I'm probably be trading in my xbox soon. is there a way to transfer files?

nope...just buy action replay...its cheaper and then you can put em on your computer and keep em on there as back up...and you could buy the 16mb action replay so you can put your KOTOR...8mb wont hold em

Since you are probably planning to trade your Xbox in as credit for the Halo Xbox, could you explain to me why?

I don't understand what is so great about the new color... it seems just like in that Simpson episode where Smithers and the young girls run to go buy the Malibu Stacy doll with "a new hat".

If the saved files are so important than don't trade in your xbox to get the green one.

Yeah if anyone knows a way to transfer save files from one Xbox to another I would like to know also . My Xbox is skipping really bad and I know it's just a matter of time before I have to buy a new one. Damn you Microsoft !
sj41...i told him the only way to do it...STOP!
I had already written it before. SORRY ABOUT THAT.

i think i might get the xbox just because it reminds me of that Lisa vs malibu stacy episode. thats great when the little girl gets a malibu stacy that says quotes from the spider man action toy.

About a year and a half .

About a year and a half .
I've had mine for 2 years and it works perfectly.

My first one died after about 1 1/2 years of use, one day i turned it on, got a DDE, and it never turned on again. After that I had to buy a new one, and sold the old one for $50 to a guy who thought he could get it fixed, he still hasn't got it fixed.

The best way to transfer files between XB's is the Action Replay or a memory unit; however, some games, as some of you may not know, do not support the memory units (SW: KotOR and Ninja Gaiden for example). And as for the 'Malibu Stacy with the new hat' thing, limited edition consoles don't come out very often. I didn't actually care how many LE XB's were released, they just look friggin cool. I mean, when the average game enthusiast looks at websites and sees all of the cool stuff in the Asian market (Tiny Bee controllers for FF X-2, Metal Gear Solid/Gundam LE Gamecubes, White Panzer Dragoon XB's, PS2's that are readily available in every color under the sun, etc.), he/she is usually like 'man, I wish they had cool crap like that here in the states, without having to pay 500% more to import it here.' Sure, in the end they're all the same console underneath, but it's the closest in a while the US has had something like that. Sony won't even consider selling different color PS2's here right now (without having insane prices on their website), even though there is a good chance they'll sell a boatload even during the current PS2 sales slump. LE consoles are a good way to move hardware when you need to make money during the latter half of a system's lifespan.
A lot of gamers eat this kind of stuff up. So to the ones that think it's silly, then don't waste your time worrying about it. Let the ones who want the LE systems do that.
open your xbox and swap the hard drives, it's not that hard.
That defeats the purpose of trading one in. Most game stores will not accept 'opened' XBoxes, or if they do, they give less.

That and it immediately voids the warranty should something else happen. Plus, it is not that easy for everyone...I'd be lucky to know what the hard drvie looked like.
Unless you do the hard drive swap, you're gonna lose your XB Live info. Be prepared to buy another subscription card.
You can transfer xbox live on a memory card.

Well fuck, you're right. I just checked Xbox.com to check. Thing is, you then have to use the Account Recovery option to invalidate the old account and transfer it to the new Xbox. Apparently you can do this as many times as you want. You could even invalidate the new Xbox account and put it back on the old one.

Bingo.
Thats a real real real bad thing to do. Every xbox has its harddrive firmware locked to only run on that same xbox. You can't even unlock them on a pc. There is even a website with a reward for the first guy who can figure out how to unlock an original hard drive without the original xbox it came from.

here's a question...does anyone know of a place where there is a list of all the games that won't let you transfer files. KotOR, Ninja Gaiden and DoA 3 have been mentioned, but I'm very curious as to what the others are.

thanks...doesn't look like it is that many games. Mainly just KotOR, Burnout 2, and the Tecmo games from what I can tell

Buy a memory card from a store, use it, return within 30-day period and get your money back. Is it that difficult people?

My box is getting a disc read error, and I'm afraid it is about to die.

Ok, that at least makes sense.
I bet we'll get swamped by a bunch of people who want to trade in thier SPs to pick up the NES limited edition one, however... which is the exact same deal as with the Halo Xbox.

Your lack of scruples never ceases to amaze me.

I dare you to try that anywhere else besides Best Buy or Wal-Mart.

My SP is getting scratched up. For $50 to get a new SP AND for it to look like a NES, i'll do it.

Works at Target, Radio Shack (if they have them), circuit city, etc...wherever sells a memory card and has a 30-day warranty. There's no crime in thinking you needed a memory card when you bought your xbox only to realize later that it saves to the HDD, "Hi, can I please return this, I realized I don't need this", anyone will take it back. Maybe if only a dick like Jsweeny was behind the counter, a sad, sad and pathetic employee making $6/hour who thinks it will get him some kinda raise if he refuses your return, then you might be S.O.L. but just try a different employee, most are cool. I can just see Jsweeny being one of the dickhead employees who will give you a hard time for no reason, even though he's making minimum wage, loser.

Who is Jsweeny?

if your xbox is a first gen, or is crapping out, getting it replaced with the halo trade-in is a pretty good way to go. costs about the same as refurbishing it, and yes...its green
