Age means nothing.

I just bought a DS and I'll be 30 in Feb. At work our lunch breaks consist of me, 2 mid 30's, and a 43 yr old coworker doing mario kart and other games. Its alot of fun.

QFT.

The OP's question was answered. The answer being YES. I thnk this thread can be done now.
I thought there may be too many "kiddie" games and I'd get bored of it quick. And I know no one that owns one who's around my age, so I had to ask you guys. I love my old nes and sega genesis so I thought I'd like the ds lite. The psp is kind of crappy, just not as "cool" as the ds.
I'm 26 and I have one. I don't buy a lot of the games for the DS due to being "kiddie" in nature but there's a decent amount of good titles for adults. The kiddie games are probably fun too probably if you can get past the graphics and wacky conversations.

Advance Wars is one game that looks kiddie and has wacko dialog but the gameplay is really good and very challenging for me.

I think you could easily find 20-30 games that you'll like. If you are one of those people that buy a ton of games for a system, you might feel restricted but I generally only by 20 or less per console anyway so the selection is fine for me.
Probably not. Unless you fly a lot or take a train to work.
Or have to sit there and watch the TV shows your wife picks.

I'd love to know what "Kiddie" games and graphics are. I've owned several dozen DS games and have yet to see any that are "kiddie".

Is that supposed to be a euphemism for "game without blood pouring out of every orifice and using more than 3 colors to draw the backgrounds?"

no, blood pouring out has nothing to do with whether or not a game has "kiddie" graphics. I'm sure you knew that though.

Examples of kiddie games or games with kiddie graphics.

Kirby Squeak Squad
Barbie in the 12 dancing princesses
Strawberry Shortcake: Strawberryland games
Children of Mana
Magical Starsign
Animal Crossing
etc

Now I'm not saying these games aren't fun but in my opinion the graphics are definitely "kiddie" in nature. I haven't played any of these games and I may be missing out by being prejudgmental but that's what people mean by kiddie games/graphics.

Well that's retarded and arbitrary. Only two of those are probably "Kiddie". Kirby, Children of Mana, Magical Starsign, and Animal Crossing are certainlly not "kiddie".

They may not be kiddy in gameplay but have you seen the graphics?

People are definitely entitled to have an opinion on a game's graphics. Your attacks on their opinion are more "retarded".

Yeah, most of the games mentioned have fantastic graphics.

No, insulting games and by extension the people who play them because they don't meet some arbitrary standard you have is pretty messed up. I have every right to call them on it, as I hope others will.
Yeah, most of the games mentioned have fantastic graphics.
You fail to see the point. I never said the graphics were bad, I said they were kiddy. Reading comprehension on your part would be nice ;). You are entitled to your opinion on the graphic style though and I won't attack you for it.

Where did I insult the game or the people that play them? I think I clearly stated that the games mentioned might be fun.

Games have to meet everyone's personal arbitrary standard for them to buy them. I'm not telling others what games they should want to buy. I'm giving my personal opinion on a group of games that have graphics that I don't like.

"Kiddy" doesn't mean anything. It's a general attack on the game and the people who play it. It's also arbitrary. I have no idea what games you would deem not "kiddy".

You did right in this same post!

So say you don't like the graphics and explain why, don't insult the games and the people who play them.

Not kiddy would be games like Need For Speed, Tetris, Metroid, Clubhouse Games, etc.

I enjoy some games that I would say have "kiddy" graphics. I like Mario, Zelda and to some extent Advance Wars. Mario and Zelda are some of the best series ever but to say the graphics are geared towards adults would be lying. It's not insulting to say it like it is.

I never insulted the people that play them. I insulted you a few times for your comprehension problems but that's it. Unless I grew up with the series (aka Mario, Zelda), I tend to not like "kiddy" graphics. That's not insulting IMO as the developers were likely aiming toward kids/children. It's not like I'm saying it's ugly or the game is awful. It's just not my cup a tea. Given that it's a guy near my age that is asking the question, I think my opinion on the matter might be pertinent.

This is my last reply to you so that we don't hijack the thread.

That has no meaning whatsoever. I'm not tuned in to your arbitrary definition of "kiddy".

Wow. Now Mario, Zelda, and Advance Wars are "Kiddy" Seriously, just stop insulting us.
kiddy graphics? how about colorful cartoonish like graphics?
that would probably be a more politically correct way of saying it. I think I'll go with that descriptor from now on. thanks.
kiddy graphics? how about colorful cartoonish like graphics?
Yeah, "cartoony" or "animated" are far better descriptors. While most animated material is indeed aimed at kids, to describe the style as "kiddy" is to imply that they're only sutiable for kids, which is silly, I think. For me, some of those most "kiddy" games out there (Yoshi's Island, Wind Waker) have the best art direction of most games ever made.

But then again, yesterday I watched the copy of The Little Mermaid my wife got me for Christmas and enjoyed it about as much as I did when I first saw it as a kid So maybe my perspective is skewed? ;)

When I was your age, I could be convinced that Nintendo was "kiddy." And that being "kiddy" was a negative. Today I am older than you and have been having a blast with my DS Lite. NSMB and Mario Kart are the only games I have played in about a month even though I own a nice computer and have a bunch of games for it. To me games are about having fun and being challenged. I highly recommend giving the DS a try.
