You know the game- there may be some flaws with it. It might be too ugly, hard to control, repetitive, too complex or simplistic, but you love it like a puppy.

Two games I'm playing fall into this category:

- Dungeon Maker: Hunting Ground(PSP). Puns in the title are usually a bad sign. Not so with this one. In this game you slowly build a grid-based dungeon to lure monsters in. Then you sweep the dungeon, killing the monsters and keeping the loot they leave behind. Add leveling up your character, building a beastiary, and developing recipes, and this game is more addictive than pokemon. The graphics are minimal and often rely heavily on text conversations, but that adds to the enjoyment.

- Naruto 3: Ultimate Ninja(PS2). While I heard the 360 version was good, this game really surprised me. I am not an anime nor have the slightest interest in Naruto. I saw the cartoon once, and was immediately turned off by the voices. But this game is centered on a fighting game than IMO is better than Super Smash Bros. Brawl. 40 Character, minigames, and a great exploratory mode that feels like Spiderman should (jumping through the air, clinging to walls). I can't believe I'm playing this instead of GTA4.

Freecell. Nobody understands why I like it, including me.

Edit: I think I know why, I always play it when I'm procrastinating. I should be working on my term paper but instead I got a new high score. 33 consecutive wins!

All the recent games in the Need For Speed series (minus ProStreet).

They're so dumb. SO dumb. Super-cheesy FMV cutscenes featuring live actors? Check. References to "street cred/rep," "rides" (cars), and "bank" (money)? Check. Horribly inaccurate physics that make all cars handle roughly the same? Check. Rap music in the background? Check. Characters with nicknames that might sound cool to 13 year old boys? Check.

And yet I love them.

Puzzle Quest (DS).

Really just Bejeweled with a terrible story tacked on. Not all that much strategy compared to puzzle games and way to much luck involved given that it's bejeweled (i..e just shit luck where skulls fall down from the top where you can see what's coming etc.

But that said, I've played it a ton since getting it off of Goozex and really enjoying it.

Spider-Man 2 (PS2)

Played it past beating Doc Ock - never cheated or anything. Even had fun doing the same repetitive civilian missions repeatedly to save up the hundreds of thousands of 'hero points' it took to buy every single upgrade. And I still boot it up at least once a month to swing around.

Earth Defense Force 2017(360)

It is a Japanese ps2 port which is very repetitive, can slow down when combat gets intense, has no online co-op, bad AI, and horrible story and NPC elements. Co-op on the same xbox is some how very addicting and fun, and trying to get all the weapons becomes addictive, (have beaten the game twice).

That game is badass. Anyone who says otherwise sucks.

Threads of Fate. I'm surprised it even qualifies as a game, it's so friggin easy. And EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER is the epitome of every stereotype they could possibly dig up. It's a miracle any of them even have names; they should be called Broody Amnesiac, Saucy Brat, Bitch Rival, Stupid Sidekick, Informant, Troublemaker, Oaf Brothers, Key, Minion, and Boss.

But I've played the game through at least 5 times.

Conan
I like it, but the graphics are POOR for a next gen game, and the game is repetitive as hell. But it is still sweet to watch a guy fly in half from a sword swing.

'24: The Game' for PS2. I've never seen a single episode of the show, and the game controls like a drunk parapalegic on ice skates, but it just TRIES SO HARD. it's fun as hell.

also, big ups to Puzzle Quest and Earth Defense Force 2017 as well. Both are a hellva lot of fun.

and 'Cars' for the 360.

This.
Me and my wife beat it together on Co-Op.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

I've mentioned this a few times. Really, an average game at the time it came out (at best), and I just played it last year for the first time. It's a rip off of the 3D Zelda games at its best. Not only that, but it really doesn't follow the plot of the movie nor the book, making up scenarios at points that really aren't that great.

That being said, I enjoyed every minute of the game, enough that its on my list of games that will likely be replayed this year.

I enjoyed Harry potter: The Philosophers Stone on the GBC. It was basically a Fianl Fantasy clone with one character and minigames

I dont even like harry potter

Clocktower 3. Its not scary, has horrible voice acting, pretty mediocre graphics, bad camera, bad controls, senseless story, and yet I still love it.

I've been playing CrossworDS like it's my job for the last week. It ended my nearly 2-week GTA4 fixation.

It's not really a bad game...it's just, well, a bunch of fucking crossword puzzles.

Gun (360)

I got it thorugh Goozex and I love it. I find the controls sloppy sometimes and hit entirely the wrong buttons other times, plus riding the left shouler button to speed up my horse hurts my little girl hands, but I love it. I'm actually excited to play it I think because it has brighter colors and all of the sandbox-y goodness. It's just a fun game.

I felt nostalgic earlier this week and started playing Syphon Filter. The aiming sucks and it feels clunky compared to todays shooter but it is still really fun.

Actually I think I would have to agree with this. This is the main game (or game series) I could think of where this rings true for me.

from last gen:

Urban Chaos: Riot Response
Psi-ops

Zookeeper DS

I also like Surf's Up for 360. It's a pleasant mix of kart racing and Tony Hawk-ish moves
Oh Crackdown, why are you so fun?
There's nothing wrong with Crackdown; it's just a great all-around game.

Except for Vampire Rain, there's some fine games here. I saw Chulip for $15 and was thinking about picking it up.

Crackdown was the first 360 game that I beat, and stuck around to try and get all the achievements. I just loved getting in the SUV and hitting jumps.

Before that I was stuck on NFL2K5, and not just because of online play. I played 5 full seasons, including preseason, because it is the only way the Bengals will get the trophy.

Call of Juarez was a really fun game. I came into it with low expectations and came out liking it alot.

XIII was also a good game.

I remember XIII. That was a good game, but it ended on a cliffhanger and will never receive a sequel.

Sucks.

Total Overdose on the PS2. Completely cheezy and ridiculous, but the fact that it didn't take itself seriously and the over the top gameplay made it super enjoyable.

I just finished getting 100% in GTA IV and I was telling my friend that as much as I loved and enjoyed the game, I didn't think it was the "best game ever" (as its aggregate scores currently indicate). To which my friend then asked:

"Well, what do you think the best game of this generation is then?"

After a short pause, the only game bouncing around in my head was Earth Defense Force 2017.

I know it's wrong, but god damnit - that game is too friggin' fun.

Trackmania Nations Forever (PC) is my current addiction...

It's a crazy arcade style racing game with jumps, loops, and slick level design. It comes installed with over 60 tracks... but you can download user created tracks, or make your own. I've spent hours on online multiplayer and not seen the same track twice.

It may not have the best graphics, but it is very fun, and its free. There is another version called Trackmania United Forever that does cost money, but Nations does not.

i just beat blew $$$on which was a guilty pleasure but i regularly play edf. it's very addictive and hilariously cheesy. i happen to think the run and gun gameplay combined with epic bugs/weapons works out great. does it remind anybody else of phantasy star online episode 2? i mean, its not an rpg but the way the weapons are acquired and how your raise your hp. plus the co-op makes it more fun (if you can actually find somebody to play it with you). im glad im not the only person who likes this game.

I picked up Viking: Battle for Asgard(360) at Eb for $30; expecting major problems with the framerate

I beat the first major area, and except for a very small bit of slowdown during a major battle; there's no framerate hitches at all. I'm OCD about framerates, too.

This game is beautiful; it reminds me a lot of a next-gen Fable. Sure the combat is a bit simplistic, but it's intense. It seems like a easier Ninja Gaiden RPG.

People on the line about this game might want to check it out.
Urban Reign
I had a blast with Urban Reign. After I rolled through story mode (fuck you, Golem!!), my friend and I played vs. mode, him and me vs. 2 computers. That game is so much fun when you're dealing out tag team grapples all day, and coming up with juggle combos that end in air grapples. It's tons of fun.
