and free slaves.
Kill yourself in a gruesome suicide (as the guard, remember)
Return to your body and escort all the freed slaves to where they need to stand to open the gate.
Watch gorgeous CG cutscene.
Repeat.

Also sprinkled throughout are a few places where you make a mad dash filled with dangerous leaps of faith over and under pits, traps, and all manner of freakish beasts in order to get somewhere before a gate closes.
The margin for error is somewhat larger in the 3D game. Some of those levels on the 2D games were brutal. Physically, you're pretty helpless in these games. Stranger's gonna be a bit of a change in that department.

copied from anotehr forum:
So far I am impressed. No widescreen, and I doubt 480P, but my tv says it no matter what, even on games I know don't do it so I can't verify. Controls are solid, graphics servicable as long as you don't look too close. The live ammo is both nice(animations, methods) and annoying(hunting them down, not just looking in crates). Fought the first bounty, took a few tries. I do like the health system - you can regen at any time, as long as you have stamina. Press Y and he shakes it off, knives flying out of his back, trading stamina for health.

I do dislike the name change, calling him Stranger rather than Steefe.

Take bounty, hunt bounty. Go to a situation, beat up and capture henchman, then eventually the bounty shows up, up pops a set of bars for them, go to town shooting them and eventually capture. Click right-stick to switch from 1st/3rd person, can only shoot in 1st. Jumping is a bit floaty, but not too bad. The Oddworld universe is in full swing in this game, if you enjoyed the previous ones you should enjoy this as well. Even if you don't like the idea of shooting, the various kinds of bait make it a worthy addition to the gameplay.
